Re: The Order of the Tree
Very nice comic. Great art, great humor, creative characters.
One nitpick though:

Re: The Order of the Tree
I absolutely noticed that (about Tonic), and spent a while wondering if I should change what she said.
Tonic is supposed to be really liberal. So while she believes Queenie should be punished for evil things, she doesn't believe Queenie is beyond redemption. She's the kind of person who recognises Redcloak is Evil, but also thinks Redcloak is a good guy because of the work he does.
Bear in mind that Tonic isn't particularly anti-evil. She has no problem with mistreating neutral people (comic #5) for being socially weird, or good people (comic #18) for not sharing her views.
Also, she had an agenda there. She's trying to convince Oak that it's okay to steal all of Queenie's things, and she's not above stretching and exaggerating her views in an argument. If she was in Oak's place (and, say, King had tricked her into punishing evil), she'd say very different things.
I put way too much thought into this. (I'll save you from the 'why Fern didn't act differently in this strip' essay)
...and I'll fix my spelling mistakes, sorry :( Inkscape doesn't have a spellchecker so words I don't know how to spell get missed when I proofread!

Re: The Order of the Tree
Whilst I was going on about Fern should have done x and Fern should have done y, as somebody who shares some personality traits with her it's pretty easy to see why she might not have acted differently to the way that she did. Also - it's one thing to have ideas about what ought to be done when you're watching a situation after the fact - it's quite another to have these ideas whilst the situation is happening to you.
Also, I hope you weren't taking my criticisms as meaning I don't like your comic: I still do, if I didn't I wouldn't bother saying anything at all!

Re: The Order of the Tree
I got an infraction for that exact word a while ago, so I can confirm that it is against the rules. With any luck, you'll be able to change it before the mods visit divine retribution upon thy head. :P
I don't mean to brag - it just sort of happens.

Re: The Order of the Tree
That's why, just to be safe, my comic follows the traditional JPRG route of staying swearless, with the exception of hell and apparently Japan's favorite safe swear: bastard.
In other news: I praise your characterization Oppolo!Currently playing a "blind" (Miraluka) sniper in a Star Wars SAGA Edition RP

Re: The Order of the Tree
Wow! I need to explore all the options a bit more.
I fixed #4, and changed the contentious word in #28. It just slipped me by unnoticed, I guess it's easy to do because swearing is so much part of casual language. It's hard to write characters like Smokey and Forrest when you can't swear (since, particularly for Forrest, they're the kind of person who ought to swear a lot!)
Incidentally, I can't believe bastard isn't caught by the filter! Is it not such a bad word in the USA?
Anyway, here is strip #29, in which some things happen (including a celebrity cameo.)

Re: The Order of the Tree
a) That was not a celebrity cameo I expected when I read 'celebrity cameo' that said: interesting interpretation of said celebrity. I really like her... hair.
b) I was all impressed at Oak's observation at the beginning of this update, until I realised it was an observation even I should have been able to make given the art styleSpoilerthe fact that the gnome's alive, not the fact that she's a gnome. Dunno how long she'll stay alive at this rate...
c) Speaking of observations: I only just now noticed that Oak has sandals, that's a nice detail, actually.
d) Now would be about the right time for the application of thumbs to the eyes, I think, Fern: you've already got the mouth occupied after all. I do not going to think she's going to put her thumbs into his spirally eyes, I'd be somewhat impressed if she did though.
d)SpoilerDo summoned creatures disappear if the summoner is incapacitated in D&D? [I can check that on the d20srd site] Do summoned creatures disappear if the summoner is incapacitated in the world of Order of the Tree? [I will probably have to wait until next time to find out]
e) I was pleased to see Oak does care about his sister after all, by the by. I suspected he did, but he wasn't acting like it beforehand.

Re: The Order of the Tree
No, vampirate gnome, no! YOU MUST LIVE! you've already been hanged, what's the worst that could happen?!
...Don't answer that.
Well, murderess or not, there's still the sparkly non-vampire to worry about.
edit: Also, self-defenestration and generally being the Kool-Aid guy seems to be a running gag now. Y'know, I wounder if there are any RPG systems that have rules for broken glass

Re: The Order of the Tree
Th-that's actually a good question! Does anybody know what the rules actually say about this?
Well I have a little time to worry about that while we check in with an old friend, in strip #30. Last time we saw King, he was going to Forrest's home to get the bacchae's caravan.

Re: The Order of the Tree
Well, first up, I don't think king is really a model paladin.
Secondly, while they are more neutral here, bacchae as still technically feinds, so he could get away with some hatecrimes... at least by D&D systems.
Thirdly, even though he dosn't have an inkling of what's going on back at the House Of Ye Huge B*****, it's pretty clear he has a rush on.
Also, isn't silence arcane?

Re: The Order of the Tree
I knew the Bacchae were self destructive, but still, wow.
It takes some skill to riot TWICE in a row, within 3 minutes and multiple fatalities and still not take out the target

Re: The Order of the Tree
How amazing is that king?
dealing with a crowd of a race he hates so, being patient with them, slowly riding away on his horse as they rabble to migraine-hood, and STILL having patience to get the little unexcited child a small fudge-cone.

Re: The Order of the Tree
I love it! The characters' facial expressions remind me of Peanuts for some reason, but I guess that just adds to the overall charm. It's one of those comics that make me smile, probably because it doesn't take itself too seriously. King and Ace's whole oneupsmanship spree makes me laugh, as did Tonic's random little song. I think Tonic and Gina's relationship is hilarious too. And useless party members like Forrest? Yeah, totally not your typical adventuring party.
I just hope this comic is still going to continue, because I'd really love to read more.
