Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
Here's my Deatrh Company Dreadnought that will be Moriar the Chosen once I get the rules for him properly laying waste to the Tau.
Not a great photo I'm afraid as you can't see the carnage I wrought on the carapace as Moriar's a lunatic who just doesn't care but he has a pair of chainfists now. The Dragon's just temporary, something to be on the bannerpole until I can make a banner for him.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
Hello everyone!
I just realized last week that the Dreadnought, Venerable Dreadnought, and Ironclad kits all do not have a Multi-Melta option.
I've been wondering for a while now, is there a cheap means of getting a nice Multi-Melta for a Dreadnought? I really do not want to buy a buttload of AoBR sets just so I can have enough Multi-Melta Dreadnoughts. Conversion options are alright, although nothing as complicated as sculpting my own Multi-Melta please. Maybe grabbing myself a Multi-Melta from somewhere else and sticking it to a Dreadnought arm?

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
This is true, although to be honest, I would rather do this as a last resort. $18.95 per Dreadnought is still a little too expensive for me, and since I'm going to be getting a few Venerable Dreadnoughts sometime soon, I might not need the rest of the Dreadnought. The only thing I really need is the Multi-Melta.

Tali's the best looking of the bunch (because you did the most customization). Very cool!

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
Thanks! I hope to have more painted pics soon.
Tali was surprisingly easy really, given I thought she would be the hardest - I just had to cut the heels off the mini's original boots to get the digitigrade look, and cut most of the minis jaw away as she has a rather long neck. Liaras scalp probably took longer overall, and still needs work done on it!
Everyone still needs cleaning up and some more work, but I think I'll give them a light undercoat to get a better look first.Princess in the streets.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
Hey guys,
Having finished up my finals, I am returning (briefly) to my vintage Lizardmen project before I head off to my PhD in October. I've stripped and re-primed my Temple Guard, and stripped, re-assembled and re-primed my Slann, but I have come across a snag - the old-school bearers for the Slann will not fit on a 50x50 base, as they used to go on two cavalry bases separated by the width of another base.
This combined with the fact that they are an absolute pain to glue together without falling to bits the minute you breathe on them, means that I think I'm going to stick with having a 'free-floating' Slann. However, I already destroyed the perspex flying base that I used before when stripping his paint, and it looked very boring too. So what I'm looking for is ideas on how to make a 5th edition Slann float, and look good doing so.
I've seen some people on the web who make their Slann float on a Throne of Vines; it seems a nice idea but I don't habitually use the Lore of Life, and would like to do something different. I have been using a theme of broken paving slabs/overgrown temple architecture for the bases - one thing I am considering is having him flying at the top of a column of floating pieces of masonry, each floating free of the others and seeming to rotate around each other. I think that could probably be done with polystyrene and small pieces of wire (to form the 'invisible' supports) and would then cloak something much sturdier than a flying base (say a piece of metal rod) to support the Slann himself. Trouble is, I don't know where to find the good polystyrene (i.e. the blue high-density stuff that we used to use in the woodwork class at school) that I'd need - does anyone know where to get it, or a different suitable material (and where to obtain that)? I live in London.Last edited by LCP; 2011-07-06 at 11:44 AM.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
Guys, I ran into a small problem with one of my Land Speeder bases. The tip of the base where the base connects to the Land Speeder has snapped off, and the tip is currently inside of my Land Speeder. I can hear it rattle inside of it. I'm not sure if I can safely take it out without damaging my Speeder, so I'd like to avoid that as much as possible.
Do you guys have any suggestions on what I can replace the tip with?

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
If you don't mind filing a bit, you can make a tip with the current broken base. It will be a bit shorter but you can taper the current tip
I play:
RPG: Pathfinder; D&D 3.X, 4; L5R; World of Darkness; Exalted, and many more.
Warhammer Fantasy: Greenskins and Bretonnia
Warmachine: Cygnar and Trollblood
Malifaux: Rasputina (Arcanists)
Warhammer 40k: Tau and Necron.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
Hi all, I just got into Warhammer 40K a couple moths ago, and after many horrible paint jobs I have decided to come here for help. I have several questions to ask so I guess I'll just number them off to make replying less of a hassle.
1. I painted my army but I don't like the way it turned out and wan to start again. Should I try to remove the paint or should I just lightly spray over it like I had planned to do?
2. My cousin who got into the game with me had decided to take a theme of haloween (Specifically pumpkins, focusing on black and orange) so I decided that I'll do the same thing and get my own theme. I've decided to go with a undead theme with Vampires, Skeletons, Zombies, and ghouls. I'm starting with my taunts so I need to know a good way to make my hormagaunts look like skeletons or zombies (or both to mix it up a bit). I have no idea what 95% of painting terms are so describe it to me like as if I'm a 5 year old.
3. I bought a Hive Tyrant and have decided to magnetize it. However I lack green stuff to use and my local comic book shop ran out. Where can I get more?
4. Again with the Resin Hive Tyrant I've heard alot about moulds, spores, soup and toothbrushes? What's that all about?
5. I'm thinking of having the hive tyrant be able to convert to a swarmlord how would I do that?
6. The Tyrannofex seems like an interesting unit, how does one make it?
I think that's it for the moment.Last edited by Tychris1; 2011-07-07 at 10:24 PM.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
This. Seriously. Us Tau players have more flying bases than we can reasonably use.
In other news, I finished a test model for the generic Grey Knights colour scheme. Say hello to Brother Vale.
Working on the test model for the custom colour scheme now.
Still trying to get my camera to take decent pictures of my miniatures.
EDIT
1. Strip the paint first. Otherwise you end up building up too many layers of paint and it starts looking horrible.
2. Take a look at the Vampire Counts stuff for WHF. Use the same painting techniques they do. See if any local players might be willing to trade you some bitz.Last edited by Tome; 2011-07-08 at 10:57 AM.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
ok, my opinion on Finecast has just been downgraded from "eh, cool I guess" to 'RAAAAAGE"
Bought two packs of Wracks and apart from the fact that they are quite nice models they were a absolute bitch to assemble due to numerous misfills in the shoulder sockets. A few blades missed altogether as there was soo much flash. one of the sprues was in fact nothing but flash. quite annoying.
Most annoying thing: the slots don't fit into a standard slottabase. I actually had to go mental with a knife and file to thin them a bit. and no, unlike metal bases you can't force it as the material is too soft to push.

Re: The Warhammer Models Thread III: A Brush With Death
Depends on how thick the paint is really. I'd try respraying one model as a test.

The alternative is ebay and the like to look for official bitz, but they can be pricey as everyone wants a Swarmlord.
6. The Tyrannofex seems like an interesting unit, how does one make it?
He looks good overall, the swords and eye-glow came out well. Only criticism is the gold is rather flat. Personally I'd deepen the colour overall to contrast with the dominant silver more.
This isn't anything to do with the material - I've had metals from numerous manufacturers (including GW) with this problem.
For my own stuff, Liara's almost done (a few touchups and debating whether or not to try to give her her freckles) and Shep's got her armour base coated:
