Re: Let's Play GenGame
Well, it's a starting point.
Plus, it'd be kind of funny: a character who cares only about optimization, and a character who gets way too much into character.
On a more serious note, I've decided not to go through the comic looking for typos at this time, as I'm busy with the indexing.
Oh, and I gave Caddybear's commands a color matching his speech color, since every character so far with a speech color has had colored commands.
And Index is now up to 300. MG is on the train. I repeat, MG is on the train.Last edited by thereaper; 2011-10-05 at 09:42 PM.

Say, it occured to me...
Before we made it into pirates IN SPAAAACE!, was "Showdown in Generic Place" meant to be a western?Demilich avatar by Smuchmuch. Thank you VERY much!

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Ah, thanks for catching that, I'd forgotten. CB doesn't talk much.
It wasn't really "supposed" to be, because I don't really think about it that way. That is, with Showdown I don't ever know a lot about what's going to happen until you guys make commands. The name was western-inspired, however. I actually wanted to call it, "The Generic, The Generic, and The Generic," but I thought that joke was too much of a stretch. I never really thought it would be a western, though.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
I actually ended up having to utilize Firefox's "view source" feature to find out Caddybear's text color (darkslateblue, for the curious).
And the index is at 350.
Edit: So, I've noticed something odd in my test html (the one I make when I'm testing to see if the indexes I'm making look right). Normally, all the commands have blue underlines, but for some reason the underline for strip 109 is sea green (same as the command). I don't see any differences in the code between it and the other ones, so I have no idea why it's behaving in such a way. In any case, depending on how you end up incorporating the links, it may or may not end up even being an issue. I just figured I'd mention it, though.Last edited by thereaper; 2011-10-07 at 02:49 AM.

That's because 109 was missing a closing > behind the href number. I corrected that one now.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
So, I realized something at work today.
Inept Informer is an awesome genre!
Think about what BH was able to do when she used it. She completely vanished from the field of battle and was able to travel to some far away place instantly to give information to someone.
Think of the exploitation potential!
The next time BH is in a dangerous situation, she can just go "Uh oh, I need a way out of this one...Oh, I know! I'll just switch to Inept Informer and go inform some random person of something until the threat passes!"Wolfen Houndog - The World in Revolt (4e)

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Think about who she informed about what, though
But that's an awesome exploit, yes. Probably the best reason to ever use it. There are other genres with similar abilities, with less downsides, but it's a lot harder to get those genres. It's actually hard to get Inept Informer, but the other genres with similar abilities are harder to get.
Informal Informationalist, for example. Three spies will get Inept Informer to every Informal Informationalist. But consider that Informal Informationalist gets information to your team-mates...Demilich avatar by Smuchmuch. Thank you VERY much!

and i'm pretty sure once you've got one II the other II is impossible to get, just because telling the difference between II and II on the genre grid is too difficult.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Another thing that's crossed my mind is: how old are these characters supposed to be? They don't strike me as being 30+, but they're definitely not kids (judging from MG's...physique). But 13-29 is still a pretty wide range.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Drawing caddybear doing a little trick, but should he be doing it with the unlit scared sword of the bearcolites or with his little caddy/golf/sword bag? got both done right now, so just a question of wich one to use.
as for age, i would probably say somewhere between 16 and 19, don't seem like the type old enough to buy beer or gamble or anything.
Well for our team anywas, the other team do strike me as older, or at the very least a little more mature. For the other team i would say somewhere around 17 and 23.Last edited by Draconi Redfir; 2011-10-08 at 09:18 AM.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Eh, JH strikes me as being a bit younger (mainly due to his contrarian nature and obsession with looking cool). I can't tell what age SD is (she seems to intentionally take the childishness over the edge). KB is probably older, though. For some reason, I keep thinking of him to be in his early twenties.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Code breaks on the index for strip 425. Fortunately, the reason is obvious: that one has two colors in the command, and my attempt at making it work breaks the code. I'll leave it to you to figure out, AJ (since that seems to be the trend: I do the simple grunt work in the indexing, and you fix the stuff I screw up ).

Re: Let's Play GenGame
That one's actually a pretty easy fix:
<span style="color: blue;"><p style="text-align: left;">425> <strong><a title="BH: Return faceplate with EXTREME Prejudice" href="?p=3733"><span style="color: blue;">BH: Return faceplate with <span style="color: red;">EXTREME</span> Prejudice</span></a></strong></p></span>
The stuff I bolded is the "title" of the link, a.k.a. what pops up when you mouse over it. Putting tags there breaks the code. As far as I know, you can't change the text style/color of that text. What I underlined is what the actual link shows up as, which is where you put the tags to change the look of it.
Also: Holy crap you've done a lot of work!

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Ok, so I had the right idea, I just shouldn't have done that for the title as well as for the other part.
Well, I've never had the chance to do this kind of stuff for a comic before (to actually help it in the early stages and such). That's why I started the indexing in the first place. So I try to help wherever I can.Last edited by thereaper; 2011-10-10 at 03:05 AM.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Huh. I'm not sure how I missed this my first time reading through.
http://wildwestscifi.net/?p=3936
The link at the top to go to the next comic actually takes you to the previous comic. The other one works, though.
Edit: Also, this one has commands of "" (that is, nothing) and commands of "SM: You don’t have time for this CONVERSATION or this BOSS! You need to get the SACRED FLAMES back pronto, or else this WHOLE TRIP is a wash!" listed on the previous page.
Which one should I go with for the indexing?Last edited by thereaper; 2011-10-11 at 07:32 PM.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Yeah. A couple more days like this and it should be up to date.
Trivia: The Shift is the 475th strip, and is one of the rare cases (actually, the only case I can think of) where the href number only increases by 1.
Edit: And wouldn't you know it, the next strip does too.Last edited by thereaper; 2011-10-11 at 08:17 PM.

Re: Let's Play GenGame
Getting there.
Incidentally, we added a antispam plugin, since apparently spambots have now found the site, filling the queue with random (badly spelled) crap.
Make sure to tell is if this is causing issues of sorts for you.
(I'm saying this because we had a pretty low amount of commands in the last two days. I'm kinda worrying that the plugin is somehow interfering with people's ability to post comments. Or maybe the updates just don't give anything to comment on. Which would be even worse. >_>)
