Summary:
> The world of Xes, where the one and only city, Xes, is surrounded by fields and plains before coming onto an expanse of destruction. The world has been devastated by powerful magics on the other side, summoning plagues and outsiders from any and all realms. To put it bluntly, the strongest of them all are constantly at the borders, defending their small area. The king is just a figure head, while the council of twelve makes all the real decisions. Two dwarves, elves, humans, orcs, halflings, and gnomes make up the council, one from each gender. And there's one more thing: a crystal sits atop the council's spire, sending a pulsing wave of blue energy to repel the plague.

But some are saying that one person wants to get rid of the crystal... to give this world over to the creatures of the night. Its said that during the 6 hours surrounding midnight (9pm to 3am), being out on the streets is nearly suicide, as the creatures sometimes break through when the crystal is weakest, around midnight. And the strongest... they're busy dealing with the real threats at the edge of the habitable world.
