A435: You still have to make climb checks, but if you have a climb speed you can always take 10 on a climb check, even when threatened in combat. This means if your climb bonus + 10 is greater than the climb DC, you automatically succeed on the climb.

A436: The racial bonus varies from creature to creature. Monkeys get a +8 bonus to Climb and Acrobatics for example, while Centipedes only get a +4 bonus to Climb and Stealth. As Vanaras don't have a listed racial bonus, I would say they don't get one.

A437: Not by RAW. According to the CRB, under the Climb skill:

You need both hands free to climb, but you may cling to a wall with one hand while you cast a spell or take some other action that requires only one hand.
If you had three hands, you should be able to cling to the wall with one hand and shoot a bow with the other two. However, while Vanaras have a tail, the tail does not count as a hand. It would not be an unreasonable houserule to allow you to cling to the wall with your tail, but it would be just that - a houserule.

Apologies that this goes back a few days. I was working on something and came across this under the familiar's rules:

Attacks: Use the master's base attack bonus, as calculated from all his classes. Use the familiar's Dexterity or Strength modifier, whichever is greater, to calculate the familiar's melee attack bonus with natural weapons.
Alas, there isn't something similar under animal companions. So odds are, you're likely remembering that little clause from the familiar's entry under the wizard class.

    Q 441

I'm building a (for now, theoretical) build for Pathfinder using some 3.5 stuff ported in. It's a teleportation-focused build, so obviously the Conjuration (Teleportation) arcane school is perfect. And then I noticed the favored class bonus for elf and gnome. They're worded differently but as far as I can tell are identical:

    Gnome
Add +1/2 to the number of uses per day of arcane school powers. This increase only applies to arcane school powers available at 1st level and normally usable a number of times per day equal to 3 + the wizard’s Intelligence modifier.

    Elf
Select one arcane school power at 1st level that is normally usable a number of times per day equal to 3 + the wizard’s Intelligence modifier. The wizard adds +1/2 to the number of uses per day of that arcane school power.

I'm just unsure exactly what it adds. It adds "1/2," but half of what? Of the previous total? So if I had Int 18 (+4), normally I'd be able to use the ability 7 times. Does that mean that, at each level up (including 1st level), it would instead give me three additional uses per day? If I get up to Int 20 (+5), that would give me the ability 8/day normally, would it start adding 4/day at each level up? That can't be right, as you'd end up with some ridiculous number of a very useful ability However, it does say:

The following options are available to the listed race who have wizards as their Favored Class, and unless otherwise stated, the bonus applies each time you select the listed Favored Class reward.

So it sounds like you do get that many uses. Now, the build I'm using only takes Wizard for 4 levels, but still, that would be a large number of uses of a swift action teleport. For a teleporting-gish character, this is incredible.

So does it actually work as I described above, or am I missing something?

As per my reading, the main difference between the two is that the elf one lets you select any of the 1st level arcane school abilities (even one that you don't possess) as long as it fits into the 3+Int/day restriction.

While the gnome one works for your arcane school power selected at 1st level, even if it doesn't fit into the usual 3+Int/day framework.

As for what the 1/2 means, been there done that, but it's basically Paizo's fault for poorly spelled out stuff...sort of.

It means what it means, not what it seems to mean.

It seems to mean that you get half your total amount or half of something...no, what you get is "just" half, 0.5, you know?

So you get an extra half an use per day and unless you select the bonus for two levels (not necessarily consecutive), you won't get anything out of it because you won't have a full extra use per day.

I see, that makes a lot more sense. Since I'm going Wizard 4, it still works out, an 2 extra uses of an ability like that is still fantastic. Still, the wording of that ability is among the worst I've seen. Thanks for the clarification.

I don't have access to whatever DotU is, but if the ability is listed as an Immediate Action: yes. If it's anything else: no.

However, unlike a swift action, an immediate action can be performed at any time—even if it's not your turn.

A441+ The way I see it, the gnome favored class ability adds +1/2 to the number of uses of all 1st level arcane school powers that you might be able to use. The elf fav class ability on the other hand adds +1/2 to the number of uses of any one arcane school power chosen at first level (whether you have to be able to use that ability at 1st level is unclear). In both cases the abilities have to be usable 3 + Int mod times per day to qualify, of course.

Quote Originally Posted by McToomin View Post

The wording is actually fine and can only be interpreted in one way. Adding +1/2 to the number of uses can only mean one thing: x+0.5, and never x+x/2. This was an error in functional understanding on your part (that's not meant to be an insult, only a statement).

A442 Yes, though I wouldn't call it an "easy way". Takes a standard action to mutate, then a standard action to use mutagenic touch, and then a touch attack to hit the caster. Plus, it requires that you know which mental stat you should debuff, which is often hard without a certain amount of metagaming. Might be half-decent if you had time to prepare though.

A443 A druid can't assume a form larger than Huge, Beast Shape only goes to Huge size. But no, I don't think there's any Huge animals capable of wielding weapons, gorillas and dire apes are the largest animals with hands afaik.

Q 444 The Anti-Paladin's fiendish boon for a bonded creature says that it is the same as a summon monster spell, save that the duration is permanent and the antipaladin can only gain the service of a single creature and that creature must either have the chaotic and evil subtypes or it must be a fiendish animal. Does this mean it will be affected by Augment Summoning Feat?

A444 Technically no, because spell-like abilities are not spells. But as a GM I would allow it if the player was willing to invest two feats to get a modest enhancement bonus.

A445 Yes, the feat gives you a bloodline, so the robes can increase your effective level. Wearing the robes still doesn't let you use higher-level powers though.

A446 I would say it adds and removes the chosen spell from spells known as you put it on and off respectively. A very generous GM might even allow you to choose the spell every time you put it on although in such a case I would personally impose the 24 hour rule.

    Q447

Does resistance granted by two sources stack, or overlap?

The case in point is a 5th level Aasimar Sorcerer with the Celestial bloodline. They have "acid resistance 5, cold resistance 5, and electricity resistance 5" because they're Aasimar and "resist acid 5 and resist cold 5" through the 3rd level Bloodline Power of the Celestial bloodline.

So does that mean the character would have resistance 10 to acid and cold with resistance 5 to electricity?

    A439 The table says that:

If it is activated by a command word, its cost is: Spell level x caster level x 1,800 gp. However, activating through a command word is a standard action, so it wouldn't be of much use.

If it is Use-activated or continuous: Spell level x caster level x 2,000 gp. Also:
If a continuous item has an effect based on a spell with a duration measured in rounds, multiply the cost by 4. If the duration of the spell is 1 minute/level, multiply the cost by 2, and if the duration is 10 minutes/level, multiply the cost by 1.5. If the spell has a 24-hour duration or greater, divide the cost in half.
So, the Ring of the Charging Lion's cost would be 2 (spell level) x 4 (minimum caster level) x 2000 x 4 (duration measured in round) = 64000 gp.

A449 The power has a cap of +5 when stacking with existing enhancement bonuses, which it says right in the text about the divine bond.

A450 It doesn't. It's a fire spell. It's in the metal domain for clerics.

A451 The decks isn't really considered part of the rules, so it's up to your DM. My guess is, pick one. My DM always had us pick what kind of damage we were doing before reading off the affects.

Q452 Is there anyway in Pathfinder to be able to draw potions more quickly? Quick draw specifically says it can't and I honestly can't find anything else.

Q453 Does the Alchemists Archetype, Beastmorph, allow the alchemist to, select the ability score increase instead of one of the other abilities that the equivalent spells offer?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A449 The wording didn't really change my answer in the least. Read.
These bonuses can be added to the weapon, stacking with existing weapon bonuses to a maximum of +5, or they can be used to add any of the following weapon properties: axiomatic, brilliant energy, defending, disruption, flaming, flaming burst, holy, keen, merciful, and speed. Adding these properties consumes an amount of bonus equal to the property's cost (see Table: Melee Weapon Special Abilities). These bonuses are added to any properties the weapon already has, but duplicate abilities do not stack.
A450 Honestly, you got me. It can go either way with that one. It's up to your DM. My guess would be that it, since it's a spell your getting from your specialized school, then it will count as that. An unkind DM might say it's still an opposed school spell, but that is paizo's intent. Odd ain't it? I look for a more official answer and PM you if I find anything.

A448 You can't use normal alchemical cartridges, no. But you could use special metal cartridges if your GM allows to buy or make some. Just because they're not listed in the SRD, doesn't mean they don't exist in the game world. The rules do state that metal cartridges are essentially like alchemical ones but sturdier, so it's not that much of a stretch.

A449 There are no hard limits on effective weapon enhancement bonus. With a paladin or magus and a few spells, you can get way higher than +10. That is, of course, if you can find or afford a +10 weapon to begin with.

A450 I would say this is a case of specific trumping general. Since the spell is explicitly handled as a metal spell, the prohibition rules would not apply.

A451+ As Arillius' group, our group also follows the same ruling. If your weapon falls under more than one category, you can choose any one of them to apply. This makes the most sense, since it's your weapon's (or character's) ability, much like the higher critical multiplier where you can draw multiple cards and choose one.

A452 No, although with adventurer's sash, you may be able to draw it as part of a movement (much like a weapon).

A453 No. Those are size bonuses and your size doesn't change. Plus, mutagen already gives you a bonus to an ability score.

A454 The maneuvers were made to be used on an enemy. Still, similar situations have arisen in my games and for quite a few other people, so this has been a matter of debate. Generally the answer is yes, but there are no rules governing what happens if you use a combat maneuver on a willing ally and when such actions provoke attacks of opportunity from your enemies. Work it out with the GM beforehand.

Default Re: Simple Q&A Pathfinder (By RAW) I

Thank you, Keneth! Since you touched the subject:

Q455: Does the weapon enhancements and properties provided by the Magus' Arcane Pool stack with the ones provided by the Paladin's Divine Bond? By the wording, I would say that yes, but since both are enhancement bonuses, I'm at a loss.
Metal Perfection - a template for creatures born on Mirrodin.
True Ferocity - a simple fix for Orcs and Half-Orcs.
Monastic Magus - a spiritual successor to the Unarmed Swordsage.
Pathfinder-ish Synthesist - a simple fix making Synthesist Summoners follow polymorph rules.
Sword & Sorcery for Sneaky Scoundrels - rogue archetypes/fixes that aim to turn the rogue into a warrior/caster.
