Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
R is for Red Sonja.
Queen Gedren (Sandahl Bergman) has stolen a glowing green orb called only the Talisman, slaughtering the warrior priestesses that protected it.
Now it is up to Red Sonja (Brigitte Nielsen) to not only find the Talisman and destroy it, but get vengeance for the slaughter of her family at the hands of the evil queen.
As with any good fantasy movie, Red Sonja finds companions to join her in her quest: Tarn (Ernie Reyes Jr.), the Prince of Hablok; his loyal servant, Falkon (Paul Smith), and Kalidor (Arnold Schwarzenegger), from what I've read, basically Conan, but with a name change for some reason. Strange.
At the beginning of the movie, Sonja and her family are punished for committing a crime against Queen Gedren. What was the crime?

Indeed. As a 14 year old boy when this came out, I was decidedly the target audience.

Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
Hmmmm...unfortunatly (and perhaps surprisingly) this is a movie I haven't seen. However I do recall the plot...and it was definitly 'target audience', as the Queen had...designs...on Red Sonja's honor, which she took violent exception to.
The Queen, of course, Was Not Amused, and thus, the criminal charges!Last edited by The Bushranger; 2012-04-03 at 05:17 PM.

Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
"Remember, remember the fifth of November,
the gunpowder treason and plot.
I know of no reason why the gunpowder
treason should ever be forgot."
V for Vendetta. The 2006 movie based on the Vertigo comic book.
In the near future, war breaks out in America, somehow spreading across the ocean to England. Due to fear, England falls under the rule of a dictatorship, lead by Chancellor Adam Sutler (John Hurt).
On the Fifth of November, the Old Bailey (I think it's a courthouse) is blown up to the music of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. And chaos begins to take hold. Later in the day, V (Hugo Weaving) promises that a year later, he'll finish what Guy Fawkes set out to do.
During the movie, Evey (Natalie Portman) is captured by the Fingermen, blackbagged (as they call it), and taken to a detention center for questioning. After days or weeks of turture and interrogation, the woman in the cell next to hers passes her a letter written on toilet paper. In the letter, she tells her life story, her name is Valerie (Natasha Wrightman).
The question is, what is the name of Valerie's love when she tells her parents that she's a lesbian?

Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
Wow. I was expecting a question about some old camp movie that I've never heard of rather than a fairly recent one that I've actually seen.
I remember this scene for a couple reasons. One, they way they handled this bit of exposition about the world was a complete non-sequitur. I felt that it would have been better during the introduction rather than as an interruption in Evey's story. Two, I was waiting for Natalie Portman to reappear onscreen. Three, the person in question shared a name with the leading female role of Phantom of the Opera. Thus, her name was Christine.

Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
Well, now we have a point of debate.
In the movie, twas said thusly, "In 2002 I fell in love with a girl named Christina. That year I came out to my parents. I couldn’t have done it without Chris holding my hand." ref here
In which case I must disagree.
In the comics, it was written thusly, "In 1976 I stopped pretending and took a girl called Christine home to meet my parents. A week later I enrolled at drama college. My mother said I broke her heart." ref here
In which case I would have to agree.
However, since every question has been about a movie, then I must go with the movie, and I must therefore disagree with Mangosta.Catatar made for me many years ago ... pretty sure by banjo1985

Somehow I knew I shouldn't ask a question about V for Vendetta. But as I don't have any other V movies I hadn't already used (Vibes and V. I. Warsawski), I had little choice.

Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
And to finish off my little movie trivia segment.....
We need 2 new Contestants and 9 new Squares.
It has been pointed out to me that posting to be on the waiting list may discourage new players from joining. So I ask that the Current Squares and Contestants wait 24 hours before posting their interest to be in the next game. Thank you.

Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
I'd offer to be a square, except for the small problem of knowing nothing about movies. And I assume using Wikipedia is frowned upon.
So, I'm going to have to decline.
I've changed my mind. I shall participate.
Woe to those who expect me to know things though.Last edited by Elemental; 2012-04-05 at 11:35 PM.
