A half note (D) followed by a quarter note (E) followed by a third (A). Then, the pattern repeats itself seven times.

Reinholdt's really glad he's not on the other side of the portal with the creepy skeletons right now. That'd be bad.

Or he would be if he knew about it.

And... it's a music puzzle!

Reinholdt the character knows very little about music. If only this were Fez Hat Reinholdt the character. Then he could do it. But Reinholdt's life has not been filled with happy musical melody.

He does have a basic idea of what the puzzle is though. Press the right three notes in order seven times in a row. Fortunately there's only 24 combinations. Sure that's 504 button pressing and some note taking, but it can be done!

Reinholdt starts doing what he probably doesn't do best, but sometimes has fun with anyways.

Tweetums is smoking a pipe, though. With all the inanity of the Nexus, I really just wouldn't ask.

Plus, you wouldn't get an answer. The dinosaur chirps happily at Bianca. It got boring not eating anyone, especially after Mister Buttons went to sleep.

Zero sees the demon and he stands very still. He breathes very deeply and then the sparks that normally float around his hands go into the hands. Suddenly he looks far more healthy and he runs straight at the demon. If the demon doesn't stop him from getting close he will try to punch the demon in the face.

And so the sulking demons drag themselves back through the portal, mourning their state.

All they wanted was to adopt a puppy!

The demons find a pistol aimed at them.

That might not harm the demons much, so long as it isn't loaded with holy/incendiary/fragmentation/explosive/other uber destructive type of bullet rounds.

There's that voice again. This time it is jeering at Sophie in a mocking tone.

"A pistol? You're pointing a paltry pistol at us?"

"Hahahahaha!"

"We should really reward you for detaining her. We wouldn't be here if you hadn't."

The beetle demon nearest Sophie tosses a bag of silver (which has materialized out of the air itself) at her head, pitching it to her as one would throw a tennis ball to a treasured child just learning how to play the game of catch.

Zero's fist collides with one of the beetle daemons.

Part of the daemons face is missing.

Where did it go?

Well, it is currently trying to skitter up Zero's arm, towards his back, and down his spine.

The voice roars in laughter. Mirth. It finds this whole scene amusing.

The green energy leaps all around Valaira's body. She is slowly brought to the earth in pure agony, whereupon the inky beetles of one skeleton begin to splash over Valaira's mangled form, blanketing her body in a sheet of tiny, crawling critters.

Valaira makes not a noise as she is brought down. She can't even breathe, so great are her afflictions.

Rein will find that the puzzle is far simpler than he expected. Whenever he attempts to press two or more buttons, assuming one of them has been pressed in the incorrect order, the buttons will spring back to their original positions. Additionally, he will find that by the end of the puzzle, if he does not press the one remaining button, nothing will remarkable will happen.

Eventually (hopefully) Rein will push the buttons in the following order:

(From left to right) 2 4 3 1

Hence, the 1/2 note, 1/4 note, and the 1/3 note.

And he will only have to enter this sequence once!

Yay!

Once Rein presses the white buttons in the correct order, the back of the chimney will slide open, revealing a small, dark, dank, rough, chiseled stone passageway descending downwards deep below the surface of the earth at a steep incline. No light shines in this tunnel, though there are clear signs that a herd of humans came tromping through the passage not long ago, namely footprints, the scent of humans, and DNA the crowd left behind.

The shaft is approximately 5'7" high and 4' wide.

Hope Rein isn't claustrophobic or afraid of the dark.

The demon might find that Zero's body is a bad place to be. He starts to become covered in energy that has no purpose other than to kill demons and as time goes by, it becomes stronger. He continues to attack whichever demon seems to be attacking Valaria.

That makes things simpler and much faster!
Reinholdt has no trouble getting it open through trial and error.

He glances at the passageway.
And scoffs.

Turning into the cat that's about 6 inches high and less than that wide, he finds seeing in the quite dark a rather non issue, and traversing steep inclines a joke. This is half the reason in and of itself why he's good at treasure hunting. Able to get where people can't.

Silly hoomans.

Reinholdt quickly and cautiously moves ahead.

Simon the Nuzleaf saw this going on. He had somehow returned to the water. Some saw something broke in Simon that day, something that would make him do something stupid and heroic.
He was going to fight a demon.
He ran out of the water and jumped and hugged Valaira.
Simon used Protect!
A glowing blue orb of light covered Simon and Valaira, this would also cause the beetles to go away by instant vaporization.
"Nuzleaf?"*
*Translation(if she's part animal): 'are you okay?'

Sophie ducks under the bag of silver. Yes. I am aiming a pistol at you. I wonder how merry you'd be if there weren't three of you against two people, sons of b***es. She squints and uses an power to try and determine the demons' weaknesses.
