    Day 3 Ends

Tydude opened the door to his humble domicile and saw a messenger with a scroll in his hand.

Hmmm…. thought Tydude. This could be interesting...

Tydude arrived at the Spire and was escorted to a large chamber where in the rest of the City had also gathered by way of similar invitation. To Tydude's surprise, some of the other major Lords were there.

Lord Chiruto pointed at Tydude, "He is the ninja leader and responsible for slaying the former Ruler of the Spires. My assassin located him."

    "Wait. What?!"

Guards surrounded Tydude. Villagers turned his way. The other nobles began to murmur agreement. Tydude got that sinking feeling in his gut that he wasn't going to make it out alive or in one piece.

"But that preposterous. Your assassin wasn't anywhere near me last night!"

"And how," asked Lord Chiruto, "would you know that?"

A knife hand to the throat sent the first guard staggering. The second guard had his legs swept from beneath him. Tydude managed to take swords from the next two and was wielding them in both hands when he felt the prick of something in his neck. Looking over, he caught a glimpse of someone disappearing into the crowd. Lucky shot, thought Tydude.

I'd just like to be precise: my faction was lucky, and effective in exploiting that luck. If anyone else now cares to join their luck to ours, feel free to contact me to negotiate terms of cooperation. There is no requirement that you declare loyalty publicly. Our win-wagon can support any number of villagers.

(And good game to Tydude. Certainly he had insanely bad luck, getting lynched so early through literally no fault of his own.)

    Xan looked around. Let's see.
Xan sat up and stretched *crack-crack-crack*. It was time to close up shop. "Plenty of people buying firecrackers today…" Xan walked to the front of the store and changed the sign to "CLOSED". "But it's not like the succession has been settled yet." The door opened. Xan put on a smile and looked over, "I'm closing up, but if you need something I can get it for you."

Xan's smile faded. "You ought to be careful with a costume like that. People might get the wrong idea."

"My Apologies on behalf of Lord Chiruto, Xanmyral." The person exited.

"Well, that was weird…" *locks door* "Now where was I? Oh yes. Inventory." *smells smoke* *looks around* *crackle, snap, boom*

I mean to rule the Earth, as he the sky
We really know our worth, the sun and I

The day after the lynching party that brought down the Master Ninja is a day of actual celebration at House Chiruto. The heiress apparent and her sisters are entertaining the carefully selected company of attending nobles with their father's favourite songs about songs about proper, noble ambition. This is an especially joyous occasion for them, and for the rest of Lord Chiruto's family, as it is the first time in weeks that it has been judged safe for them to step outside the the sections of the house Chiruto had had converted into "Gilded Cage potential hostage containment chambers" when the troubles began. After a while, one tires of reinforced steel, dull food and the seeing the same servants over and over.

This is a pleasant occasion, too, for people in the street sympathetic to Chiruto's cause. The party offers them good food and first-rate entertainment. Spirits are high, and spirits are on the house. But above all, people know that with the ninja off the street, there is no longer any reason to fear senseless violence and unnecessary bloodshed.

If all goes according to Lord Chiruto's plans, however, the day might end up being especially unpleasant for Lord Low-Key. For there is such a thing as sensible violence and necessary bloodshed, and on their way out, the partygoers will be handed complimentary torches and pitchforks, as well as helpful political pamphlets explaining why some claims to the throne are more equally legitimate than others.

(OOC logic: unassociated villagers, let's talk math. All else being equal (which I'm eager to point out it is actually not), if you start building a relationship with a noble house now, your probability of choosing the right one is 1/3. On the other hand, if you first eliminate one house and then make your choice, the next day your probability of picking the right house out of a hat has gone up to 50%. If you wait and do nothing, you risk being killed off randomly.)

The discovery of the Master Ninja had not gone unnoticed. Everything else considered, it made Lord Chiruto look like a very favorable candidate to rally behind. Besides, the Lord Low-Key was old and liable to die soon, with or without the assistance of a lynch mob. Ajadea slipped a little sharp knife into her belt. If worst came to worst, she would grant the venerable Lord a swift and merciful death.

The Ninja hunter was not pleased. He had been hunting the master ninja for weeks, and had been about to capture him and claim his bounty when some imbecile with a blowdart had killed the guy! What kind of a Low quality ninja goes down so easily?

Grumbling, the Hunter made his way to the bounty boards to search for another job. He needed cash, and fast. As he made his way home, he fumbled with the Keys, already so distracted by the new bounty he had picked up that he couldn't think straight.

He could hear the celebrations of the people after the ninja master had been brought Low. There was cheering and off Key singing and some people were setting off "small" fireworks. He could smell the scents of food wafting up and some of his crows even came to roost somehow carrying an entire ham. "Mmmm. Thank you my pets." he said, as he cut up the ham. Half for himself and the rest for the birds. It wasn't long before so many crows were in his chambers that he could barely hear the festivities over their squawking. After they'd had their meal he sent them back out to watch the city. Despite the jovial state of the moment no doubt there would be more blood shed as the nobles moved against each other.

Lord Tiger was receiving petitions from his subjects as he usually did in the mornings when one of his advisers told him about lord Chirutos actions against lord Low-Key. That was interesting thought the young lord.

"Make a public declaration. House Fang will align itself on this matter with house Chiruto. After all we do share one thing in common... that we are not lord Low-Key."

Banjuro again tilled the fields outside the city of spires, trying not to think about all the madness and death stalking the high walls and parapets of the noble quarter.

"Noble Tilt, Noble Low-Key, Noble TigerFang, all are the same. All will bring us to ruin, and send us peasants to our deaths. The assassins have stayed within the nobles halls in the main, but they will bloody their daggers in the common streets soon enough."

Banjuro sighs and shakes his head. Even the methodical peaceful work of farming cannot calm him today. Too much worry, and too much death. Even his crop appeared to be failing.

    It was an ill omen.

Blasc's stocks were getting low, and so rather than make more unneeded potions, he settled for going outside to watch the show. After being handed a complementry pitchfork, there wasn't really much else for him to do out there, and after doing a bit more waving, he once again retired to his shop.

Let the others go on a rampage after Lord Low-Key. He would sit and sleep it off.

    Day 4 Ends

A humid haze lay over a City astir with torches and pitchforks. Many of the people of the City took cover in their homes as the drunken rabble wandered through the streets chanting for Low-Key's blood. The Night Guard was severely tasked to keep order when looting started in the center of the City. Violence broke out between the outspoken mob and guards loyal to Lord Low-Key.

High in his Spire, Lord Low-Key sat in consultation with his astrologers and numerologists.
"Well, you see, my Lord, the stars indicate a plot on the part of those of Ti-."
"But the chart for the City of Spires indicates death from those of Ty-."
"Yes, the master ninja is of Ty-, not Ti-."
"But now that the master ninja is dead, my life should no longer be in danger, yes?"
"Well, the stars still indicate that you are in grave danger from those whose are of Ti-."
"The stars show Ti- opposing Low-."
"And your birth chart indicates trouble tonight."
"When we do a comparison of your natal chart to the location chart for City of Spires, well…"
    *gasp*
"I see." Lord Low-Key rose, "You have done well. Prediction is a difficult and lengthy affair. Would that this news had come to me sooner."
"Perhaps, if the City was renamed, your aspect would improve..."
Lord Low-Key held up a hand, "It is far too late for that. Although I fear what may become of the City once it falls into the hands of Ti-, a wise Ruler knows when he is beat."

The majordomo bustled into the room, "My Lord. I have grave news. Lord Chiruto has thrown a celebration to stir the people against you, he has the support of Lord Tiger, and… and he's handing out torches and pitchforks my Lord!"
    "Torches"
    "and Pitchforks"
    "and Mobs"
    "Oh my!"

Lord Low-Key held up another hand, "I have lived a long life because of my attention to the subtle influences of the cosmos. I once hoped that the Spires would unify under my rule. I see now that it was not my fate."

"What are you going to do my Lord?"

"Retire. I shall renounce my claim, saddle a steed, and depart the City of Spires."

"But my Lord, the stars do not bode well for the City or your House in your absence!"
"And what would you have me do? Stay and face the lynch mob? Let them string me up like some common criminal! Where is the honor in that?"
"We could hole up in the Spire. Fend them off. It will be some time before they can break through."
"And how shall we eat? Someone has been buying up the food in the City and our supplies are low. We are not prepared for a siege."
    *silence*
    "Saddle my horse."

Lord Low-Key fled the drunken masses. He retired to a location favorable to his natal chart.

    Night 4 Ends
A large slide had been attached from about midway up one of the Spires down. A young bald boy with tatoos was racing down the slide at break neck speed in a stone cart, when his cart suddenly launched off the slide and unto the rooftops of buildings below. After tearing up several roofs with the stone cart, the boy launched through the air and collided with a large cabbage cart.

    Banjuro: "My cabbages!"
    Young Boy: "Uh, sorry sir."

Those cabbages had been the entirety of Banjuro's crop. The rest had failed mysteriously in the field. Banjuro loved cabbage more than anything else in the world, "That's it. I'm leaving the City of Spires!"

A cloaked figure watched from the shadows of a nearby ally. It had been hard work sneaking into the fields to sabotage the crop every night, "Lord Chiruto will be pleased."

Of course, that isn't the end of the story. Banjuro travelled the world and saw sights and sounds you wouldn't believe - elephant fish and butterfly horses. He learned exotic instruments such as the banjo and the maraca and and how to play both with one hand… But, no matter where Banjuro went, no matter where he tried to grow and sell cabbage, the young boy with tatoos would mysteriously show up and wreck his cabbage cart. This happened 1985 times until Banjuro, resigned to his fate, stopped growing cabbages and starting making banjos. He was transporting some banjos to the City of Spires when the tatooed boy showed up again and wrecked his banjos. And that's where the sad tale of Banjuro and the Tatooed Boy ends.

    Summary:

With his cabbage crop destroyed, banjo1985 decided to leave the City of Spires. The crop was sabotaged by Tilt's assassin.

A town crier brings the latest word from the Chiruto noble house to the streets. "The House Chiruto Committee on Un-Spiral Activities has determined that EagleWiz, long a loyal servant to the late Lord Low-Key, has now turned to the ways of the ninja. He must be considered an enemy of all honourable citizens, and House Chiruto expects the support of all such, noble or not, in hunting him down."

Walking only a few paces behind the crier, a Chiruto-franchised dealer in torches and pitchforks is happy to supply his wares to any ninja-hunters who have somehow managed to get through the last few days without these items.

(OOC logic: We have previously scried EagleWiz as loyal to Low-Key, so we know that he's now a ninja, and as such an enemy of both remaining factions as well as all the townsfolk.)

Lord Tiger was just starting his day with a luxurious breakfast when one of his informants entered the room:
"Lord Chirutos assassin has murdered another innocent at his orders my liege."

"Yes I have heard this already." said the young lord with an angry look on his face.
"Wh... What? How? Err nevermind my lord I have other news. He is now accusing a man of being a ninja... but there have been no other night kills my lord."
"Tell me something I don't know... instead of boring me with things everyone in this town knows how about you call my most loyal servants and make arrangements as I wish to hold a public speech in a few hours." said lord Tiger downright annoyed with his useless servant.
At once my Lord, I'm sorry my Lord. and with that he left to do his lords bidding.

A few hours later Lord Tiger was addressing the masses:
"Fellow citizens... Good people of the City of Spires... Lord Chiruto is attempting to manipulate you with fear and despair. EagleWiz cannot be a ninja... There are no more ninja.. Why? There have been no more night kills ever since the master ninja has died and he clearly had no other followers... With no ninja to recruit new ninja it means that all that where former loyal followers of lord Low-Key are now just normal innocent villagers. No more a ninja then myself.

On the other hand Lord Chiruto has assassinated many innocents through his loyal men creating chaos and confusion. If this goes on many more innocents will die without a reason. Help me end this today. End this mad tyrants reign today!"

[OOC]I obviously vote for Tilt Also this is a call for what loyal followers lord Low-Key still has and any villager that doesnt want to get night killed by Tilts assassin to help me end this.[/OOC]

Overhearing the various proclamations through a crystal ball, the wizard Ramsus wondered at what Lord TigerFang was playing at. It was well known that those loyal to a fallen house oft became dangerous to the citizenry in their pursuit of vengeance. He spend the next hour laying a curse upon EagleWiz. He would find no shadows to hide in. No doors or windows unlocked to escape through. No dangling ropes or easily scaled walls to climb.

(TigerFang, that was a pretty bad move. Villagers care more about Ninja being dead than which noble wins. Tilt's already now (if correct in his scry which I don't see any reason to doubt here) found us two Ninja and you're...pushing to kill him so that those of us not part of your entourage have a lower chance of winning.)

I would first like to state that I am NOT a ninja. Tilt wants me dead for other reasons. Perhaps I follow TigerFang. Perhaps I know who some of his followers are. Either way, I stand in the way of his ambitions. Help me overthrow Tilt. It isn't just the right thing to do, it's also the smart thing.Tilt has both the motive and the oppertunity to kill everyone who isn't one of his loyal followers to ensure his rule unless stoped. For this reason I vote to kill Tilt

Also, I declare loyalty to lord TigerFang who will (hopefully) be the only living lord at the end of this day.

"My lord, my lord!" Lord Chiruto is awakened (he slept in late after seeing to that town crier last night) by a shouting servant, rather more rudely than he prefers. "There are enemies at the gate!"

Lord Chiruto shambles out on the balcony, still in his night clothes. He reaches for the slitted tower shield through which he usually surveys enemy forces, but seeing the enemy forces in passing he abandons the idea as unnecessary. "Ko-Ko, my faithful servant. There are two enemies at the gate. One is Lord TigerFang. The other is Lord Low-Key's disgraced retainer. Two angry men does not a lynch mob make. If you would just call for the serving-maid, we would outnumber them."

"My lord.." Ko-Ko looks baffled, but upon looking over the "mob" again, even he loses his panicking enthusiasm. "Well, aren't you worried that more might turn up?"

"More ninjas and followers, perhaps, unless they stop to think about how that will look in the morning. If they don't, that's their funeral -- there aren't nearly enough of them to threaten me. As for honest folk, there is not one single reason for them to side with him over me. We have demonstrated strength, Ko-Ko, plainly, for all to see. That's what this horrid business of executing random villagers every night is all about. The people know that they will need that strength in the struggle that's yet to come."

"I trust that before long, a larger mob than this will have gathered to lynch Lord TigerFang, for advocating a move so suicidal for the City."

(OOC: RP later, but this sort of forces a response quickly. (RP added with edit.) We'll deal with EagleWiz later, this must be resolved today. I ask everyone to vote TigerFang. You might also want to claim loyalty to me in blue, there's no reason to not claim loyalty to someone at this point.

Cold hard logical reasons to claim loyalty to me rather than TigerFang:
    • I have an active assassin. It seems pretty clear that TigerFang does not. This makes me more effective, but also: if a noble with an active assassin is lynched, that assassin will turn ninja and continue night-killing.
    • Beyond that, assuming you trust my word: my entire team of loyal followers is intact.
    • I'm in contact with the healer.
    • I'm in contact with enough villagers that, unless an unreasonable number of people betray me at the last minute, we will win this vote.
    • If the carrot doesn't convince you, here's a stick: I will urge my assassin to night-kill a random villager who voted for someone who is not TigerFang for lynch tonight. (So change your votes away from EagleWiz.) Even if I die this is a reasonable request to follow, as I assume that if anyone remains on the Tilt-lynching wagon it will be all the remaining loyal followers. TigerFang cannot reasonably make this threat, as he seems to have no assassin.

Remember that there's still a battle with the ninja to be fought after there's only one noble left -- you want to choose a faction that is ready for that fight, otherwise the ninja will win.)
