Assuming it was just alcohol, nope. However, if it was something else, maybe.

And yeah, letting Celestia loose does sound like an interesting plot. Maybe that should be the next big thing?

Getting Celestia out actually sounds like a super-plot, something that will run long enough that multiple other plots are begun and completed during it. I've got a couple of thoughts on this if you'd like to PM me.

#1 and #2 are basically the same thing as far as storytelling goes, and i'd recommend one of those two for Celestia as it's easier for a character to become a good guy under those circumstances.

Please no. Using possession and mind control would make our poniess little better than the enemies our ponies are trying to defeat. That's if it would even work, which is unlikely since Celestia is an ungodly powerful Alicorn.

And yeah Orzel, I want to know who will be getting the possession/mind control or temporary insanity. Out of those three, I personally prefer the third. One and two squick me out for reasons I find hard to explain.

Losing control of your own brain seems a pretty legitimate phobia. The spiking in question was "order a coke" surprise! it's mostly rum!

I think the bookie in The Broncs is a throwaway mook, so I'm not going to make up an NPC character for him.

As long as it legitimately helped, then she would do it. If not, for future reference, she wouldn't have.

As for mind control, when it comes to me, it's a lot more than just a phobia. It's just...I seriously consider it one of the most monstrous things you could do to a person. Not "Crossing the moral event horizon" monstrous, but still pretty dang bad.

My personal take is that she was 'infected' with a persistent sliver of dark magic that warped her personality and emotions over the course of centuries until it gained enough strength to manifest as an alternate persona, Iron Hoof, and took complete control.

The dark magic itself was exorcised, but the personality warping remains. Celestia still has times when she displays personality traits that are definitely 'Iron Hoof'-ish.

The plot kicks of because she's come to realize that she no longer knows what parts of her personality are genuinely hers and which parts are a result of 'Iron Hoof's' influence and she desperately wants help to sort herself out.

Because Luna is tied up trying to keep Equestria's government from self-destructing, she can't help. Because Celestia's own followers are used to a firm chain of command, they might not question her if she did slip into 'Iron Hoof' mode and she can't risk the damage that might do. She needs somepony who isn't tied up in politics and isn't afraid to question her if she starts slipping.

So she contacts Soft, a paladin sworn to her sister Luna. Their conversation causes Soft to leave suddenly, with no explanation to anypony else, to start looking for something that can help.

Eventually, Soft's search would hit a metaphorical wall requiring her to return to town and ask for additional assistance.

That brings an interesting plot point to my mind. Why not have Icy's condition explained away as part of the shadowy group (Dark Forces, whatever) plan to poison Luna the same way? The effects are the same after all, just accelerated.

Her eyes start glowing an odd color and her voice changes. Death through the living, the flame has no living heart in the order of life. Your plan, a real shot in the dark, came a little, too late it's over. her eyes go back to normal and she falls on the table. Shen then proceeds to get up.
