Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
SpoilerI might use mine for my next character, then. But it's Chaotic Good, wouldn't fit for Wilstaff. Bennett, maybe.
Well, I haven't quite the skills to raise up an army just yet, but I wasn't intending to anyhow, couldn't handle the chatter from them all. But if I manage to knock off anyone who might make a powerful bone buddy, and find myself at capacity, you'll be the first one I come to. As well as the last, so long as your price is right.
Wilstaff looks to Bennett and thinks.
In fact, there is something I've been meaning to ask one of your breed. Do you know of a wand or potion that could contain the spell you'll soon be using on Bennett here, so I can heal him on the go? As well as stick random people in the street with it for fun, I suppose.

Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
Hmmm....my donatin' ability is slightly strapped right about nowish. And Bennett isn't financially flush either. I tell you what; you name me the price, and when I can swing it we'll come back. And if somehow I manage to find an undead hanger-on before that day comes, I'll bring him to you for your pleasure and we'll call it an even trade. One eternal servant ought to be worth a glowy-stick.
Wilstaff walks off, clapping Bennett on his shoulder blades as they go.
Wasn't so bad, was it? Not having nerve endings is probably part of that.
He then goes to make sure construction on the arena is progressing as scheduled.
SpoilerAnd on that note, I'm probably going to use the Scorer's Glass map for the arena, because while it doesn't fit the setting as well, it won't require line of sight checks, which are a large part of what slows down every Arena match. Seriously, there have been ones that went on for 50 rounds and six months without the people ever seeing each other. Best avoided.

I'll keep it in mind, champ. But right now we couldn't swing more than four between us.
Wilstaff continues toward the future fighting ring site to scope things out.

SpoilerYeah, the lava isn't really needed, and in-game would be hard as heck to explain or implement.
Wilstaff rubs his hands together and makes his scheming face. Good, good. Let us away, Bennett. We've done enough for one day.
He turns in for the night, unless something else arises. His prepared spells for tomorrow will be updated later.

I'll give that thing something to burn about, should I see it again. Wilstaff mutters as he rises and tries to decide what to do today.

Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
SpoilerI know I'd like to get the 900 xp to level up before going on the big offensive. Perhaps now that Wilstaff is feeling so relatively normalized, he'll do something nice for once. I'll leave my spells the same for now, and change them when I rest again before the fight (since it is presumably very late).
Wilstaff stretches.
Ah, the itch is not bothering us, your wounds are magically mended, and in less than 24 hours we will be part of the biggest barbeque this city has ever seen. I feel chipper, Bennett. And I acknowledge this is due in part to your voice of reason in my ear. So...I think we'll indulge in one of your fantasies today. The Masked Avenginator!
Wilstaff changes his appearance to that of a masked hobgoblin, and Bennett to a young male hobgoblin with a cape.
Let's go find, and fight, some crime!

Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
SpoilerI was just dashing off a response before I drove back from the show. I'll go into more detail now.
Once again setting up the rope system, the costumed pair hit the streets of the slums, with the floating Wilstaff searching for any crimes in progress. Along the way, the first group of children he sees he will throw (2d10)[4] silver pieces to them (but not AT them) and shout out Have a meal on me, the Masked Avenginator, and his sidekick Tow Boy!
He then speaks in a lower tone to the disguised skeleton below him.
No, that was the deal. I let you talk me into actually doing something nice for once, I get to come up with the names. No welching, Bennett!
They then continue on their way. If no crimes become apparent after the first hour or two, they will return to the building where Wilstaff had hidden before in his aborted ambush as a wayward teen, and Wil will attempt to hide on the roof and watch the goings-on below.

Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
Wilstaff gapes at the rampant rulebreaking.
Wow, I really thought the Bluetonium Rods were doing better at keeping order here. Some of these look like jobs for the Masked Avenginator! Others, well, you know, maybe there'll be a lesser superhero around.
Wilstaff goes to help one of the people in mortal peril, although if any of the crimes are being perpetrated on those with Blue Hand marks he gives them preference. If any of them are being perpetrated by someone with the mark, we'll ignore them.

Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
Wilstaff whispers to Bennett.
OK, this is our first time stopping a crime instead of, you know, being a crime. We need to be dramatic about it.
As they approach, Wilstaff points at the cruel orcs from his perch above them, poses with his hands on his waist, and bellows...
Cads! I say to you now, stop all your wrongdoing! You face the mighty Masked Avenginator, and he will rend the buttocks of your soul with his righteous might if you do not unhand those goblins! Failure to comply may result in an arrow to the face!

Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
One of the orcs breaks and runs, the other three respond by slamming a dagger down in the poor goblin's ear. "Make us." One of them says. That one has only one eye.

Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
SpoilerI thought there were four orcs? And in as in into the brain, or just lopping the ear off? Trying to determine if this goblin is dead or not in case I use area effect spells.
Wilstaff's eyes narrow.
I don't make monkeys, I train them.
He looks down at Bennett.
It doesn't matter if the line falls flat when everyone who hears it will be dead soon anyhow.
Wilstaff casts Haste on himself and Bennett, assuming the fight does not start first. Bennett will move closer, and if possible, will attack twice with his flail on the nearest orc.

Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
You get your spell off, then combat starts.
The one-eyed orc goes before you, but the other two go after you.
One-eye picks up a nearby empty barrel and throws it at Bennet, dealing (2d6+10)[15] damage.

Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
Wilstaff's eyes narrow further. If he gets any angrier, he won't be able to see anything.
That's a neat trick. Here's a couple of ours.
If Bennett is close enough to 5 foot to an enemy he'll double attack, but I'll assume moving comes first and it's just the one. Unless it passes through a threatened area, Bennett goes to one of One-Eye's buddies and targets him with his flail.
(1d20+5)[25] (1d8+2)[4]
And Wilstaff targets all of them with a Web spell, targeted 5 feet behind the enemies (so only 15 feet of web separate him from them).

Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
Bennet's orc is now a meaty puddle of mashed bits.
One-eye resists getting held fast, but his buddy is not so fortunate. Still, you manage to limit his mobility. He only has time to walk over to a wagon wheel and pick it up, but not throw it.
Both are still visible to you.Much thanks to Ceika for the poketar!

Re: AVB - Skeletal Companions
SpoilerWhat is this, a class that specializes in improvised weapons?
Because if so, I actually was looking for something like that at one time. Joke Arena characters were all the rage, and I had a doozy in mind, but it required a couple things I could never find in order to not instantly lose with it. Specifically, the ability to wield a musical instrument as a weapon with little to no penalty, and a PC race that resembles a horse. And if you can guess where I was going with this, good for you.
Here pal, you look like you might want out of that nasty ol' web. Let me help.
Wilstaff casts Kelgore's Fire Bolt on One-Eye for (5d6)[19] damage, DC 15 Reflex to halve. Presumably it also sets One-Eye's square of web on fire for 2d4 damage the next turn, and his (limited) freedom.
Bennett moves toward the fastened henchman, if he can, and slaps him with the flail.

Spoileryes...
Bennet moves there, but his slap is wide of his target.
One-Eye takes the full brunt of the blast, catches on fire, takes another (2d4)[4] fire damage from the web, and throws the pail of water at you, bottom first. You are hit for (d8+10)[16] damage and a wet hobgoblin mage.
The other orc draws an axe out and chops at Bennet, but misses.Much thanks to Ceika for the poketar!

Bennett goes for a double dose of flail fun.

Wilstaff, soaked to the bone and severely battered, bursts out laughing.
Ha, now we're having fun.
He draws a Faith Healing potion from his belt and downs it, restoring 9 HP.
