Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
In the few colour splashes that we've seen of him, he has brown skin.
By Dominia standards, he might as well have "Made in Semash" stamped on his left butt-cheek.~ CAUTION: May Contain Weasels ~

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
You know, I wont comment on the stupidity, thats already been covered. I just want to say, I actually like how the view screen picture was drawn. I think it looks pretty nice in fact. Oh sure the king only has 4 fingers, and his face looks like a fright mask with empty eyeholes and a crack where the mouth would be, but its.... never mind, its kinda crappy.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
This is the best plan. All that's missing is the Beast blowing up a little orphan girl in rags holding a dirty teddy bear and looking ever so sad, while the king watches, holding a glass of Elfelo, cackling most villainously, then, when the Beast is done, points at Chance saying "Tonight...you!" before raising his glass to his tentacle friend and resuming his maniacal laughter (while drinking).
Maybe add a choral of wailing women, too.
Hey, DJ Callan is looking pretty sharp there. Why, angular, even.
Oh, and also:
Spoiler
Come on Mookie, four days for a stupid pun, you can do it...
Alternatively, lazorsword. I'd like that, it would add to the overall stupidity of this arc. And I haven't seen the Inappropriate Wall in a while.Last edited by Johnny Blade; 2011-08-22 at 08:35 AM.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Several days ago, I tried to come up with a plan of how to frame the king.
Non of them was very good, mostly because they were a bit over complex, but ALL OF THEM WERE BETTER THAN THIS ONE!
Seriously, all of my plans, including the ones that required unknown parameters (ass-pulls) such as traitors or a new type of magic were better than this.
Even the plan that included a radioactive hamster and a banana was better than this!

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
He should have explained to Dom that when he said his plan was to kill Chance and frame the King with his snugglets, he meant it literally. (As noticed on the SA forum.)
He hasn't killed Chance yet, but a picture of the King is indeed in a frame made of Snugglets; so one half of his plan is successful so far.Hark! An avatar drawn by Kate Beaton!

Doesn't Celesto have mental powers? Couldn't he just brainwash everyone into thinking the King did it and is evil?

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Johnny is right on this. You'd think Mookie could make DJ Callan look a bit more menacing, you know, to really drive home the fact that he's EVULZ. (And it's not like Mookie has never drawn villains before, he has done some decent villainous shots in the past) As it is, it looks like DJ Callan is petting a dog, or chilling out with a bro, etc which adds a more Aww factor to it. Totally not evil imagery for sure.

So why is Dominic so opposed to somehow framing the king? If he comes out and says "It wasn't the king, it was Celesto", then I am going to kill somebody.
YOU WANT IT TO BE THE KING, Dominic.

Celesto clearly didn't work hard enough on this illusion. Notice how the King has a beaknose even though he's in 3/4s profile. Real Dominion apes only get beaknose when they're shown from the front. This is obviously fake.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Sorry, but can anyone remember why the King is working with Snuggly anyway? And why it really matters? The king kills people with an unscryable creature every once in a while, so what? I'd suspect that was normal and accepted as something that happens in Callan. Unpleasant, maybe, but a necessary evil to keep the number of crazy-powerful people down (no owning more than one business in Callan, remember? Only the king is allowed to have control over lots of things, and the populace - more-or-less - trust him with that power and/or know that they couldn't take the throne from him if they tried).
And Celesto really isn't helping, here. "I will frame the king by showing him all chummy like with a monstrous assassin who will appear to kill someone I, and any other seer who bothered to look, know will grow up to be a complete monster if not taken care of". Good plan there, Celly, good plan.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
It hasn't been revealed yet why the King is working with Smuggly. It's almost certain that the reason is going to be fairly stupid once it's revealed, though. Someone as magically and politically powerful as the King should have no motive for working with a childish idiot who can be scared by a lobster mask.
Also, this looks like yet another clumsy attempt to address a problem that was raised in the forums. We were all pointing out how Celesto's plan makes no sense because he hasn't established a link between the King and Smuggly, so now Celesto just throws the link at us, with no subtlety at all, just to quiet all the complaints.Last edited by Mr. McGician; 2011-08-22 at 11:39 AM.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
It will be revealled as a cheap knock off of full metal alchemist. The king tried to use magic to fix his eyes, but the laws of
alchemymagic twisted things, now his eyes are a horrific homunculus. Nothing but tentacles, and teeth, and a giant eye. He is trying to get his eyesight back by making a deal with his eyemunculus to make it more powerful."Interdum feror cupidine partium magnarum Europae vincendarum"

If you asked someone who studied some Latin, the word would rather be something like oculunculus; which, I'll grant you, sounds silly.
Except the homunculus is a little man, whereas Snuggly is a huge eye; so you can't call it a little eye. Hmm.Hark! An avatar drawn by Kate Beaton!

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Oh no, I think you're right - that will happen.
....Of course, it'll only last for 10 seconds in-comic time before half the caste lunge out of nowhere with a number of earnest, dubious and yet utterly pacifying excuses as to why Dominic is innocent (despite the fact that he IS supposed to be looking for ways to prove that the King is in cahoots with Snuggly....). If we're lucky, it might even be a Friday Cliffhanger!
That would actually be a really good story - and you could do it without ripping off Full Metal Alchemist - and would explain just about everything that we want to know about Snuggly.
Why is Snuggly 'flavoured' with the Elemecca? Because that's where King DJ went to get his raw materials for his ritual/components.
Why was Snuggly first found in the Far Reaches? Because DJ banished it there in a panic when his spell went wrong and he realised that he had created a monster.
Why did DJ order the Battlecasters to kidnap The Infernomancer? Because he was infested with Snuggly, who is DJ's creation and thus his responsibility.
Why is DJ now working with Snuggly? Because banishment didn't work/is too risky to leave indefinitely/has been banned by the Circle of Archmages and now he is trying to appease/restrain Snuggly while working on a better alternative.Last edited by Wraith; 2011-08-22 at 04:23 PM.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
rocketpony fanfiction engine: engaged
- Fake Snuggly bursts out of child, and then proceeds to kill a whole bunch of people in the crowd, specifically the ones who scream, leaving a few who have tried to hide themselves, or just keep quiet.
Suddenly battlecasters come in through the roof! The day is saved!
Then the battlecasters say something to the tune of "Ah, this one's finally hatched." Maybe they crack a few jokes about the dozens of people who've just died. Say something about "come back to the castle with us, your brothers are waiting." Everyone flies away, leaving shocked witnesses to spread a gospel of the treachery of the battlecasters, and maybe their master?
PROBLEM: It relies on people taking their senses seriously in a world where you can go to college to major in giving other people acid trips.
COUNTERPOINT: So does basically any plan. - Fake Snuggly bursts out of child, and basically makes a mess. The King hears word of this, and launches an official royal investigation, and keeps things tightly under wraps because this is the best lead they've had on Celesto in a while, and the last thing they need is some clown in clown shoes walking all over the crime scene. However, aided by suggestion spells, Celesto starts a whisper campaign that the king has some ulterior motive for keeping this under wraps - he doesn't want other people in the kingdom knowing about the details of this new and excellent weapon he's developed, which is going to be deployed at some future date against Callanians deemed "less loyal". "Less loyal" may mean anything, probably means "non-wizards," in order to get the most people agitated.
PROBLEM: It relies on Celesto interacting with people without murdering them.
COUNTERPOINT: Celesto can be friendly! He was best friends with a murderer and a conspiratress. - Fake Snuggly bursts out of child, and then puts on a little crown. It is well-known that only kings can wear crowns. Ergo, Fake Snuggly is the King.
PROBLEM: It relies on Dominionites being dumber than dirt.
COUNTERPOINT: Most of them aren't main characters.

You know, looking at that panel by itself I can really imagine it as a family picture hanging on the King's wall. Especially because of the frame.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
The plan is really stupid. It could only work if everyone in the audience was a gullible moron willing to believe the worst of their leaders. It also depends on Dominic playing along with this. I could see the first condition being fulfilled since the comic portrays everyone but Dominic and Dominic supporters as colossal bigoted morons. That just leaves the second...but I'm sure whatever happens the comic will bend over backwards to put Dominic in the best possible light since Dominic can't be totally wrong.
On the plus side, that scene of King Dave and Snuggles is absolutely precious.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
...You know, I was going to email Mookie about how cute DJ and Snuggly look together there... But it went kind of wierd and he'd never read it anyway.
So instead, I'll post the wierd bits:
DJ and Snuggly look kind of like a guy and his dog. Is Snuggly a lisenced service beast, or something? Because that would be so cute. So cute. DJ would go into restaurants and the maitre'd would be all "Sir, you can't bring extraplanar monsters in here," and DJ'd be all "He's with me. As you can tell, he's a seeing-eye beast." And the maitre'd would be shocked by the bad pun. And then they'd eat dinner and DJ'd feel Snuggly scraps from under the table, and when it was time to leave he'd hold onto a tentacle and let Snuggly guide him out....It's really so darn cute. And DJ'd pet him under his eyelid and say "Does Snuggly want his snuggles? Yes he does! Yes he does! Snuggly loves his snuggles..." And we'd see that beneath his veneer of authority is a man who just loves his somewhat cowardly monster friend. I kind of love this idea and want to steal it, but it totally undermines their credibility as villains.
And you can see why I didn't send it, and I didn't feel like sending the remainder "in monday's strip, the king doesn't really look very menacing at all. In fact, he looks really cute."
Anyway, DJ and Snuggly, moe couplet 4-life, yo.LPs:

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
That makes a disturbing amount of sense! Doctor dominikudigan, you're a miracle worker.
Because then, even morbid curiosity couldn't get me to actually look into the threads again.
So I'm still way back on page like, 4, and I'm not going to go through it all jut yet. So... How badly did the sword of omens thing tick you guys off? Because it really ticked me off, and I pride myself on tolerance to the point of almost not having any convictions.
It's not the crystal in the center of the cruciform That makes a sword look like the sword of omens, it's the blatantly ripping off the sword of omens, you hack! curly quillions, the ricasso extensiony thing, and even the blade shape. It's like the one time he actually draws a sword, he has to copy/pate something, and then claim it's hard not to have made that copy look like the original.
Should have stuck with a suction dart over the fist...

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
DD's reached the point that it's got to get in-your-face offensive before it gets an outraged reaction in me. The Sword of Omens did get a reaction, but it was at eyebrow raising level.
It wasn't that Mookie ripped off the Sword of Omens. It was that he previously pointed out in apparent jest that he was holding back making a Thundercats reference, and then throws one in anyway. And then tries to excuse it instead of admitting it was done on purpose.
