"No, I'm very very sure I don't want to know. But I guess you'd better tell me anyway." Charity says.

Vasquez watches him for a moment before pulling back her hand. "Do you want to be escorted out, or do you think you can find the way yourself?" She asks somewhat awkwardly.

Infirmary - Charity

Bugs gives Charity's hand a squeeze before speaking in hushed tones. "Please, keep this a secret. K'rax Naggath was better known as Zee. She fell, because we killed her. Only a handful of people know what happened. Vas, myself as Medic on Scene, a couple of technicians, and the volunteers." He says with a sigh. "When she arose like that, multiple times the size of the City, she killed dozens just by being there. When we heard, Edijar and a few of his team volunteered to stop her." Bugs looks down, somewhat ashamed. "We still don't know if her death is permanent."

Interrogation Room

Just before she takes her hand back, Gus belatedly catches it. "Let's see, what would Jakey do?" he muses, before bringing her hand up to kiss it. "I'd be honoured if you'd escort me out, Mistress."

Infirmary

Charity closes her eyes, taking a few deep breaths. ****ing Nexus. ****ing violence everywhere. Always the first option. Always. "Did anyone try talking to her?" she asks in a voice of forced calmness.

Interrogation Chamber

Vasquez chuckles and stands. "Alright, I'll show you the way out." She tells him.

Infirmary - Charity

"There wasn't time to do that. All she was doing was handing out little "quests" to get people to stop the end of the world, which her presence seemed to be causing. Our subs killed Dagon, another one of the things similar to her, and others were likely to come unless we did something." Bugs says all this looking away from Charity, down at his hands in shame.

Interrogation Room >> Gate

Gus allows himself to be escorted out. At the gate, he'll look a little awkward, and then stuff his hands in his pocket. "Bye."

Infirmary - Charity

Charity is silent for some time, before she finally says, "If she was doing that much harm, then I guess it was kind of like putting down a rabid dog." She pushes her fingers back through her hair and then tugs on it absently, more coloured sparkles falling off of her. "Why is everyone so badly affected though? They've all killed before. Why is this one so different?"

Gate

Vasquez offers a bit of a sad smile. "I'll be sure to see you around sometime." She tells him.

Infirmary - Charity

"Because it's Zee. She and Edijar go way back. Before he joined the Empire." Bugs says. "For the others, it'd be like killing a beloved artist. It sounds hypocritical, but it's one thing to kill a soldier, and another to kill one of the nicest people Inside."

Gus wanders off, looking confused and a little lonely.


Infirmary - Charity

"You haven't just killed soldiers," Charity argues. "And okay, I get that it's harder to kill someone you know. But everyone that's been on the other end of a Remnant bullet is important to somebody. Everyone is someone's brother or sister, someone's parent or child, someone's beloved in some way. Zee isn't more important than anyone else."

Bugs seems to grow older as Charity speaks, and when she's done, stands, head bowed. It's obvious he's trying to hold back tears, and barely succeeds. Eyes closed, he takes a deep breath and rips the Remnant patch from his uniform before dropping it and heading out, towards the gate unless stopped.

When taking a life didn't seem to matter so much any more, maybe it was time for him to just leave. He'd broken the true Hippocratic oath more times than he could count, an oath he swore to in order to protect people.

Instead, he was killing them.

He wasn't a doctor any more. Just a murderer.

"Oh hell oh hell oh hell, don't go..." Charity panics, and runs after Bugs, trying to grab him by the arm and pull him into a hug. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said it. I'm sorry. Please don't go. Please."

Jeany is hungry.

Oh so very hungry, yes.

Hungry like OM NOM NOM NOM!

She spent her first several minutes just chugging a lot of water. She's probably pretty dehydrated after all that throwing up. Next order of business?

She makes tacos.

So many tacos.

Once she has a plate piled high with tacos she sets into them like a hungry alien with crazy-high metabolism. Probably because that's exactly what she is.

The mean looking cook with a gun for an arm watches over Jeany carefully, and once she's done preparing food, scowls and gets to cleaning the dishes very meticulously.

Infirmary - Charity

Bugs is stopped before he can leave the room and seems to grow a bit smaller when she hugs him. He lets out a slow and tired sigh through her apologies before locking the door and prying himself from her. He stays quiet as he bends over to pick up his patch and take a seat, running his fingers over it. "Do you know why they call me Bugs, Charity?" He asks rhetorically. "It started as a joke, as in "What's up, Doc?" from a few of the other medical officers when we started up with the Empire. Over time, when they got killed off, and I didn't, the new recruits used it for something else." He says quietly.

"Now, it's because, like bugs or insects, I'm one of the first things to get to the dead and dying."

Bugs draws in a ragged breath, keeping the worst of his tears back, but still failing somewhat. "I hate this job Charity. I hate having to come in every morning, write off the dead, and then patch up the living, those I think of sons and daughters, only to send them back into the fray, knowing that there'll be fewer and fewer. Just a few days ago, I had to stand by and watch my best friend waste away before my eyes as he tried to control this Hell-hole. I could barely keep him alive." He says, looking up at her sadly, pleading for her to understand.

"I hate it all, but if I leave, who'll be here to patch up my family?"

The cook has a gun arm?

Why would someone with a cannon for an arm be in charge of fixing food? How is that even remotely a good idea?

...but then again...

How about having a Tyranid being the first thing people hear when calling Remnant for aid? Suddenly it makes a lot more sense why Jeany would be selected for that job...

"Umm... It's really good, thank you," Jeany pipes up from her table. "I hadn't been able to keep anything down for the past few days. But I think this is really hitting the spot. I'm Amil."

"I... didn't understand."

Charity stands up, paces a little, and then suddenly turns and punches the wall. "Christ, I'm such a ****ing sanctimonious bitch."




"Ow..... Okay, that was stupid."

Infirmary - Care

The male nurse nods and writes a bit on Care's medical sheet. She'll find her things folded and set aside on the end table next to her. "Need anything to eat or drink? I'm sure I can bring you something."

[Infirmary - Care]

Care makes a mental note not to cause trouble. Clearly if these guys were capable of folding up her crossbow and sword, they were obviously not people to be trifled with.
But Care does pick up her glasses and put them on. Because obviously sight is important. Also because if she leaves them off for too long her secret Force powers might activate and that would cause a whole world of trouble.
...
Of course, that's such an off the wall thought that Care decides to just ignore it completely. I mean... what kind of crazy stupid thought is that? Damn, she must still have the sedatives in her system.
"Um... yeah. I am hungry, actually. Really hungry."
Being sedated for an indeterminate amount of time will do that to you.

The nurse leaves, and sometime later, an officer returns with omelets and hashbrowns. (It was going to be tacos, but someone else ate them all.)

"Hi, how are you feeling?" Delisle asks.





Mess Hall

"You shouldn't go in the kitchen. The cook doesn't like that." Sunny observes.

[Infirmary - Care]

Food! Yay! "Thanks."
She takes a quick bite before answering.
"Um... okay, I guess. What's happening in the city? Is everything over?" Asks Care.

[Mess Hall]

"Yeah... If she had a gaze attack I think I would be getting turned to stone right now," Jeany mumbles, half to herself. Don't go in kitchen. Don't get on the wrong side of the cook.

A slight cough.

Another bite out of a taco.

And then a smile at Sunny.

"I'm Amil Wightson, recently got hired to run the help-line. So I guess I'll be the new voice of Remnant for all the people that call in because their house is over-run by armies of mantis-men."

Mantis-men are the worst.

"For certain definitions of 'over', yes," Delisle says. "It was worse than it should have been, better than it could have been. I'm Delisle. I got co-opted to do food delivery duty because the medical personnel are busy." Delisle says.

Mess Hall

"There are mantis-men? Does Vasquez know?" Sunny asks, in earnest.

Jeany manages to swallow a laugh. Giggling at someone's sincere concern isn't nice at all. Especially about something as serious as mantis-men!

The jeanstealer shakes her head. "Not anymore, no. There were some several months ago, though. Remnant and the various heroes around Inside already dealt with them."

Which is most certainly a good thing!

As said already mantis-men are bad news.

Jeany looks down at the several plates of tacos sitting in front of her and pushes one that she wasn't touched yet toward Sunny.

"I'm guessing you came in here to get something to eat, right? Sorry about gobbling everything up. I've got a pretty high metabolism now and I haven't really eaten in the last three days."

"Mhm. Usually Carl cooks, but he's busy," Sunny says. Last minute tux alterations. She takes a bite and smiles. "This is really good. Thank you."

[Infirmary - Care]

"Well, at least the danger's over, right?" Tome to rebuild and recover, just in time for the next apocalypse to swing by! Though Care's still out of a home. And probably a job too, unless her workplace somehow miraculously survived the apocalypse.

Figures if it did. Biggest cesspool of a job in the entire Nexus, of course the apocalypse saw fit to spare it.
"I'm Care. Care Williams."

"Oh, well. I didn't make them. I just piled them onto some plates and ate them," Jeany admits. Though she could probably make them. Making tacos isn't a terribly difficult task as far as food preparation goes. And as an added bonus they're pretty darn delicious!

Meat and cheese and grain and vegetables!

The perfect food for an omnomnomnivore!

"Carl cooks usually... I'll keep that in mind if I see someone new in the kitchen. It'll be a real challenge to learn everyone's name. But I've found making a game out of it really helps out."

One gets points for remembering names! Everyone likes points.

She mutters 'Carl cooks' a few times under her breath.

"Have you worked here at Remnant long?"

But your post yesterday said Amil was making the tacos!

"Oh no, Carl doesn't cook in the Mess Hall. He cooks at home. He's my fiancé." Sunny says, beaming happily. "I started to work here last year, as an engineer."

Infirmary - Care
"Danger from Old Ones is mostly over. There's something new out there, called a... Tyranid I think? Not sure if it's going to grow into an apocalypse or not, but it's already killing our men," Delisle says.

"A- a what? That's terrible!"
They aren't due an apocalypse for several months at least! Care calls shenanigans!

Oh!

That just means making in the sense of assembling the taco-components. Not, y'know, cooking the meat and stuff. Jeany probably would have had a rolling-pin shot out of a cannon at her or something if she had tried to actually cook anything.

Hopefully that clears up all confusion forever!

"Your fiance? That's wonderful. Congratulations and I hope you two will be very happy together."

And manage to exist as a couple without falling to the stagnation of DOOM! that occasionally falls on PC couples. Because that's terrible.

"A year huh? You must be pretty familiar with how things work around here, then. Are there any taboos I should know about?"

She glances over her shoulder.

"Aside from not going into the kitchen?"

"Let's hope not." Delisle says with a sigh. "Either way, you should eat."

Luckily for Care and Delisle, the OOC rumor mill says that Moon Called's tyranids will not become a doom plot.

Mess Hall

"Taboos? You mean like not going where you don't have security clearance?" Sunny asks.

"Like that, yeah. Oor..."

Jeany crinkles her forehead a bit.

"At the last place I worked we had a floor manager who just hated the color red for some reason. If someone brought a red anything onto his floor he would go ballistic."

That seems kind of weird and crazy...

"Sometimes people have little quirks, things that upset or bother them. I would really rather avoid upsetting people. Like not going in the kitchen? I wouldn't have known about that if you hadn't told me."

And would have had upset a gun-armed cook.

Bugs can't help but give a small laugh and slight smile before getting up to look at her hand. "Charity, I'm a 53 year old, murdering hypocrit who's convinced himself that he's been a good person. I think the world can handle a couple sanctimonious bitches." He says as he feels her hand to make sure nothing is broken. "Just...go back to Edijar, tell him you know, and that you still love him for it."

"But you weren't supposed to go in the kitchen! You don't work there. Why did you need me to tell you?" Sunny says.

Infirmary - Charity

"I will," Charity says. She managed to split the skin on two of her knuckles, but nothing is broken. "Do you, maybe, want some help here? I don't have any medical training except for a first aid course in college, but I could fetch and carry."

Bugs sighs when he sees her knuckles and pulls out a couple bandages from his pocket to patch her up. "I think I would appreciate that." He tells her with a slight smile. "We can talk about it more after the wedding though."
