    When the kobold leader attacks the golden rune kourni had used on him begins to glow and inflames, burns into his flesh. Kourni loughs and attacks him again, casting another rune on his skin. But the energy orb had brought herself in danger, and so she moves back to the woods some steps to have some cover.

    Kourni shoves Irontooth away from her allies who proceed to hurl everything they have at the Goblin. Irontooth's body is racked by the blows but before he can fall to the ground defeated, he brings his axes around one last time to strike Kourni down, as he falls Irontooth cries out Kalarel and Lord Orcus, prepare my way!

    With Irontooth out of the way, the heroes make short work of the remaining kobolds. As they survey the scene of the fight they spot Dawn, Kourni, and Thyrn who all died at the ends of the kobolds. Valandil takes his leave of the party as he has seen enough death this day and heads back to town alone.

    As Draziw patches up Crane, they begin to search the bodies of the fallen foes as well as the interior of the cave.

    Sgian-dubh wakes up in a sweat, after the fighting has ceased. The demonic powers in him wanted to taste kobold blood for their locking him up. His father spoke to him in a dream and whispered things in his ear still. He shook his head to get the noises out and spoke to the adventurers who had killed the Kobolds, "Free me as well, and I will help you kill these wretched little things and get out of here." Something told him, perhaps it was a whisper, to go along with these people, at least for now.

    Chained and isolated in a deep part of the cavern, Reeve cursed at himself. I was too fast! How could I be so stupid?, he thought. He had apparently beaten the adventurers to the kobold camp and was quickly overwhelmed by their forces. Not only that, they would be on high alert for when the adventurers made it there.

    It was a welcome sound to hear the sound of leather shoes against the hard rock floor for once, as opposed to the scratching sound the kobolds made as they walked. Apparently the adventurers had prevailed where he had not.

    Reeve staggered to his feet while still chained to the wall and greeted his rescuers. "You honor me with your presence. I hurried here to aid you against the kobold menace but it appears I misjudged how quickly I'd arrive. I managed to slay a few before I was subdued.

    However, I must apologize for the forces you encountered. If it wasn't for my haste, they may not have been expecting you and the resistance you faced may have been lessened.

    Regardless, I thank you for rescuing me. You have done this land a great service and my temple will be proud to hear of your exploits. If possible, I would like to accompany you back to Winterhaven to report to Lord Padraig.


    Wiping the blood from his face, Reeve grabbed his greatspear and followed his new companions out of the cave.

    The monk enters the back room in his wooden sandals. He unlocks whatever cages and manacles and other devices hold the prisoners with Irontooth's key. This is no cause for celebration. Three honoured friends have died to win you this freedom. They must be buried, and then we can return to Winterhaven, says the monk morosely. Having freed the prisoners, he crouches beside Kourni and speaks softly in giant. He closes the goliath's eyes and then moves on to Thryn. I hope your soul finds peace in spite of your pact, warlock, he says, before closing Thryn's eyes and turning at last to Dawn. May your next rebirth be peaceful, Dawn. You have earned it. He closes the deva's eyes and then drags the bodies to the mouth of the cave. We will require stones to build cairns. This ground is too hard for proper graves. That said, he begins collecting stones to bury their dead.

    Verin was grateful for his release from the Kobolds' bindings. He stretched his limbs to help recover from the stiffness which had beset his muscles in captivity. He briefly thanked his rescuers and introduced himself before reaching into his pack to retrieve a heavy cloak, which he fastened around himself.
    Upon coming to the conclusion that his rescuers were likely adventurers or mercenaries, he decided to offer them aid in their endeavors, partially out of gratitude, and partially out of need for something to do beyond wandering about the land.
