Perhaps the DM just found audio of an explosion and played that instead of making the sound effect him/herself.

Not confirmed, but I think we can lay 90+ odds on it being a guy, because they group was surprised to find Annie was a good addition to the group as a girl.

Catch 22 involves a fair bit of black market dealing, which could be fencing with a slightly different use of the term... but yeah I don't think that's it.

The problem is finding a story 1) that has fencing and 2) that has pilots that 3) can be rendered "Shell-shocked" by trauma. and maybe 4) was adapted into a movie at some point. (if we keep the trend going)

I actually got Princess Bride from it, from fencing, miracles, and reluctant doctor. Not quite sure how pilots fits that though.

Except that Princess Bride presumably doesn't exist in universe (it having been one of the games run offpanel) so it doesn't make sense for them to be quoting it unless it's actually a description of the game.

It is a description of the game, but the game they are describing isn't The Princess Bride.

I'm stumped too, really, so I'm just going to appreciate how good these guys are at matching character expressions to player tone of voice.
