Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Called it like 911.
I want to call the chance thing a pun, but with no bolding, he probably didn't even see it. This is Mookie we're talking about.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Celesto is trying to frame Snuggles and the king with those tentacle monsters. Chaosploding people would just implicate Celesto since that's his MO. That and Celesto doesn't really want to kill Dominic -- he's still trying to convince Dominic that his way is the right and only way to fix the world.
Then again, does the general public even know about Celesto's chaosploding or the existence of Snuggles? It probably wouldn't be too difficult to frame an extradimensional horror for chaosploding -- killing people in a horrible nightmarish manner is just what the public would expect of an abomination from beyond.
Man, just about everything in this arc has been way more complicated than necessary. Celesto's frameup scheme, the sword scrying...and Dominic isn't any closer to finding a way to deal with King David and Snuggles than he was an arc ago.
Kudos though for Chance's inevitable turn to the Deegan side being somewhat justified for once. Even if he doesn't agree with Dominic on anything, Dominic did take a bunch of tentacles for him.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
I'm willing to delay the criticism about Celesto's plan for later, when we learn what it is.
Still from what we know so far the plan consists of two parts: Show the beast killing people, and show a connection between the beast to the king.
Isn't the second part enough?
Proving that the beast is evil seems like a relatively easy task compared to connecting it to the king.

And Dominikudigan's unexpected political plot is more interesting than the actual comic again...
In about the same way a morbidly obese man hanging in his sofa watching TV all day is going somewhere when he heaves himself into the kitchen to order pizza and fetch another beer from the fridge during commercial break.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
It's not that I'd like Dominic Deegan better if the bad guys won all the time, and in the grim darkness of the past-present with magic there was only war.
But if Celesto would temper his psychopathy with the merest touch of practicality, gosh, it would make him ever so credible.
Like, he's got a whole mess of tentacles there. He could war-shiv the kid and justify himself post-facto. Unless he's meant to be stalling for time because he doesn't actually want to do this? The reason he keeps talking is because, when it comes right down to it, he doesn't really want to have to do this, but it's the only option that he feels he has?
That could have credibility if he hadn't waited in the middle of a densely populated town for TIM to show up so they could shoot lasers every which way.Who makes fabulous avatars? MEMNARCH makes fabulous avatars!

I live today's comic. Mostly because I keep myself in the delusion that Dominic will die and the comic will feature Chance Masters as new hero.

Am I the only one who got a final battle between neo and smith vibe from this? "Why, WHY do you persist?!"

Hey, many readers liked that decision. Many psychologists specialising in the formation of romantic bonds between two individuals after a shared tragedy, specifically forced rape due to peer pressure and cultural mores in fictional adolescents, wrote in to Mookie to tell him how realistic and great his approach was. So great guys.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Yeah, I remember Celesto's absolutely nonsense plan... thing is, he's been discovered and is better off killing all witnesses and retreating. I don't know how widely known his MO is (he was taken into custody for going all collateral damage man on a small town, rather than his previous chaosplodings) and nobody really knows how tentacling the masters kid would implicate the King. Is it common knowledge that DJ Callan and Snuggles are BFFs? Nobody knows. Or maybe it isn't known, but the battlecasters could be able to deduce it, but it wouldn't matter unless the Battlecasters were honest law enforcers, which isn't too likely because EVIL CORRUPT KINGDOM.
On Dominikudigan: there is some translation sorcery at work. Dominikudigan just said "as long as people keep reading this crap I don't have to change" more or less...

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
All he says is "Thanks to my magic, the king will be implicated." I take it to mean he's magically lifting magical fingerprints or something like that. Of course, since a Cosmic Horror is involved, the Battlecasters will probably take over the crime scene like they did when Lynn's Brook exploded. I guess we don't know that they won't look at all the evidence and announce "Well, there's no way around it: It looks like we're the perps here!"....
Then again, "Thanks to my magic" is pretty vague. Maybe he means he'll just use his magic to mind control everyone into blaming the King.
EDIT: Also, this totally counts as him retroactively justifying his theft by defaming the Masters' characters, and I'm totally marking it on my Bingo sheet.
Come on, Chance! Throw yourself onto the tentacles! You know you want to!

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Celesto has been discovered by
a) an apparent sexual deviant drifter, whose primary current defender is a well-known killer and sadist, and further whose so-called "visions" unfortunately won't stand in a court of law, and
b) a child who everyone is pretty sure is having a seizure, or a hallucination, who he was planning to kill anyway.
Celesto has a lot of problems, like being completely off-his-horse-and-back-on-it-but-now-he's-upside-down crazy, a preposterous hypocrite who suggests that Chance must die because he might hurt people at some point in the future and doesn't feel too bad about killing basically half a town for no real reason, and I guess how he keeps his hair two-tones while he's out in the wilderness? but I think that as far as witnesses go, he's got this locked up pretty good.Last edited by rocketpony; 2011-08-10 at 05:01 PM.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Masters Snr. is reasonalbe, considered he's surrounded by useless crazy people.
Bronto the Battle Butler isn't that bad either. He's taking on a duelist with his fists, but I'm assuming that's a blunt fencing sword. Plus in action adventure worlds the big punchy guy taking on all comers is a staple.
Everyone else is either useless or nuts, because there's no freaking way a single duelist can defend a crazy sword-swinging boy in an open room against a whole hall of combatants.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Szark's defense is too good? It's not like he's funneling people into a choke point, he's in a wide open space! He can be surrounded! Unless he's got some magical ability to be in multiple places at once that he can fight off Bronto and keep other people from grabbing Chance at the same time. Goddamnit Mookie.

Huh. I was really expecting Mookie to make a joke about Szark being able to take multiple men at once. ("I'm used to doing it from behind/in groups" type thing)

So, is Chance talking to the butler or still in Mindscape mode and nearly killed his family's loyal servant?

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Remember how there was a little gem that Szark wore that summoned the police if he ever went crazy?
Then again, I guess crazy in that context means if he ever started just attacking people. Attacking them enough to draw blood, maybe? Maybe that's why this particular piece of setting is so easily ignored?
In other news, how did Chance get over there.
Are Szark's defenses really so good that he was standing with his back to Chance, fending off the wildly thrown strikes, while simultaneously defending himself from the battle butler, and everyone at the tournament, all the while refusing to say anything that would make anything more understandable, opting instead to gibber like a lunatic?
Or are we back in Maltak where you can be ambushed on a featureless plain?Last edited by rocketpony; 2011-08-11 at 05:55 AM.

The way I remember it, he had to trigger the gem manually. Which means that in case he went on a psycho rampage, it was more or less useless.

Re: Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, Mk. XXXVIII: This Show Blew My Boogeyman
Going back one day, it looks like both. Which means, hilariously, that that photoshop job of Chance standing around in the dueling place shouting randomly is probably correct.
Also, poor nameless guy, all he wants is a close relationship with Thunder, but the master keeps them apart.Spoiler

Is Bronto a pun or a reference or something? I don't get it.
