Returning Player - Wants simple but effective character.
So the player returning has been out of the RPG scene for almost a year now. She doesn't want a lot of bookkeeping anymore. She has played Wizard, Psion, Magus, and Warpriest. So needless to say she's done with remembering all that clerical work.
I was leaning towards two-handed weapon fighter but that was just what came to mind first.
Don't worry about tiers or anything like that. I'm the DM, no matter what she picks, there will be a place for her.
She really wants to just deal damage and go about her day.Path of the Nefarious: A Way of the Wicked Journal.

Re: Returning Player - Wants simple but effective character.
From the existing lineup it seems like this is a player who likes choices during encounters. So, without bookkeeping, it screams Rogue.

Re: Returning Player - Wants simple but effective character.
I mean, 2h wepon fighters are good. I love playing the Big Bad Fighter in most games, and in my regular groups my teams love it because I'm very, very good at making myself seem like the biggest threat in the room.
Alternatively, the Warrior of Sacred Light Paladin is a blast, and with only a little op-fu, they can reliably heal themselves through a days adventuring. Possibly a couple of heals to a party member.

Re: Returning Player - Wants simple but effective character.
I'd have to agree, Rogue, or even Ninja, depending on how much she's willing to keep track of. Ninja only adds Ki points to keep track of, and that's just a number that goes down, no choosing spells or the like.
Otherwise a Two-handed Fighter seems like the way to go. I'd stay away from barbarian, as rage points can be a pain to keep track of and optimize."And if you don't, the consequences will be dire!"
"What? They'll have three extra hit dice and a rend attack?"

Re: Returning Player - Wants simple but effective character.
You can't go more simple than a Fighter :p
If you do go with a Two-Handed Fighter, the "Two-Handed Fighter" archetype is Brutal in dealing damage.
I 've recently looked into the archetype and an interesting Sword was brought to my attention that I think is worth considering for the Two-Handed Fighter:
Nodachi
Two-Handed Martial Weapon (not exotic)
Damage: 1d10
Crit: 18-20/x2
Type: S or P
Special: Brace
It's damage is one step down from the class Greatsword (1d10 instead of 2d6), but its crit range is significantly higher (18-20 interested of 20), making it perfect for going down the critical feat treeLast edited by DedWards; 2016-10-26 at 08:43 AM.

Unchained rogue, unchained monk, or an optimized fighter. Alternatively, unchained barbarian or spellless archetypes for paladin and ranger, but they carry a light accounting burden.

Kineticist has some accounting around daily burn points and how they affect HP score, but has actual utility powers and a wide range of possible builds.

Does the mail man build still exist by chance?

Re: Returning Player - Wants simple but effective character.
Could try a Chained Synthesist Summoner with (prepare mostly heal eidolon spells to reduce options and make it simple).
Or
Sanctified slayer (Inquisitor) gains Sneak Attk by 4th (1d6, then 1d6 per 3 lv thus 7th, 10th, etc), taking Crocodile domain gain sneak attack by 6 (1d6). VMC Rogue adds +1d6 at 7.
So you focus on sneak attack so you don't have to too high of casting stat since high physical stats help you sneak attack.
So you gains 4d6 Sneak attack by 7th.
You are basically Rogue++.

Re: Returning Player - Wants simple but effective character.
Can you then also use it to qualify for the required feats? Cool.

Re: Returning Player - Wants simple but effective character.
I seems like your player likes casting but doesn't want to deal with spell slots.
For this I suggest a Drow Magic rogue. Take all the drow magic feats by 5th level and just be a skill based rogue with VERY useful at will spells like effects from a limited but VERY useful list.

Re: Returning Player - Wants simple but effective character.
If you can, I strongly suggest swapping the stats for DEX and CHA around. DEX is used for initiative, ranged attacks (you will be getting a Mighty {STR bonus} Composite Longbow), and Armor Training increases the DEX to AC allowed by Armor. Also, some Feats require DEX.
Just put the stats in a point buy calculator. 45 point to get these numbers, so she probably rolled for them.Last edited by DedWards; 2016-10-27 at 09:09 AM.

Re: Returning Player - Wants simple but effective character.
And yes, I meant two handed fighter haha.
Sort of.
This is for way of the wicked. So you get one 18 one 8. then you roll 1d10 + 7 and those results are put in the order you get them for the standard char sheet.
So she chose 18 st, 8 Dex,
and put the others in order as they appear con, int, wis, cha.
She can't switch it, dex is the 8 she chose. She plans on using leadership to be part of the evil organization which is why she wanted cha. She didn't want low HP and didn't want her will saves to take a hit. She seems meh about dex and int for this character.Last edited by killem2; 2016-10-27 at 09:37 AM.

Re: Returning Player - Wants simple but effective character.
INT and CHA are the two main dump stats for a Fighter. There's a reason fighters are called BSF (Big Stupid Fighter).
STR and CON are must haves for any melee character, unless you go with finesse, then it's DEX and CON.
I run fighters a lot of the time. While the will saves are bad, it's easily buffered by traits (Indomitable Faith, etc) and a few Feats (Iron Will, etc). I've currently got a two weapon fighter (dual wielding Sawtooth Sabres) in Way of the Wicked and she has the High Treason and Indomitable Faith traits (+1 Will each). If memory serves, by the end of the first book, you get awarded with another trait, and my Fighter took the one that grants +2 Will vs Charm and Compulsion. Also, having an Ally that can cast Protection from Good helps a lot.Last edited by DedWards; 2016-10-27 at 09:57 AM.
