Re: When you play the Game of Thrones...
Cersei and her children:
SpoilerI'm sure Cersei loved Joffrey, and that continues to be seen long after his death. However, Tommen is more questionable, it seems like she wants to be loved by him, but doesn't love him. Myrcella is effectively an unknown for the moment.I would really like to see a game made by Obryn, Kurald Galain, and Knaight from these forums.
I'm not joking one bit. I would buy the hell out of that. -- ChubbyRain

Re: When you play the Game of Thrones...
SpoilerIn fairness, most of what we know about R'hllor comes from the mouth of Melisandre of Asshai, which seems to be basically the land of witches. It could be that the actual force/entity behind her and Thoros' powers is less scary dogmatic skewed black-and-white than she leads us to believe.
The Others, though? I see very little possibility that they're not evil, or at least that they're going to end up allying with Men; while there's stories about how evil the Others are too, we also have direct textual evidence of them seemingly treating humans as pests to be played with and snuffed out at leisure.

Re: When you play the Game of Thrones...
I concur:
Spoiler
I get the feeling that Melissandre is interpreting scripture in a very particular way--I mean, if all R'Hollor followers understood their prophecies to center on Stannis, then why is she the sole red priest backing him...in particular, if guarding the wall and fighting the Others really is their Armageddon scenario then why isn't she reaching out to the other priests/mages of her faith.
My standing theory is that she's either a heretic or some sort of sect-of-one, and that her degree of certainty regarding Stannis, et cetera, is something she's arrived at on her own. I have this creepy feeling that if anyone is going to blow the Horn of Winter, it'll be her...after all, she can't have her Ragnarok-style final battle if one side is blockaded by the Wall.
As to the Others, even on a cynical scale of good/evil they're not looking too good. I'll be curious to see what their motives are...not that they'll turn out to be noble or misunderstood, but rather what's driving them. Part of me wonders if Westeros's climate cycle is somehow influenced by them (they seem synonymous with cold and winter)--actually, has there been an indication that other landmasses have the same cycle? I also wonder if they're somehow related to the Children of the Forest (or are the Children of the Forest), particularly after Coldhands turned up.
That looks like the greatest "Where's Waldo?" picture ever. It's every bit as cluttered as one, anyway.
I particularly like the bottom, which Aerys, Pycelle, Varys, and the Kingsguard.Last edited by Yanagi; 2011-07-11 at 03:59 AM.

Re: When you play the Game of Thrones...
Well, looks like my copy of Dance might actually be on the doorstep tonight (since it's shipping from a distribution point only about 75 miles from my door). Now the terrible question . . . do I pick it up immediately, or continue with my re-read of the next couple books (currently 40% through Clash).
Decisions decisions . . .It doesn't matter what game you're playing as long as you're having fun.

Re: When you play the Game of Thrones...
Okay, it's almost out.
From this stage on I am in total message board, facebook, etc. lockdown until I have finished the book at least once. I will not have another Harry Potter 6/7 or Red Dead Redemption or pretty much any old movie
