Happy to have Godot claim cover from Xiulcoatl - a creature born with an affinity with flame probably isn't going to be instinctively dodging bolts of fire. Godot, can you confirm how many bolts actually hit you, and the damage taken?

Sthrer - can you fly, or do you need a lift?

In general, all spells need line of sight and line of effect unless the say otherwise. Magic missle specifies that it is blocked by total cover - (ie an object between you and the target), so it can't go around corners. It can hit a creature with total concealment (ie invisible), provided you know roughly where to aim (which square to aim it at).
In this case, I'll assume you're getting to the roof (somehow?) and then magic missling the winged man once you have a clear shot at him.

Sorry. Two of the three blasts hit Godot, for full damage, so she's currently at 89/137 HP.

And she is THRILLED to be ducking behind the fireproof head of Xiulcoatl. If cover is allowed from the first round's blasts, then she's only hit by one for 24 points.

A lift or Spider Climb spell would work.

Can I do a check to recognize grafts? If they're described to Sthrer she ought to have at least a chance of knowing.

You can read the results of Godot's knowledge checks on the main thread. In addition, you can tell that he's a sorceror, with some kind of ability to use metamagic quickly (it usually takes sorcerors a full-round action to use metamagic).

You've heard stories of a strange ritual to combine your own essence with that of a fiend (usually demon or devil). In one of them the magician gained the ability to shoot streams of fire from his eyes as a gaze attack.

You can read the results of Godot's knowledge checks on the main thread.

This may be someone who has undergone the Ritual of Bonding, an evil rite to combine your own essence with that of a fiend by literally flaying yourself alive and then replacing your skin with that of the fiend. It's very hard to find. The caster gains various minor abilities, powerful gaze attacks, and eventually becomes an outsider themselves, as their own essence is overcome by infernal power. It's a strictly voluntary thing, and one of the few ways a mortal can aspire to become a fiend while still alive.

You can see what has been described already - the winged man standing in a rent in the side of one of the horn towers, a huge invisible creature of some kind (blindsense doesn't give details). You're reasonably certain if there were more creatures out there, you'd have seen them

You'd recognise grafts. The wings are definite a graft, probably a fiendish graft. So wings taken from a living fiend and sewn to his back. Whatever he's been doing with his skin came afterwards. The hand, probably also a graft, although done later, after the skin was replaced and is rather better workmanship.

Godot, due to cover from Xiulcoatl you've been hit by only one bolt.

The steed can only be ridden by me, but can carry 200 pounds in addition to my weight; can I give Sthrer a lift so long as I'm riding and controlling it? (assuming she weighs less than 200 pounds) If so, I'll give her a lift, if not, I'll cast Mass Fly so she and Simon can get up to the roof.

I will likely cast Glitterdust on the invisible figure, as a standard action if I'm not doing Mass Fly, or a quickened spell (using Augmented Casting) if I need to cast Mass Fly as well. I just want to confirm the nature of the invisible creature first.

You mentioned I can't see details with Blindsense, but I do have See Invisibility active as well, so I read that spoilerblock, and rolled the Planes check above.

Right, you can give Sthrer a lift. Since it's just a short distance she can grab onto you, and you can carry her up to the edge of the roof. Totally impractical for long journies, and uncomfortable as heck, but you can make it. You have enough movement, and Sthrer is... surprisingly strong.

Sthrer, I'll leave you to describe what a few seconds of physical contact with Sthrer would feel like to Umbriel.

Sthrer arrives on the edge of the roof, and casts magic missle at the winged man. Roll for damage please.

Things that Umbriel likes to know on Knowledge checks, roughly in order:
    Spoiler
    Show
-Notable/defining special attacks and abilities. This is mostly things like the Bodak's death gaze, or the Efreet's Wish - unusual powers that the creature is particularly known for. However, she also particularly tries to note creatures that can unleash either Blasphemy/Holy Word/Word of Chaos or Antimagic Field, when she runs across them in her reading.
-Special qualities/immunities if any exist (e.g. immunity to force effects, polymorph, blinding, etc).
    -DR/regeneration and what bypasses it.
-SR (rough categories: Magic-Immune, Might As Well Be (above 40), Frustrating (30-40), Better Warn My Allies (20-29), Shouldn't Be A Problem (below 20).)
    -Energy resistances/immunities.
-Alignment if it's not obvious (mostly care about Law/Chaos axis; if she's already noted strong demonic/devilish associations, she'll just make assumptions here).

I have enough information already to go ahead with my action, though, so will do that now.

    Togo and Ifni:

I posted an action and initiative two weeks ago, but I think this is still the same round, or not? I did cast two defensive spells and then moved in order to be able to cast benign transposition at the next opportunity or when necessary (whichever comes first), so I assume I managed to reach part of the roof that is safe for Godot. I also did not draw my weapon in order to not provoke, but minor hell has broken loose 'around' my actions. So, this is what I make of it, let me know if I am wrong or out of line, Togo:

    Round 0:
As Derk (at initiative 12) plans for non-hostility, the contours of a combat manifest. He casts a quickened and a standard action defensive spell and then flies up to a point on the roof where he can see Godot and where Godot would be relatively safe. During this move action, he draws his weapon. He also makes a knowledge (the planes) check ((1d20+13)[20]) to see if he knows stuff about Glabrezus that might come in handy in a fight.

    Round 1:
It seems Godot is still feeling talking is an option and Derk trusts her, so he readies an action to cast benign transposition at the first sign of Godot in distress, or physical or magical power (spellcraft (1d20+8)[20]) directed at her.

Does this make sense, Togo? Am I right about the rounds and initiatives? If so I will move this to IC, or if not, adjust and move to IC.

    Nice, Togo.

One minor thingy, which does not really matter. Derk typically wields a heavy flail (he has a morphing metalline weapon, which is by default set to adamantine heavy flail). Again, it doesn't matter for now at all, but it might become relevant in the future, so I figured it be wise to point you to it.

...I checked it, it is just about safe to pound on a roof with such force with a blunt adamantine object

Sorry for the delay, real life is only now catching up for my week off sick. I should be able work out the full combat results , and your opponent's actions, tonight once I can get to my books.

Sthrer, Yes, you can add the +8 to hit and to damage. It gets added to 'weapon damage', which is more or less everything a PC would weild, but not spells. I'm happy to add it myself if needed.

You can also attack more than once in a round, if your BAB is 6 or more. I know sorcerors usually don't bother with that, but it is an option, and given the huge bonuses you get to hit, might well be worth trying.

Firing into a grapple, as Sthrer is attempting to do, carries a risk of hitting the wrong person. I've give you until tonight if you want to change the action, otherwise I'll roll the 50/50 myself. On the bright side, a gold dragon is probably harder to hit than a winged mutant, and will probably take less fire damage from the bow, so it may be a risk worth taking.

On a different subject, Grappling does indeed provoke an attack of opportunity, unless you have the improved grapple feat or are using the improved grab ability. If that AOO is sucessful, it can then negate the grapple attempt.

Which may be why he has armed himself with a claw....

Also Sthrer is Hasted, so +1 to hit and an extra attack at full bonus.

Oh boy, this is getting hard to keep track of. Does that mean I have three attacks?

That's exactly it - two attacks at your full attack bonus, one attack at 5 lower than your full attack bonus (factoring in +9 from haste and the bard effect).
Currently climbing out of a heckofa two weeks at work/RL. Now working to catch up. Thanks for your patience.

Try keeping track of Rhion's attacks for a round, for a change.

Ak, no internet last night. Apologies.

Sorry also about the multiple postings - I'm having some problems with the boards. I've now deleted the extra versions.

The concentration check also messed up - rerolling here concentration (1d20)[17] -as before he only fails on a one.

(Rhion can you give me some indication of what form you're in the post that you put your attacks in? It helps if I don't have to backtrack to find it.)

    Everyone may now act again.

Oh, seems I referenced it to the earlier battles without elaborating, sorry. It's Dire Lion form, with added wings thanks to the Eagle's Wings feat.
