Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
So, I just watched BMO lost.
...
So anyway, there's gonna be an Adventure Time Encyclopaedia!
Abrams will publish The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia, the first-of-its-kind, definitive guide to the show’s beloved characters and world. The book was written by Martin Olson, the voice actor for the Lord of Evil on Adventure Time, who narrates the book in character. It also features original illustrations by Renee French, Tony Millionaire, Celeste Moreno, Aisleen Romano, and Mahendra Singh, and is being designed by Sean Tejaratchi. The show’s creator, Pendleton Ward, is contributing original content to the book as well.
Created in conjunction with Cartoon Network Enterprises, The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia includes everything anyone will ever need to know about the Land of Ooo and its inhabitants—secret lore and spells, fun places you should visit and places where you will probably die, what to eat and not to eat, whom to marry and whom not to marry, how to make friends and how to destroy your enemies—plus “marginalia” and doodles by Finn, Jake, and Marceline.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
I was rather shocked at the almost ending, when the
SpoilerBubble popped.
Seriously, even though it ended up, 'OK' (albeit in a creeepy stalker kind of way'), BMO's feelings right before were very genuine and heartbreaking.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
Why didn't Finn and Jake go looking for BMO? They would have noticed that BMO was missing since it seems like they interact every day.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
Not really; we've seen BMO do his own thing before (BMO Noir, anyone?) without Finn and Jake noticing. And it's not like BMO was really gone for that long - just overnight it seemed like.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
Finn and Jake are not very responsible people a lot of the time.
If they don't notice BMO around, they'll probably assume he's off doing one of his funny things.
Or heck, they could have gotten called away by PB, spent the day away, come home, gone to sleep, and gotten up the next morning when BMO came back.
They forgot about NEPTR for a lot longer than that.If you like my thoughts, you'll love my writing. Visit me at www.mishahandman.com.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
Speaking of people being forgotten about, we hardly ever see LSP anymore. She was around a lot more early in the series.

James Baxter is best... horse.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
James Baxter felt creepy. It was like the animators tried TOO hard with him. His character design was relatively simple and consistent with usual design for the series. It's just when his design got passed through initial rotation an storyboards he seems to have taken on a whole lot more detail than he was meant for. His hair is fluid, his body has weight and pronounced squash and stretch, and his movements are much slicker than any of the others.
Normally I'd appreciate the effort and it's obvious the people involved put a lot of extra work into it, but the simple "two sphere" design just makes it look creepy.
The wiki says they had a guest animator for this episode, and given James Baxter is the name of an animator this is probably intentional(Especially the board he draws on is a since the board he draws on is the kind usually used for 2d paper animation).
It's just like... all the elements of something great and impressive are there, it's just that at some point in production things got put together weirdly.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
Badly executed. Characters so simply done don't often lend themselves well to more elaborate animations is the thing.
His body is two circles with nothing else. Squash and stretch was nice, but there was no way to really capture that same level of elaborate movement that something like say, a Disney character can do when the circle that makes their stomach is like a beanbag or flour sack, instead of a bouncing ball. Likewise, the head was just a simple wedge shape. Which works perfectly fine in adventure time's normal, flat way of doing things. Once the horse wound up being displayed at different angles it showed exactly why they don't do that more often, because it looks weird. There's some subtle details that just look wrong in execution.
It's like what happens if you take Mickey Mouse, do him up with the best 3d technology so every single bit of fur on his body is realistic in terms of texture and shading and perfectly mimics actual mouse fur, while his actual body is rubber hoses and spheres still. Those don't go well together.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
The episode really just came off as filler. It certainly wasn't a bad episode, but it can be summarized so quickly that it doesn't really matter.
Steam username is Triscuitable.
I got VAC banned in COD: Ghosts for using an FOV changer.
I try not to think of how sad that is.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
I agree, that was rather unsettling. Much of the rest of the animation often feels closer in style to the old rubber hose Betty Boop animation, while Baxter was closer, but not quite, to Loony Tunes and even old Disney, with a much greater feeling of mass and weight, not to mention volume.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
You guys are going far too in depth about James Baxter's animation. I just thought he was a funny horse, and rather enjoyed the episode. Particularly Finn and Jake's first attempt being at a funeral.

Re: What time is it? (Adventure Time Season 3)
Honestly, I really liked JB's animation. Something about the way it stood out at the end there just made me happy. And that's what James Baxter is all about.
Beemo at the beginning was adorable too. Have you noticed how they seem to be playing up the "Beemo wants to be a real boy/girl" angle lately? I'm wondering if they're building up to an episode where it really happens.

Apparently the horse was animated and voiced by James Baxter. I think this is hysterical.
