ABR Discussion thread XXXV - Rise of the Pervsharks!

Well, Avatar Battle Royale started (and still is, sometimes) as a game where people draw their avatar fighting someone else's avatar.

It evolved when people started adding consistent plotlines to their posts, and the "plots" came. Currently we have one running one, which started a few months ago.

In any case, to join, just draw your avatar killing someone else's avatar, or something. We're pretty laid-back.

Though, I cant actually edit my avatar, Am I allowed to use one I made?

You don't even really have to use your avatar - I have... two or three characters in ABR. None of them are a blood angel space marine pony.

Depends on the person. Me, I use Inkscape exclusively. Others use paint or their tablets.

Honestly? We have really low standards here.

For the most part, not many of us could really 'draw' when we joined. Though the things people post nowadays can be pretty intimidating sometimes.

Really, as along as people can tell what's going on in a comic and it follows the basic rules, you'll do fine. I would suggest going through some of the ABR archives linked in the first post - you'll get a good example of how awful everything here actually is.

Inkscape doesn't have much of a tutorial?

But as far as 'how could i miss that' goes: It took me over two hours to figure out that the 'R' was the reload button in my first PC shooter.

In a similar experience, I died the first few times I tried House of the Dead because no one told me to shoot away from the screen.

But yeah, inkscape's tutorial is pretty nonexistent.

Well, not mine. I was absolutely horrid until I returned a bit ago. I had worked in Paint, then a bit in inkscape, then I disappeared because school got rough for a few years XD

I wish I still had the files for the animated kills I did, though. Those were cool.

Also, Grlump? In MY theatre lecture this morning, I think I figured out what the hell the bird-thing-guy was that keeps showing up in your comics. It's a depiction of Ill Dottre, or the Doctor, of Commedia Dell'arte (evidently, MY favourite character of Commedia Dell'arte, which I performed in Highschool). A rarer depiction (I can't even locate it in Google Images) but quickly flashed by in a slideshow during the lecture.

Am I on the money, did you actually intend it to be something else?

Actually Q, you are quite correct. I took the design from the old Commedia Dell'arte drawing of ill Dottre, which in turn is based off the old look of the plague doctors (so actually you're both right)!

On the comic front, exams have just started (first one yesterday), so comics will be intermittent at best...

Sorry for my absence over the festive period, I'm back now. Things got a little hectic.

By the way, I LOVED your comic skimmer. I was planning on doing something similar if I had time, but yeah, you did it better. Good use of Cobalt

Also welcome ShadowFireLance! Like has been said, don't be intimidated by everyone's (save me) good art! I manage to get by, and I think most ABRers are a million time better than me. You'd probably feel better if you saw some our very first drawings in ABR in most cases XD

Also maybe I'll have a new comic up soon... just can't guarantee it at the moment.

Man... the first two weeks of school have been extremely rough.

I'm going to force myself to make some time for ABR. I'll have a comic by sunday.

Freaking school and books and games. Been a week and still didn't manage to get around to it.

I'm guessing that FI, ABR Corps, and the other storylines (except for Endless Winter) all died during the last year or so?
