Re: El Goonish Shive
Yes, it was.
Okay, last few comics:
Noah taking notes on MLP was hilarious. XD
While NP was kinda obvious, it's good that he addressed it in the comic, especially in this kinda way.
On the latest comic: huh. While I'm not too sure about losing interest in girls, it kinda makes sense, since the spell actually does warp his... her... GAH.
In any case, brain-warping, might account in bigger change in preferences, SO THERE.

It's sad, because it can't be doing good things for her self esteem but it's not that he doesn't like her just that he gets obsessive.

Re: El Goonish Shive
And adorable, don't forget adorable.
This double-date sounds like it will be a very fun story and a good opportunity to see how silly this comic can get.

Re: El Goonish Shive
I finally caught up with the current update, back from... oh, I must have stopped reading somewhere around the end of Sisters II. The question is if I can enjoy the comic as much in dribble form as I do in flood mode. I must say, though, a weekday update schedule is likely to make it far more readable.
Seeing as Tedd has his glasses off, I'm wondering if Gary might not think there are four lesbians here.
Also, is it just me, or is Gary a nerd-name (NSFW)?Quoth the raven, "Polly wants a cracker."

Re: El Goonish Shive
Having digested what I've read a bit, here's a short summary, because I like making those.
I seem to recall that much of the reason I stopped reading EGS at an earlier point was the way the action-type stories took screen-time away from the dramedy-type story (also probably that I somehow lost my place in the archives and cba to find it again, but that's not the point). Reading through the later pages, I find that this tendency remains, however to a much lesser extent. The mix feels more natural now, with action sequences inherently more associated with the daily lives of the main characters (particularly Pandora's plot pertaining persecuting paranormals (yes!)). The daily updates, of course, also help increase the flow, making the comic move faster through the art-heavy action scenes.
It seems Dan has grown better at circumventing needless word masses, as well, particularly using visual flashbacks and the decidedly medium-savvy way of offering reference links below the comics. That might be the thing that impressed me the most in his development, actually; he knew he had a problem, and he solved it in a very neat manner that probably ended up giving him less work overall.
EGS was always about teen drama, first and foremost, and I like how it still feels decidedly teeny (not meant in a bad way). The main characters are still discovering themselves, still having to relate to a family with real power over them, still restrained in a way that makes the story more interesting. On top of that, the humour is witty and fresh.
Favourite drama moment: Susan when she "got her eyes". Ouch.
Favourite new character: George (I'd say Raven, but he was in before I dropped it). Love the character both at face value (the Comic Book Guy) and for the hidden depths he's hinted at having. I for one can't wait for further development of him.
Least favourite new character: Cheerleadra. Given the nature of the comic, it might be a silly complaint, but I am not a big fan of shape-shifting as a whole. Nor do I much like the concept of superheroes, which I find silly. The mix is... well, I'm not a fan. My problem, I guess, is the notion that Elliot, as the strongest student of a martial arts style effectively based on unlocking one's own power, suddenly gets his biggest power boost from becoming something else, particularly if that form is something that he himself isn't totally okay with. Luckily, I've seen little evidence so far that Cheerleadra is inherently beefier than Elliot, so I'm kind of hoping she'll turn out to mostly boost soak and offer flying and a disguise (that said, I do believe she's just as strong as Elliot ever was; any arguments that she would be weaker than thatseems entirely unfounded).
Lastly, Jeremy/Demonic Duck OTP. That is all.Last edited by Weimann; 2011-08-29 at 07:03 PM.

Re: El Goonish Shive
I used to do like Tedd, but I'm getting to be more and more of a menu reader. It feels like there might be something really obvious you're missing out on otherwise.
I'd think Grace would encourage Tedd to try something new. Variation and all.Quoth the raven, "Polly wants a cracker."

Re: El Goonish Shive
Or, at least, it is about to stop being so.
Just have to make sure Tedd doesn't get obsessed with not being obsessed. "Oh crap, I have to try at least three new things today or I'll be totally hooked!"
I have tried to comment on the recent pages, but damn is it hard. I just find that I've not really anything to say; the characters kind of analyse themselves. It's interesting to note how different writing styles can be between comics.Quoth the raven, "Polly wants a cracker."

Re: El Goonish Shive
New strip up.
SpoilerYa know I had always thought that, ever since the Painted Black arc, all the main characters considered each other friends. The realization that this was not true (which actually happened earlier in this arc) has taken me back a bit.Last edited by Lizard Lord; 2011-09-16 at 01:47 AM.

Well there is also this strip. Which is actually where I first realized. On an unrelated note, there is a new strip.

Re: El Goonish Shive
Sorry. It's late, and I forgot to spoiler my post since I'm not often in a situation where I have to. Everybody else seems to get the opportunity to comment before me, and by the time I get there, people aren't spoilering things anymore anyway.

Re: El Goonish Shive
The characters have been defined as not all being friends since at least the story arc leading up to Grace's birthday party.
Justin, specifically, didn't seem particularly close to anyone who wasn't already his friend. In fact, Painted Black made him even more reluctant to hang out with Grace.
