Why do I feel a sense of impending doom after reading comic 176?
Hmm...sleepless magic user...under stress...um, crap. V-style crazy breakdown?

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Yeah...when I saw that the hanging part-orc had a fang on one side, I suspected this a little, but I figured that Coffee wouldn't hold out on us if Lexington was actually part-Plaavan. I guess she's more selective in her spoilers than I originally thought.
Now I'm even more convinced that one of the good guys is going to end up hanged in the near future. Whatever happens, I'm sure Lexi's reasonably safe as a result of being the main character's love interest. I can see Miles getting the noose for the sake of protecting Lexi, though.
I'm crossing my fingers that, if someone dies, it won't be one of the main characters my fanfic, or else it will be outdated before I even finish it. By the way, I'm wondering exactly what I got myself into when I started writing that. About 35% of it is typed, but according to Word, it already has 2600 words. I'd post it in multiple installments, but there doesn't seem to be any good breaks in the narrative where I can divide the story into pieces.
EDIT: Ooh, I almost forgot. This comic marks the arrival of an interesting event. Granted, this event seems to have a lot less impact considering that the comic is not currently focused on Team Gale. As of this strip, Team Gale has spent half the comic in Trassix. They've managed to spend half the run of Murphy's Law in one place and without any on-screen encounters.Last edited by Alagaesian; 2012-02-13 at 01:00 PM.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Reading over Lloyd's flashback again, I can't believe I didn't see Lexi's race sooner.
Miles (to Lloyd, strip 99): "You just figured it out and the only reason that Lexington and I realized before is that I'm one of the most analytical people around and Lexington's Lexington!"
*commences facepalming*
Also, I wonder if Lloyd knew Lexi's race composition before they hooked up, and how he reacted when he learned about it. I guess we'll find out in the prequel.

I just realized:
"half-elf with a snaggletooth" is technically true! Half-elf-half-ork, and the tusk is technically a big snaggletooth!
Yay, Coffee's not a liar!

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Yes. That tusked race with extra toes would be half-hobgoblins.
I find it ironic that the Kagoan army would recruit so many part-Plaavans into their ranks. Granted, Lexi has it fairly easy - his skin color and boots hid enough of his bloodline to let him slip by unnoticed, but part-orcs like Thornton have that green tint to their skin. I'd expect racism to get those kinds of people banned from conscription due to Kagoan distrust. Maybe they don't develop their orkish traits until later in life or something.
Note to self: In future campaigns, give human-born part-orcs an earlier puberty in which they develop green skin and grow tusks.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
There were only a few and they were low in the ranks, but yeah. It shows just how bad things have gotten in the past few years.
Lexi doesn't have any elf blood in him. He failed a critical Knowledge: Racial Characteristics (Elf) roll (with a surprisingly low DC) and I'm not going to say anything else on the subject right now.My webcomic!

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
I had Lex pegged as part hobgoblin pretty early on because it seemed to be most consistent with his colouring: orcs and goblins are green as people have pointed out. When Coffee gave the snaggle toothed half elf explanation I thought it sounded a lot like a partial truth/ de-facto excuse. I thought he might not have had plavaan in him after all because Tiasal, a half goblin, half elf character, appeared in the comic and had two fangs and slightly coloured eyes. So part of me was thinking maybe he had a distant plavaan ancestor and part of me was thinking that maybe just being part elven and looking like he might be plavaan would be enough to make him aware of and sympathetic towards the plavaan cause.
My guess was not facilitated by the character represented in my avatars. At all.
As for who's going to die... I can see this going a number of ways, but I'm pretty confident that a named or pre-existing character will indeed meet their end in a noose before this arc ends, as Alagaesian predicted. If nobody does then y'all'll have to colour me surprised.
I'm tempted to say it'll be one of the plavaan dissidents though, because that might cause more of a stir amongst the troops - so blue boots or halfling caster, perhaps? Actually, Alex would be a pretty plausible one... but she wasn't really 'one of the guys' like blue boots or halfling caster, she was an elite like Lloyd, Lexington and Miles, just a slightly less elite one, in terms of moral scrutiny and moral fibre - I'm not sure if she's been out killing Plavaan babies like Lloyd though, so she doesn't have as much reason to realise they're people. Or we might just learn newly introduced suspicious guy's name and he might die... I don't know. I've not ruled out the possibility that Lexington or Miles will be killed, but I find the idea somewhat unlikely. Miles is kind of an obvious choice and Lexington's rather a downbeat one - not saying Miles would deserve it or anything, but it's one of the more predictable options and he's not been shown to be in an explicitly affectionate relationship with anyone, so it's not so sad to lose him. Miles seems to be a good person and all and to care about the fate of people, but that doesn't make him appealing or likeable, even if one can empathise with him: I don't dislike him - he has an element of dry wit and he's protected his friends and the exploited - but he isn't in my top six favourite characters.
Actually... I don't know who my top six would be. It wouldn't be the humanoid members of Team Gale, although I'm sure at least some of them would make it.
Also: Alagaesian... I'm, uh, not surprised that the Kagoan army recruits people with plavaan ancestory especially since these guys are "only one quarter plavaan" Lexi's not orange: he's tan, Thornton's not green: he's pistachio. They're not the same thing. [/allusion]

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Coffee might not know who/what either of those are. Heck i didn't even know who you were talking about until you mentioned the series, and that’s only because the TV show ran on one of my stations for awhile and it showed up in the previews, i never even watched the dang thing.
I think what he is TRYING to say, is would Kago accept Plavaan or partial-Plavaan into their ranks if said (Partial)Plavaan also hated their fellow Plavaan? Or is one-quarter relation the closest decent they will allow?
Edit: Or is it even further then that, And Lex and Thort just had high bluff and disguise checks.Last edited by Draconi Redfir; 2012-02-14 at 05:21 PM.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
I feel the need to point out that Uncle Ruckus, who has come up a few times in recent discussion, is a caricature of a preexisting concept - Uncle Tom. That's a more widely understood term for the concept, and has the advantage of being the source of the character, not a reference to it.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Sorry guys; I've got three prelims and a paper in the next two weeks and my preparation is still far too much in "I have no idea what I'm doing" territory for my comfort. I probably won't be able to update until the end of the month...

Lexington and Miles are gonna do a walk and talk. What about? Discuss.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
That's too bad, still school is school. I'm a fountain of wisdom aren't I?
Also looks like your photobucket account is full anyway. May I recommend getting a free image-shack account and alternating comics between the two?
With that in mind may I suggest the title for the next thread? "Murphy's Law 8: what can go wrong... won't"

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
I guess the only way to ensure that neither of the main characters in my fanfic will die before I get to post it is to post it before Coffee puts up the next strip. I'm at the 80% mark, and at the rate I'm going, it'll be almost 8000 words long. Half of you (the sane half) will probably wonder what I was on when I came up with the premise.
