Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
Bladescape, K is for A Knight's Tale, one of my most favorite movies of ALL time!
I remember fondly watching it for the first time, not knowing what to expect, and then fearing the worse when We Will Rock You began playing. Please, don't get me wrong. I love Queen. Queen is my favorite rock group. EVER!
But when I heard the distinctive *Thump, Thump, Crash* beat, I feared this would be a silly movie. Thankfully, my fear was soon relieved, and the movie stole my heart.
At the first tournament after a lengthy training montage, after freeing Chaucer from the loan sharks, he gives a rousing introduction for our knight.
In it he describes his first meeting with Sir Ulrich von Lichtenstein in Jerusalem; praying forgiveness for the spilled Saracen blood, and then to Italy; where he protected a fatherless virgin from her lustful and vile Turkish uncle.
So, where was it that Sir Ulrich found himself spending a year in silence, to better understand the sound of a whisper?

Oh, that movie is definitely on my top ten list.
I actually had the same reaction the first time I heard the audience doing the stomp-stomp-clap and almost stopped watching right then.Want to meet some of the most awesome people on the internet? Come to the Baltimore/DC Area RenFest Meetup 2012!

Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
A knight's Tale. Goodness, I must be old, I can hardly remember much about that. Either that or it didn't stick in my memory, but since these good folk assure me it was a brilliant movie, I'll probably put it with Hoodwinked under 'things I haven't rewatched in far too long'.
But anyways, I distract myself. Sir Ulrich, where did he spend a year in silence to better understand the sound of a whisper? Why, it was in Greece, of course!"Trust bladescape, Shadow of Doubt,"

I'm gonna disagree, because I have no idea what this film is about.

Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
TheCountAlucard, Just One of the Guys is about a girl, Terry (Joyce Hyser), who has everything. A cute college boyfriend, rich parents, an annoying brother named Buddy . But she wants to be a journalist.
So after her story on Cafeteria Food is deemed not good enough to be entered into a contest at the Sun Tribune, Terry decides to go undercover at Sturgis-Wilder High as, you guessed it, a boy.
During her second day, Sandy (Sherilyn Fenn) is checking out Terry (in drag) in the cafeteria. How does she describeherhim?

Ah, great, another movie I haven't seen... okay, a quick check with Google confirms that the answer is, "Dresses like Elvis Costello, looks like Ralph Macchio."

But, to be fair, Ralph Macchio played the Karate Kid.

Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
Eight years before Johnny Depp sailed the Caribbean as Captain Jack Sparrow, Geena Davis hunted for treasure as Captain Morgan Adams in the movie Cutthroat Island.
Capt. Adams and her men are looking for the treasure of a Spanish Goldship that her grandfather buried. But the treasure map is split into three pieces.
The first is given to her by her father, Captain Black Harry (Harris Yulin), along with his ship, the Morningstar. To retrieve it, she has to shave his head, then scalp him. What a lovely gift to give your daughter.
With the help of her recently purchased slave, William Shaw (Matthew Modine), she retrieves the second piece from her uncle, Mordachai Fingers (George Murcell). He had it burned into a piece of wood, on the bottom of a wine cask.
The third piece is held by Captain Douglas "Dawg" Adams (Frank Langella), her other uncle and villain of this movie. The Grimmace, where did Dawg hide his piece of the map?

Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
Oh dear, I don't know this movie. I don't know many movies at all really, but this one especially so.
I'll take a guess at it though, because Google is for the weak. So if I was a pirate, where would I hide a bit of map? On my person probably. Maybe it was around his neck? That's where I put all my valuables when I travel.Awesome Lion Avatar by the wonderful Mr. Saturn. Thanks

Re: Playground Squares XI: And here we go again!
Okay Reinholdt, I just watched Princess of Thieves, starring Kiera Knightly.
Filmed in 2001, 2 years after Star Wars I, Princess of Thieves is the story of, as you may guess, Robin Hood's daughter, Gwyn.
King Richard is dying in some war, thousands of miles from England. He has sent his signet ring to his illegitimate son, Prince Phillip, in the hopes of making him the next heir of Endlang, instead of Prince John.
Prince John schemes of murdering Prince Phillip, with the help of the Countess Tourtelot, the Sheriff of Nottingham, and his cronies.
To protect his son, King Richard sends his champion, Robin Hood to protect the Prince on his way to London. But the two have never met, and know not what each other looks like.
And so, like in too many spy movies, they have a special passcode to say, so they will know one another. Prince Phillip says to the would-be Robin Hood's; "Mortal love is but the licking of honey from thorns."
What is to be Robin's reply?

It is in solitude that character is illuminated.
As if I'd ever turn down a Robin Hood movie. Steal from the rich, give to me!
