And since it looks like the heroes probably won't stop the end of the world I'm going to be making a splinter timeline plawt thread where all apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic doom takes place. Where the Old Ones walk the world and so forth.

It should be a good place to make bad-ass last-stand posts for various PCs =D

The rest of the Nexus (all other threads) will continue as business as usual since making everyone's PC die forever wouldn't be much fun.

Actually, the heroes might still have a pretty good chance because Patronus is launching an evacuation of Inside and resupplying and reinforcing the heroes in three hours or so (significantly reducing the amount of biomass the beasts can assimilate and allowing for scorched earth tactics to be employed).

Kind of agree. Why was Zee giving out quests if Quest Fail = End of World?

I kind of figured that the end of the world was going to be the end result of these quests.

In Cthulhu related role playing games, most plots result in the participating characters death or insanity.

It is a game designed to be really creepy and extremely difficult to best.

That's why most of my characters are off-screen right now.

Plus, the Great Old Ones aren't invincible.

Someone just needs to invoke the Elder Gods to help humanity's cause.

They oppose the Great Old Ones and might be way more helpful than Zee in this particular plot.

Edit:

Getting the organizations involved would also really help.

After all, if it is one player versus twelve or so, the twelve cannot lose 'cause that would just be ludicrous.

Upon thought, I have found a number of ways to turn this around:

A. The weapon of the crocoseals.
This thing, currently in random plots, might be just what we need. Or it might just be a straw on the camel's back.

B. Battle royale
AMEN is rearing to go, and once HALO and WATCHTOWER get involved, stuff will begin to really heat up. This might be our best bet, but it depends largely on the cooperation and patience of lots of players.

C. Summon bigger fish
Rule 1 of the multiverse: there is someone that can beat you up. We find and entity that can defeat the horrors and let it loose. The problem: dealing with said entity. Can you imagine an amoeba beseeching you to kill a fly? Same basic principle.

D. Detonate spacetime
Some kind of metaphysical strike that would damage the horrors. Obvious problem: it'll probably end the rest of us, too.

E. Under the rug
Just retcon it, or pretend it never happened. This is to be avoided, I think.

Thoughts? Concerns? Pointing and laughing?

The 'lets get every org involved in saving the world' plot doesn't work for ooc reasons - 1. it's difficult to get everyone to work together when everyone is in different threads and time zones, and 2. Lots of players really really hate apocaplots. I mean violently hate them. Mostly because of 3. Large scale multi-thread plots nearly always dissolve into ooc drama and disagreement, sometimes to the point of ragequits and mass deletion of posts.

Summon Bigger Fish.

Lovecraft's Old Ones were not that invincible. Hit them with a steamboat. Remember your magic spells. Wake up at the appropriate time. Dream vividly. Shoot them with a revolver. Hit them with a rock. Show them their reflection. These all work in their times.

Now, Rebo's horrors may be truly or nearly undefeatable. Given PCs' lack of going mad and generally strong willpower, they need to be more than merely impossible to be any sort of a threat.

And people go on quests to stop the end of the world all the time.
I like Rebo's suggestion of splitting into an end-of the world timeline at this double failure.
In the main timeline, something can be thought of to stop that monstrosity and let the plot otherwise continue or end.
In the short-lived apocalypse thread, well, this is a story about the end of the world. Where the heroes don't manage to stop it. Or at best, manage to save a small remnant of things.

Nobody is going to stand for the actual end of the NEXUS. The fun is in trying to stop/destroy it and believing the conceit that it could actually end, creating some drama.
