    Reinholdt:
What question would you like to be asked?
Well, that depends who's doing the asking, really.

What traits do you look for in an ideal pet?
    Adorableness, I guess.

What is the square root of Pi?
An irrational number which hardly anyone bothers memorising any digits of because it's so rarely relevant.

    What's your favorite OOTS strip?
I don't think I can really answer that without first archive binging the whole thing and then thinking about it for a while.

    What's your favorite Erfworld strip?
    Never read it.

How does your ITP persona relate to you in real life?
They're pretty much the same, allowing for differences brought on by the medium of communication.

Sadistic choice time! You must choose to save either the life of your most loved one or the lives of a large group of strangers. Which do you choose?
    Take a third option.

    What is your favorite word?
Zerschniferschnück. It's the german for "went snicker-snack" from the german translation of Jabberwocky.

What is your least favorite word?
Really can't think of one. All words have their good points. It's just a matter of how you use them.

    What makes you enthusiastic?
My friends. Gilbert & Sullivan. Books. Pocketwatches.

    What disappoints you?
At least one acquaintance of mine. Casting committees. Idiots. Vandals.

    What sound do you love?
    Music.

    What sound do you hate?
    Music being butchered.

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
    Librarian.

What profession would you not like to participate in?
Call centre, bar work or anything too heavy on manual labour.

    wxdruid:
What color(s) do you prefer to wear?
Pretty much any, though I have a particular fondness for navy blue.

What do you like to collect?
G&S shows I've performed in, and parts I've played in them. Books. I seem to have been collecting shirts and jackets for a while as well.

How many avatars do you have?
Hang on, let me count... 36, including one I never actually used, but discounting different versions of the same avatar.

    Will you ever attend GenCon?
    I hope so.

What type of chocolate do you prefer?
    Depends on my mood.

What type and how many pets do you have?
None, though the cat from two houses along the street comes and visits from time to time.

Do you enjoy watching the Weather Channel?
There's a channel just for weather?

    The Rose Dragon:
Is it true that when you sit around the house, you really sit around the house?
No, the house is considerably larger than I am, so I couldn't feasibly sit all the way around it.

Do you feel pretty? Oh so pretty? Do you feel pretty and witty and gay? And do you pity any girl who is not you today?
Not quite. I feel pretty and witty and bright, and I pity any girl who isn't me tonight.

    Mangosta:
Do you, in fact, have any cheese here at all?
No, sir. This is a polearm emporium, sir.

Will you go quietly when they come for you?
I'll go so quietly they won't even notice I'm already gone when they come.

What is your anti-zombie weapon of choice?
    SCIENCE!

Are you running to something, or from something?
    Invariably, both.

    What's the magic word?
A sequence of syllables which somehow invoke supernatural powers, possibly by some innate linguistic connection to the fabric of the universe, or possibly just by serving as the key to the prospective spellcaster's cognitive mystical alignment.

    Savannah:
Why did you pick Thufir as your username?
I'd been trying for a while to think of a decent username to use for this place, then I read Dune. On reading about mentats, I immediately liked the idea and thought I could quite possibly have been one given the appropriate training. But just 'Mentat' seemed a bit impersonal, so I went with Thufir.

Why'd you pick what you did for your avatar?
Which avatar? I mean, several of them are just me, in costume for G&S, or in a slightly chess-themed suit. The current one is something akin to what I would be like as a pony.

Is there anything about you that you think people should know that they won't get from just reading your posts?
    If so, what is it?

    Can't think of anything offhand.

    gw's Questions of Questionable Intent
    1. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? If so, who?
Might depend on how strongly you define 'crush'. I'm never sure how strictly to define these things, and also I'm not great at rating them, so I don't know how far through a possible list to go...

    2. What is one thing about yourself you're the most proud of?
    I'm me. I don't think I can separate out a particular aspect.

    3. Roses or orchids?
Probably orchids. Roses are a bit cliche.

    4. What sustains you, keeps you going every day?
    Force of habit.

    5. How did you get to be so awesome?
Well, 3 years ago I joined this forum you may have heard of called the Playground, and it really helped me to come out of my shell a bit.

    6. Where were you ten years ago, and what do you know now that you wish you knew back then?
Ten years ago... I was 12, going on 13. Year 7...
I don't know. I always have issues with this sort of question, because I'm all too aware of the butterfly effect. Maybe if I'd received some pertinent advice when I was 12 it would have improved my life in the short term. But how much would it change? While I've had some not-so-good times in the course of my life, they've led me to where I am now, and I don't want to lose what I have.

    7. If the human race vanished tomorrow, leaving only you and one other person to keep you company, who would you want that person to be?
    Curly.

    8. Who is one person who died before you were born that you'd most like to speak with?
I really don't know. Because, I could pick some famous person I admire, but I admire them for the things for which they're famous, and I can learn about those anyway. Getting to speak to someone should be more about who they are as a person, and I don't really know so much about that.
Shakespeare I suppose I could find out if there were any lost plays. Either he or Marlowe would be interesting to see if they were as adept with words in conversation as they were in their writing. Well-known wits or philosophers would naturally be interesting to listen to. I don't have enough of an interest in history to pick a great historical figure just to find out the truth of some famous historical event.
If I can pick a fictional dead person, King Arthur. Otherwise, the person who really comes to mind, who, having read his autobiography, I would really like to have known is Harpo Marx.

    9. When your life comes to an end, how do you want to be remembered/what do you want to be remembered for?
    I don't know. I just hope it's something good.

    10. Gah! These questions have taken a turn for the depressing! Quick, what is your favorite lolcat!? (Bonus cookies for posting a pic.)
    I dunno.

    11. What super-power would you want to use to stop Godzilla if he was attacking where you live?
Intuitive aptitude. Not sure how I'd use that to stop Godzilla, but your question doesn't stipulate me specifying a feasible course of action using said super-power, effectively making it "What super-power would you like to have?"

    12. Beards or babies?
    Context is all.

    13. Have you ever made up a word? If so, what is that word and what is its definition?
My mum made up a word: 'biscuitous' - of, like, or pertaining to biscuits.
I'm not sure if I've ever made up a word. There was one time I was writing an essay and used a perfectly logical construction which I'd never seen before and thought "Is that a word? It is now!" And in general I will sometimes use odd constructions based on existing words.
I also have my own standard incoherent expressions of frustration: "Grrfnyargle" and "Brickenbrockenfrickenfracken"

    14. Define the following word: whiloplenulent?
Adjective. Providing sustenance and energy over an extended period of time.

    15. What's an old-fashioned song or short schmaltzy bit of poetry that's stuck in your head?
At the moment? The finale of Yeomen of the Guard.

    16. Favorite mythological monster?
    Dragon.

    17. Enough of this! I am your arch-nemesis! Where will we fight our final, climactic battle?
    In my mind.

    18. In #17, above, did you defeat me? If so, how?
You succeeded in penetrating my mind, but were helpless once inside, because I hold all the keys to my self.

    19. Do you prefer the silly questions or the serious ones?
Serious, but a smattering of silly is also good.

    20. Why did you decide to submit yourself to these torturous, probing questions?
So that more may know of my glory! Or at least get to know me a bit more.
Also, last time hardly anyone asked me anything.

    Zherog:

I don't know any other names they considered, but I know they did consider a number of other names before I was born, but felt after I was born that I just was a [NAME REDACTED]

What's your favorite memory from 2010?
Do I have to pick just one? Hmm...
It's a toss-up between playing Ralph Rackstraw in HMS Pinafore and the two UK meetups which happened in that year.

I'm curious...why would you not want to work at a bar? (This coming from someone who was a bartender for 12 years.)
Being rushed off my feet in a crowded, likely noisy place dealing with an endless string of drunken demands for alcohol? I'll pass.

    Blue Ghost
    How’s life at the moment?
Pretty good. G&S-filled until next Sunday. I need to get some things sorted out, though. And organise my birthday party.

    Favorite color?
    Navy blue.

    Favorite fruit?
    Satsumas and the like.

    Favorite ice cream?
Not sure. Depends on mood really. If I want something sweet, either honeycomb or toffee butterscotch. But sometimes I'd rather something less sweet, in which case I'd probably go for something fruit flavoured, but I don't really know what.

    What is your theme song?
    Don't know.

    What is your alignment?
Roughly due west at the moment. Hey, you didn't specify D&D alignment...
OK, somewhere between NG and N.

What is your Magic: The Gathering color?
Never played, know nothing about it.

What is the meaning of life?
Does it have to have one?

    What are your thoughts on:

    Love?
Complicated. I wrote a whole blog post on the subject and I could probably still say more.

    Friendship?
Good? Important? A fairly non-specific topic on which to ask for opinions?

    Freedom?
Also complicated, for reasons described somewhat by Lord Vetinari in the Discworld book Going Postal. And probably other reasons as well.

What is the color of your aura?
I have trouble with questions like this because I don't really associate colours with personality traits at all.

What does your essence taste like?
    Or tastes.

    What’s your elemental affinity?
    Surprise.
    Alternatively, carbon.

Who would you ask to the next Playground Prom, if we had one?
    Curly.

Are you part of any other online communities?
Facebook. Also a couple of forums containing people I know IRL, but they're basically dead now.

How often do you clean out your PM box?
I delete PMs as and when I feel I need to. I never completely clear my PM box, because there are some PMs I'm holding onto for nostalgia purposes.

What fictional character do you most identify with?
...That's a really difficult question. Do you know how many fictional characters I can think of? I don't, but it's a lot.

    Socks: Yes or no?
Yes. I'd be surprised if anyone said no.

    What’s your pony name?
    Don't know.

Do you know any Playgrounders in real life?
A fair few. I love meetups!

    Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll
    1977?
11 years before I was born. 2 years after Karpov became world champion. Elvis Presley was taken away by aliens? Or was that '76?

You look dashing. How DO you do it? You would not be out of place as a musketeer, if you grew your hair to shoulder length.
    ...My hair is shoulder length.
And, I don't know. I just try and take care of my hair. and my beard, while I have one. Oh, and I dress fairly well, though I could still do with more fancy clothes and a wardrobe in which to put them.

You say you like music, hmm? What's your favourite genre/artist/album/song?
Really difficult question. I mean, obviously I have a great focus on Gilbert & Sullivan, so there's that. I find it difficult to compare that much between genres. I also like some musicals, Les Miserables being the one which really sticks out. Choral music is good, both the old-fashioned stuff (Mahler's 8th, Beethoven's 9th. Seriously) and the more modern stuff, choral arrangements of relatively popular songs. Oh, and barbershop. I can provide a few youtube links if people want.
Then, on music closer to the modern mainstream, I'm really never sure of the divisions between the genres of pop/rock/etc, but favourite artist has to be David Ford. Also up there are Duke Special and Beccy Owen. And going back in time a bit, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and The Kinks.
Album, well, The Carnival Leaves Town by The Dawn Chorus is pretty good, to pick one from out of my list of favourite artists/bands, but really I have to go into that list. But the thing is, I tend to like all of their stuff, so which album do I choose? Probably the most recent for the modern ones, so Let The Hard Times Roll for David Ford, I Never Thought This Day Would Come for Duke Special and... actually, no, for Beccy Owen I'd say The Singer Kicks beats out Down With Gravity. As far as Pink Floyd goes, Wish You Were Here, particularly for Shine On You Crazy Diamond, definite contender for favourite song there. Can't really pick for Beatles and I onyl really know The Kinks from their Best Of actually.
Song, I've mentioned SOYCD, then, well, going back to G&S, probably A British Tar from HMS Pinafore. Choral, I mentioned Mahler and Beethoven. Modern stuff, well, thing is, with some of my favourite albums it's difficult to pick out a favourite song, because it's just that I like the whole thing together. Duke Special - Love is a Series of Scars. Beccy Owen - Stormbound and Mention. David Ford - Hurricane. Oh, also There is a Light The Never Goes Out, by The Smiths, as performed by David Ford. I don't like the original so much.
I could probably come up with more.

Do you play music in any way?
I used to play violin and viola, but I haven't for years. I started learning piano, and intend to go back and teach myself a bit more, when I find the plug for my keyboard... I can get to a reasonable level of competence on specific pieces. Bass guitar, I achieved a basic level of proficiency and then kind of stopped, but I'm sure I could get back into it. Want to learn other instruments as well.
    Oh, and I sing.

Have you ever considered doing so? As an idle dream, even?
    See above.

    Archonic Energy
    Do you play CCGs?
It would be helpful if you'd uninitialise that.

If you could be any CCG card what would you be?
Still don't know what you're talking about.

    Cisco or Nortel?

    iPod ot MP3 player?
    mp3 player.

    Bose or Beats?
Beats brings to mind genres of music I'm not overly fond of. Bose is a famous physicist. Bose!

    Mac or PC?
    PC.

    360 or PS3
    PS3.

    Blu Ray or DivX stream?
I don't see the point of the first and I don't really know what the second is.

    TARDIS or DeLorean?
    TARDIS all the way.

    Hoopy or frood?
Frood, of course. Hoopy just means "Really together guy," whereas frood means "Really amazingly together guy. It's just unambiguously better.

    Invisibility cloak or elder wand?
Hmm, tricky. Power is tempting, and it doesn't seem like the being constantly targeted thing was so much a property of the wand as of the people who had it. Though people could always find out by investigation... yeah, invisibility cloak.

    B5 or DS9?
B5, and I'm sure I will retain this view even once I've actually seen DS9.

Are you going to update your blog any time soon?
Yes! I just need to edit some videos together and then I'll make a post about my holiday. And then one about Portal 2. However I'm a bit occupied at the moment with G&S, limiting my time to a certain extent. Oh, and of course then they'll be a post about Yeomen of the Guard, and one about HMS Pinafore after next week. And probably one about Doctor Who.

    Scotch or Bourbon?
    Neither.

    HCl or NaOH?
That's... hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide?
    They're both deadly, aren't they?

CCG = collectible card game, if that helps you answer those questions.

GDI and Nod are the two factions in Command and Conquer. GDI = good guys and Nod = bad guys.

CCG, Nod & GDI have been explained already.

and since i'm already typing... more either or questions!
they are easier to type than fully fleged questions and can be just as informative:

    Ice or Fire?

    favorite season?

    Doctor or Master?

What can change the nature of a man?

    Black Mesa or Apeture Science?

    Death or Cake?

if you had super powers would you be a hero or villan?

what super power would you like?

what would your super alias be called?

Life has given you lemons, what is your reaction?

did you notice my spelling error in my last batch?

Well, I've never played Command & Conquer, so I can't answer that one.
As to CCGs, when I was younger I joined in a little bit with the pokemon card craze, though not so much as some people. So that's the only one I really know, which gives me limited choices for the "If you could be a card" question...
Oh wait! Top Trumps is a CCG isn't it. And there are Doctor Who Top Trumps cards. I would be the Doctor.

    Ice or Fire?
Depends if I'm too hot or too cold. In general though, fire can keep you alive with warmth. Ice is less useful in that regard.

    Favourite season?
Each season is whatyou make of it. It's down to what you do with the time for me more than the season itself. With that in mind, summer, because my friends are out of uni and there's lots of scope for doing fun things.

    Doctor or Master?
    Doctor.

What can change the nature of a man?
    Experience.

    Black Mesa or Aperture Science?
Aperture Science. I just really love to test.

    Death or Cake?
    Cake.

If you had super powers would you be a hero or villain?
Not sure if I'd be either. I might just be a regular guy. With super-powers.

What super power would you like?
Intuitive aptitude, I already said this.

What would your super alias be called?
That would likely be determined by the public or the press in the event I did any hero-ing or villain-ing. I'm not overly bothered about it.

Did you notice my spelling error in my last batch?
Well, you misspelled 'DeLorean'. And... hang on, I'll check... you DID misspell Wheatley! I thought there was an e in there, but then convinced myself otherwise.
For the record, in this set of questions, you misspelled 'favourite', 'Aperture' and 'villain'.

    P-Body or Atlas?
Atlas. I like the blue portals.

    or ?

Edit: And... you edited your post while I was answering or after I answered your questions.

Life has given you lemons, what is your reaction?
Much as I love Cave Johnson, I have to go with something I think I saw in someone's signature here: "If life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Try to figure out how you got an abstract concept like life to give you a physical object like lemons. Then you will be one step further to bending the universe to you will."
    Or words to that effect.

    I don't know guns.

If you were stranded on a non-desert livable island for a year, and you had to take me and two other things with you, what would those two things be?
That's decidedly non-specific as to the nature of the island. I mean, Britain is a non-desert livable island, in which case I wouldn't really need to take anything with me because it's all already here.

Then... It is in fact a desert isle. The "desert" comes from the fact that it's deserted, not from its climate.

Oh, right, questions. Umm... If you could be non-fatally stabbed with a solid gold dagger, would you? Assuming that if you do so, you can keep the dagger.

On nomenclature of desert islands: I'd say that's debatable at least, since desert as in the climate also derives from a word in some old language for something being abandoned (Or 'deserted').
Certainly, when one mentions a desert island, you think of a desert climate. I'd say that's the association and so that is the meaning at this point, even if it may not have been the original source of the term. If you wanted to talk about an island which was deserted, but non-desert climate-wise, you would call it (wait for it...) a deserted island. Surprisingly enough.

    The Rose Dragon:
It's otherwise deserted, and very small. Does it change your answer?
Hmm. Well, if there's some way to get electricity and internet access I'd definitely want my laptop. Other than that... I don't know.

    Kneenibble:
What is one great thing about living in the UK?
    The people who live here.

What is the oldest book you have handled?
Um, I've briefly handled a 1920s vocal score of Ruddigore... I don't generally ask how old books are when handling them, but I can't think of an occasion when I've handled a particularly old book.

Have you ever been to Lincoln Cathedral?
    No.

Suppose I visit England one day; would you show me the sights, provided I promised not to try to comb your hair with a comb carved of water-buffalo horn?
I'm not sure what that comb thing refers to, but I'd show you anything you want.

    Worira:
If you could be non-fatally stabbed with a solid gold dagger, would you? Assuming that if you do so, you can keep the dagger.
I'd rather just have the monetary value of the solid gold dagger. Of course I'm not entirely sure how much money that'd be.
Also, non-fatally allows for a whole range of possible stabbings. Hell, stabbing only refers to the act, not necessarily inflicting any wound. I could wear body armour which would completely protect me from any hypothetical stab wound, and I would still be being stabbed, definitely non-fatally. In which case, sure, that would be totally worth it.

    gw's Questions of Duplicitous Intent
    1. Do you hold grudges? If so, for how long?
I do hold grudges if given definite cause to, and I hold them as long as seems reasonable. I only drop a grudge if I see reasonable evidence the person against whom I hold said grudge genuinely repents what they did to cause it and intends to act counter to such in future.

    2. What's your favorite band/musician?
See answer to Gwyn's question on the subject above.

    3. Do you like juice? If so, what is your favorite kind of juice. If not, what would you rather drink?
Can't beat orange juice. I might sometimes feel like something different, but orange juice is just always good.

    4. Which do you prefer, wool or cotton?
Cotton I guess? Whenever I've worn something made of wool, it's been itchy.

    5. Have you ever owned a slinky?
    YES.

    6. If you could take on the mantle of an established comic-book character, which one would you choose? That is, if you could become Batman, Superman, Mysterio, Magneto, Nite Owl, etc., which would you want to become?
Tricky. I'm not such a massive comics fan, certainly not the 'mainstream' comics as it were, superheroes and suchlike. And the comics I do read, I like the characters, but I wouldn't necessarily want to be them.

    7. Which is your favorite meal of the day?
Probably dinner. The other two have little variety. I like it that way well enough, but still, it rather precludes them being considered a favourite.

    8. Do you eat a lot of snacks?
Not a great deal, but some.

    9. What is your favorite restaurant?
Probably the Ming Cottage. Chinese restaurant about 20 minutes walk away where me and my family go every year on or around the anniversary of us moving up here. Which, come to think of it, is coming up soon this year...

    10. Who was the most recent person you talked to in person?
    My mum.

    11. What was the last thing you said to that person?
    "OK."

    12. Which of the following two words do you think makes a sentence creepier when added to the end: 'ladies' or 'hard'?
Depends on the sentence really. Also on how you say it. But on average... I'm gonna go with 'ladies'.

    13. What do you think of when you read the word 'fishmember?'
I interpret it as a portmanteau of 'fish' and 'remember', and so think it's either something to do with remembering fish or with the memories of fish.

    14. Do you like haiku?
    Haiku are easy.
But sometimes they don't make sense.
    Refrigerator.

    15. If you had a choice between zombies or aliens destroying humanity, which would you choose?
If the destruction is completely inevitable, aliens, since they can more likely be negotiated with to leave some things. If the destruction is not completely inevitable, zombies, because they're much more evitable.

    16. Sufficiently advanced aliens visit earth and say they'll change just one thing about you. It can be anything at all. What would you choose?
Is this not essentially just another superpower question?
I'll try and come up with a different answer. Regenerative properties could be cool. Suddenly, I don't have to worry about taking care of my teeth, because they'll just revert to a good, healthy state over time. Never worry about going bald, I can just get new hair follicles! Also injuries healing.

    17. Do you think aliens from another planet ever actually visit Earth?
Should there be a 'will' in this question? Because, well, either way I'm not entirely sure. But if there's a 'will' then I think there may be appreciable chances of it happening someday, whereas if there isn't, you're asking if I think they do so already, and I'm pretty skeptical about that.

    18. Do you prefer to control a project from beginning to end, always repair the same flaw in someone else's project, choose to leave well enough alone, or some other mode of creation I haven't figured out here?
I prefer to control things myself throughout.

    19. You could build your dream house within five miles of your current home. What goes into it?
No restrictions? Alright then. For starters, it's probably like a TARDIS - bigger on the inside than the outside. Also, some sort of teleportation device to take me around the world so I can visit Playgrounders and American Friend.
Next, massive library. And I do mean MASSIVE.
Wardrobe containing variety of costumes and suits, particularly some Victorian-style suits.
Entertainment stuff, TV of decent size, consoles, lots of DVDs and a decent number of games.
All rooms can be soundproofed to allow for different choices of music. Soothing and classical in the library, more modern and possibly high-energy stuff in the entertainment room, you get the idea.
Music room - variety of instruments, and some recording equipment.
And obviously I'd need the important basics - kitchen, bathroom(s), bedrooms. Have a decent number of spare bedrooms for friends.

    20. I give you a seed; you water it with your favorite bit of poetry. What sprouts from it?
Hmm. Have to decide on my favourite bit of poetry first. Would it be that bit of Tennyson, or The Hunting of the Snark? Because the two would produce rather different results I imagine. The Tennyson would sprout something somehow inspiring towards greatness. Whereas Hunting of the Snark would sprout something decidedly weird.

    rakkoon:
    Are you a Mentat?
I'm not. I didn't have the right training.

How come I fantasised about asking the previous question this morning before I even knew you were being interviewed?
    Because I'm just that sexy.
Alternatively, serendipity and maybe 'fantasised' isn't quite the word you're looking for.

    Kneenibble:
    Which bit of Tennyson?
    End of... Ulysses I think?
"Tho' much is taken, much abides, and tho'
We are not now that strength that in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are -
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
Quoted on Babylon 5. I loved it there and I love it in general.

    Favourite work of Gaiman's?
Oh man, that's a difficult question. I do love American Gods. Neverwhere is wonderful of course. Anansi Boys for a mroe cheerful one. On the other hand, some of his best stuff is in his short stories...
I think I still have to go with Good Omens, as it's something I'm always willing to read.

If you could learn any one other language which would it be?
Tricky. Japanese would allow me to watch anime without subtitles... on the other hand, German or Italian would be helpful for opera. Probably have to go with one of those, though I'm also somewhat tempted by Russian, for literature and unusualness.

    Captain Happy:
What is your most favourite English word?
I find this really difficult to answer. Words don't particularly distinguish themselves from each other for me. Nothing really prompts me to grant them preferences. I view it so much as just the English language. They're all equal constituent parts of it.
That said, I have a certain fondness for made up words that just make perfect sense. Like 'upsettling' and 'noonlight'. 'Gallumphing' is also pretty good. Hmm, are there any good made up words in Hunting of the Snark? There must be some, surely...

    Have you ever travelled overseas?

If so, what event really drove it home that you weren't in your own country anymore?

What place/s do you most and least want to visit?

What have you recently discovered or worked out about yourself?

In what ways have you changed since you were half your current age?

In what ways have you stayed the same?

What is one great thing about living in Canada?

If I came over to Canada, would you show me around, take me out somewhere nice?

I can't recall if I've ever known, why is your standard avatar a budgie?
