Who is the next most injured person, anyway? And are you counting damage done or HP left?

ETA: She's still about half down, even with the healing.

Besides the negative level, Xiulcoatl is fully healed. That does mean, however, he is -5hp from max, has a -1 to hit, etc.

Anyone have a spell to fix that?

I thought all negative levels were restored upon the creature's death?

Yep, it was an aura effect producing the effects of negative levels, without actually delivering them.

All negative level effects have gone away now that the creature is dead.

I believe that spells lost are still lost though, unless someone corrects me?

If this is the LM atropal scion, then I do not see why the spells would be gone, per se.

Living creatures in the aura are treated as having two negative levels unless they have some sort of negative energy protection or protection from evil.
It's a bit of a weird call either way, though, since this is a weird aura. One might say we had a penalty on attacks and saves etc., which is now gone and that we lost some spells which cannot be 'unlost'. On the other hand one might also argue that the spell loss was as temporary as the rest.

Let me know if you will stand by the decision (which I tink is as plausible as not doing so), because that kind of affects my spells per day .

Normally, negative levels only take away one spell or spell slot, so losing an entire level of spells was a major difference with this aura. If you want to ret-con the aura to be like normal energy drain, then yes, we'd lose those spell slots until they're regained through rest, but then, we'd also have had those levels of spells available for use in the fight. It would of course be to our advantage to have the spells available to us again, so it's hard to be objective as to the most desirable course of action.

I think we only lost our two highest level spells, as per level drain, no?

The key here lies in 'is treated as if having gained two negative levels'. We never actually got two negative levels. Anywho, it is a weird thing and a DM's call. But of course his official job is trying to kill us, so Togo can't be called objective either .

In all honest objectivity, my first thought was that we would regain them, but I can see why one would judge otherwise.

That's what I put on the IC list. Two levels of spells would be far too nasty.

Meh, the way I read it, you gain two levels, only it's more temporary than normal. You still suffer the same penalties, and you still die and turn into a wight if they exceed your hit dice. You don't get lost spell slots/ spells memorised back when you make your save and recover from negative levels, so I don't see why this would be different. (Obviously, for spontaneous casters, you get your spells known back. )

That's my take on it. Any strong opinions otherwise?

Ah, that's my problem. I mentally transposed "two highest level spells" to "two highest spell levels". Doh!

Your interpretation makes sense to me, Togo.

Nah, I can live with that!

Edit: This is what my spells per day look like now. Not problematic yet, but I am guessing Togo will manage to drain a sorcerer out of most his (higher level) spells per day at the end of the day. Which is actually a good thing, and is also due to the fact that Derk tends to be a 'big spender' when it comes to magical energy (in combat):

    Level_cast/per day

    0_0/5
    1_2/7
    2_0/12
    3_2/6
    4_4/6

I didn't think spontaneous casters lost spells-known when they took negative levels - am I misunderstanding?

On the question to hand, I think it's clear that prep-casters don't get the spells-prepared back. I've seen variation on the question of whether the slots come back as empty (so they can be filled) or as expended, and similarly on whether spontcasters get their slots back. I have no problem with your ruling, Togo.

Aye, let's raise arms and wipe that smirk of his face!

Seriously though, I hope I did not screw the latest situation up, but if you want to go about and sneak around with Derk you had better tell him what to do precisely. Otherwise this happens. It might turn out just fine, but please remember he is just a mithril clad block of hit points with a military backround and a few funky sorcerer spells.

In all honesty, I am loving his blunt way of making sure he is in harm's way and getting away with it. Boy, does he deserve to die . But if you feel he ought to adapt, be less influencing/decisive/dominant in battle or whatever please do tell him. He will listen .

Certainly no problem. Rhion is no tactical genius himself, so interpret whatever he said as it would fit yourself the best. And he himself is compliant to advices in that sense, so, yeah.
