I think what he means is that it's unusual phrasing- unless it's a 1 or a 20, one doesn't usually say 'natural'.

    ...That's...

There is no reason to presume Durkon thinks there are only two natural, and 18 unnatural, numbers on a d20. This is a mode of thought I have not encountered before today and which makes very little sense to me. Vaarsuvius rolled a 2. Durkon either does not know what the result after all modifiers was or chose to mention the rolled number instead. Vaarsuvius rolled badly, and Vaarsuvius did not successfully dispel.

On the internets, misunderstandings are a common but sticky sort of glue that can bind long conversations together!

Perhaps I should have used "noticeable" rather than "serious" - Mr. Scruffy did noticeable damage to his targets, but whether it was light or serious damage depends on definitions and is hard to tell anyway. I was pleased to see him being effective in combat!

I just noticed that the control group in 545 has only six members. This might not affect the statistical validity of the experiment, but it's rather sloppy of Redcloak. Perhaps the size of the tower tops limited the total number of sacrificial victims?

I propose that the two hobgoblins closest to the edge of the tower are also part of the control group. Since Redcloak, as of that strip, actually cared for the hobgoblins as people, I would guess that those particular hobgoblins had been convicted of capital crimes, such as Aiding the Resistance.

This is the Things You Never Noticed thread, man. That's like going into a Video Games You Found Hard thread and saying "You're wrong, those were easy."

Anyway, I completely missed all the gouda stuff. I had no idea that was a running gag going on.

I think there’s a bit of a Fan Myopia thing going on. A fair number of people did notice the gouda thing and discussed it in certain threads. Since it was discussed on these boards, it is easy to think everyone here should already know about them.

Of course, then, you have to realize that very few people can read absolutely every post on this board…

Anyway, I will say that I would have missed the gouda thing if not for prior discussion—either on these boards or on TV Tropes, I can’t remember which first directed me to the original strips.

The reason that "Natural 1" and "Natural 20" are used so much is because there are special rules for rolling that number on the dice, and not for any of the other numbers.

Also, Vaarsuvius may have had so many bonuses that "I can dispell on anything but a 2." So of course he rolls a 2.

In strip 428, second page, one can see the text "swooosh" allready in panel four. It is hard to see, almost invisible, but placed over the heads of Hinjo and Roy.

Durkon says Roy and Julia have the same eyes. However, Roy and Julia's eyes are mirrored. It's most noticeable in panel 7 of #364.

It's just weird because you'd expect a line like that to be one of OOTS's many self-referential art jokes.
