Default One Piece: Grand Line 3.5

So... yeah. I recently went on an archive binge on Darths & Droids. If you know what I'm talkin about, then you probably know what's coming up. I decided to give it a shot and here's what I came up with. It's basically One Piece if it were a roleplaying campaign. :p

Comic Sans was the third thing to arrive after Pandora opened her box.

At any rate, I like the fact that you've captured the feel of the banter nicely, and I think this could really be something you can carry all the way, it's just the font needs to be something less horrid.

Heh, think that's bad? I considered using Times New Roman for my font. ^_^

So, what type of font would you recommend?

    Try Gosmick Sans.

Generally, if you're making a comic, stick to the sans serif fonts, and especially stay away from purely decorative fonts like Copperplate Gothic, especially bold. I die inside whenever I see it being used to write an entire paragraph, and it hurts the eyes of most people.

Of course, it's entirely up to you.

Mhm, if you can keep this going that should work nicely.

(Also, as far as fonts go, Webletterer BB works nicely too. And it makes capitalization obsolete.)

It seems you are creating them in MS Paint. I would strongly advise you then to save them as PNG. Paint makes awful JPG full of artifacts. Look at the word balloons and narration boxes.

If you're actually using the GIMP or Photoshop, crank the JPG quality up a few notches when saving.

I once played a campaign set in the One Piece world.

Gods, my character was overpowered. He was a logia type who had eaten the Steam fruit.

On the whole, looks like it could be interesting. You've got a long haul ahead of you though. About 1,200 episodes worth. I salute you if you can manage to keep it up.

If you're using photoshop, it should be easy enough to pick a nice "blam"-y font and apply some layer modifiers to make it look more comic-y, then play around with the shape for awhile.

Try for example, all-caps impact with 3-point stroke, then change the bent of the text.

Looking good, man. I mean, I might enjoy it more if I actually like new what One Piece was about, but, you know. It's pretty funny, and the banter is well-constructed.

Do yourself a favor and read this!

    Maybe not all at once.

Understand this though, the quality of some of the early scans/translations suck. But it gets better. A lot better.

If your still reading up to the 50's, and your not liking it, you probably never will though. Odds are you'll be into it before that though.

It's one of the most successful manga's in the world for a reason, after all.

I probably shouldn't, yeah. The last time I binged a manga, I was having trouble reading regular books for a while, since I'd gotten used to reading from right to left.

@Sarco Phage - Well... there's the anime... just don't watch the 4Kids version. For dubbed versions, track down the ones done by Funimation. :p

I totally love comics of this type, even if they aren't the most original, they sometimes can feel like they have the most heart to them. Totally reading.

There is nothing wrong with Comic Sans. Some people are just too full of th... err I mean concerned with the finer points of comic writing and remaining nongeneric.

"I mean hey, it has 'comic' in the title, so we obviously can't use that because that's for ordinary comics, not mine. Mine is way different from all the others."

Seriously, if it's a legible non-eyesore, it's good enough. And if Comic Sans is an "eyesore" to you then you probably need a serious dose of Perspective Pills.

Times New Roman has the word "Times" in it. Is it the font used by the New York Times?

The main problem with Comic Sans is that it immediately sends a lot of people into frothing rage, and may cause them to disregard the content - and that in itself is a bad property. It's more politic to choose an obscure but still comic-y font rather than one that's been plastered in the most inappropriate places since 1996.
