With Perry's attacks going wild, the crew tries to hold the beast at bay as it fights to escape.

One of the harpoon's lines snaps as the beaver rips it free. The final sailor takes out a long pike and begins stabbing at the beaver's throat, leaving bloody holes through which its lifeblood pours forth like dark red wine.

The beaver's strength begins to wane as the captain tugs on his line to pull it in closer to the boat and try to better control it.

The detective grapples the creature, and goes to smash with his foot if he succeeds. He doesn't want the creature to get away!

Perry fails to grab hold of the wildly thrashing beaver, the water and blood across its oiled fur making it incredibly slick.

The next sailor releases his hold on the line, giving the beaver more slack to fight, but grabs a polearm as well, trying to end the creature's life.

Perry swears and fires off another flurry of attacks. He has to get this thing down.

The beaver fails to escape. The next sailor manages to hold the beaver tight as the last continues to stab at it in the same spot, obviously trying to not damage the fur but failing to do any more damage.

The captain stabs in the same place at the beaver's throat, hitting the artery there. With one last great shudder, the beaver dies as Perry's blows drive the remaining life from its broken a battered form.

Perry chuckles. "Not bad, lads. What now?" He looked around, watching for any other beavers coming. Spot (1d20+17)[32]

[Jeriah]

"Now, we haul this thing in to be skinned, sell the fur, and dispose of the meat. I don't think we've ever hauled one in quite this large before..."

[Lokio]

"Roger that. Would you like me to cover you, or help haul it?"

[Jeriah]

"Yes, to both. The current should pull us downriver, making this a hell of a lot easier."

[Lokio]

Perry does both, keeping an eye on the water as they move.

[Jeriah]

They make it back to the causeway unmolested.

The "bridge" across the water doesn't let boats pass, so they're going to have to untie it, haul it across somehow, and take it further downstream to the slaughterhouse.

[Lokio]

Perry says, "Unless you've done this with more finesse before, we can drag that as a group, then portage the boat if we need to. I can drag half of this alone."

If they will help him, they can drag the beaver and portage the boat to the other side and carry on.

The captain has another option, "Or we could rent the crane used to move boats and loads across the bridge..."

[Lokio]

Perry shrugs. "Okay. Carry on."

[Jeriah]

The captain goes to talk to the crane operator there at the fortress. His crewmen begin to tie off the beaver's limbs and tail, lashing them down so that they don't flop around or get caught in the crane.

YOu're left standing there with out much to do.

[Lokio]

As the process goes on, Perry asks, "so what kind of rate do we get for these beavers? And who is paying for it?"

[Jeriah]

"For a skin like this, we could probably get five or six thou after expenses. It used to be more, but the market is getting flooded around here, and shipping them out is getting harder and harder."

[Lokio]

Perry whistled. "Not bad! Are there any bigger ones we could bring down?"

[Jeriah]

"This is the biggest one I've seen, but there's a drunken captain over at the Red Rose what says he saw one big as the castle itself. The man's mad though, ever since he lose his crew to the beasts."

The crane finishes transferring the beaver and the boat across the causeway.

Just as you are about to board, a servant wearing the livery of House Widmayer comes running up to you out of breath.

"Finally! {GASP} I've been {pant} looking {pant} all over for you, {pant} Mr. diCarto."

[Lokio]

Perry turns his head and smiles as he sees the livery. "What can I do for you, my friend?"

[Jeriah]

"House Widmayer formally 'requests' your presence immediately concerning matters you well know."

[Lokio]

Perry says, "House Widmeyer calls, I will be there. Please let me speak with the captain of my work crew for a moment and I will come with you right away."

He went up to the work crew captain, indicating the House Widmeyer servant and said, "I have been summoned by the Duchess Widmeyer to attend her immediately... with your leave, I would attend the noble so that I am not, well, executed." He injects some jest into his tone to keep it light, but he makes it clear he MUST go.

Diplomacy to make him not pissed off (1d20+17)[20]

[Jeriah]

"Fine, but if the Watch comes looking for you, I didn't give you permission to break parole."

[Lokio]

"I think House Widmeyer will do just fine. The Court also didn't put a schedule down on me doing my service, just that it gets done. See you later on."

He follows the servant to Widmeyer's place.

[Jeriah]

The servant leads you to the Sad Flint.

"Inside, please, sir."

[Lokio]

Perry enters, his armor glamored to appear to be a suit. He looks around for Widmeyer and will follow the servant.

[Jeriah]

The servant walks up to the bar, speaks briefly with the half-giant behind the bar, and gets a small, faintly glowing stone from him. He then walks back to you and says simply, "Upstairs."

[Lokio]

Perry heads up, looking around in case this is some kind of trap. He suspects that it's not, but he's careful.

Perry spots a small potted plant on an end table against the wall. He also spots a small tray with the leftover scraps from room service a few doors down. He also spots two rather crudely done paintings on the walls. Finally, he spots about 10 closed doors, five on either side of the hallway.

The servant gives Perry a strange look as Perry furtively glances around. "It's this way, sir."

He walks up to the fourth door on the left and presses the glowing stone to a flat metal plate near the door handle. An audible click reveals that the door has been unlocked. Opening the door, the servant motions and nods formally. "After you, sir."
