Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
I think the number of halflings we've seen affiliated with Kago is higher than the number we've seen outside of it. It wouldn't be unnatural to assume that halflings are more common in Kago, and thus learning their language and culture would benefit the heir of the Kagoan lord.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Hold on. General Murphy... Murphy's Law... Why didn't I notice the connection earlier?
Coffee, was that intentional? (This may have been asked before, but I don't want to trawl the old threads to find it.)When in doubt, use cute little dragons.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
I've been reading for a while, and I gotta say I love this comic. I always love when an author makes their own world/setting/whatnot, and in your case, Coffee, you let the readers explore the world along with the protagonists. Not just geographically, but politically too.
I also love how you've adapted a style similar to the Giant's and made it your own, as well as the fact that you don't break the fourth wall so often that it overwhelms the comic. The characters are enjoyable
I really look forward to reading more.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
That is a good point about the moral ambiguity, and a theme in any story that I enjoy.
Now the whole thing about Rust being "evil"...I may be speaking too soon and perhaps even forgetting a few details, but was his covert murder of Lord Byron (who supported all the Plavaan hate) and assumption of power in Kago's government really thaaat vile? He could be doing it for the greater good. Again, you can correct me if I'm wrong, but from a certain point of view what I just said could qualify someone as being not-quite-so-evil.
If I'm horribly off the mark on this one, you may point and laugh at me.Last edited by Laser Frog; 2012-03-20 at 09:09 AM.

Didn't word of coffee once say Rust wasn't an Angel and was actually a demon in disguise or something?

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
There have been several hints that Rust is Evil. For instance, look at what he said when he arrived in Kago. It's the decoded cryptogram, and if you don't want this spoiled for you, just skip this.
Spoiler"Alistair; took you long enough; I-- Wait...this is Kago. I can still make this work."
Recall the cleric at the start of this strip whose name is also Alistair. If that's just a coincidence, then I'll be pretty surprised. At any rate, why would a servant of Astrid expect to be summoned by a cleric of a Giant Elemental? I think it's pretty safe to assume that Rust isn't who he says he is when he claims to be a servant of Astrid.
Also, I'm pretty sure it's hard to paint Rust as a good guy when looking at the exact circumstances in which Bryon was killed. There's the small matter of Bryon pleading Rust to tell the others that they are wrong about the Plaavan, that they're not doing the right thing here, before Rust decides that this is proper moment to smother him with his own pillow. He didn't try killing Bryon before he voiced a repentance, he did it afterwards. It doesn't help matters that, while Rust is killing him, his eyes are glowing red and there's a smirk on his face.
Rust tells Bryon before killing him that, yes, Bryon is right that what they're doing is wrong and how he's surprised that doing any of those things would allow someone to still be detected Good. Then he goes on to do all those things as Mage General. The things he practically admitted were Evil. You might counter this argument by saying that he agreed with Murphy and Perry that the Plaavan must be killed for the greater good, so clearly he thinks Kago is still doing the Good things, right? However, I personally think that someone is more likely to reveal their true motives to someone they're about to kill than to someone that is still alive.
So, basically, if you decided to skip over my blocks of text, Bryon was not a Plaavan-hater (at least, when Rust decided to kill him), Rust is purposefully doing Evil stuff, and he's probably not an angel and is lying about it to an entire country.
Also, I don't think the demon-thing was Word of Coffee. Just fan speculation.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
...
SpoilerOkay, I always wondered what the "inside joke" in that strip was.
I must say that yes, I was almost completely off the mark on this one. While I COULD try to justify things "from a certain point of view", the evidence probably wouldn't support such reasoning anyway.
Right now I wish I'd read over that series of strips again instead of just basing things on what I remembered about them.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Mass speculation? I can do that.
I hereby speculate that the actual truth is going to be completely unexpected, but far more logical and sensible than anything we can come up with.Mauve Shirt, Savannah, Gnomish Wanderer, Cuthalion and Smuchmuch get cookies for making me avatars. (::)

I speculate that it will unexpected, sensible and logical, except completely different from what Elemental speculates. Meaning, I'm guessing the same thing, but it will happen in a totally different way.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
I speculate that it will be possible to speculate the truth, but the truth will remain as speculation until the author conjures it into existence. Furthermore, some truths will remain speculated upon even after their reveal, and some reveals will remain true despite our speculations.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
I think we get to see Murphy dying in front of his own son.

I think this clip should be called "Funny Aneurysm Moment" since Johan abused (or raped) Janine. She even thanked astrid for saving her friend from Johan.Badly drawn helmet avatar drawn by me.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Or, as I hinted at in my fanfic, maybe Johan was actually a good guy who was a nice, older-brother figure to Janine until he decided to get a little too comfortable with her. And by 'comfortable', I mean she got old enough for him to start feeling sexual lust towards her, and it all went downhill from there.

Re: Murphy's Law 7: ...Maybe?
Okay, disaster narrowly averted! Apparently my old computer had been running anywhere from two months to possibly two years (where it fell off the bed and chipped the casing) with a damaged hard drive.
And yet they still managed to save all my data. So I got a new computer and am doing a data transfer tomorrow; I should update Sunday! My webcomic!
