Maybe I've messed up and misremembered, but I think he could have heard her say to Sayaka and Haruaki that she best hurry home soon because her aunt might be hysterical worrying about her. I did say he followed her quite a bit. I don't remember clarifying that he was in earshot of her parting message. I think it could be assumed that he might have been though.

It's more that this is a typical teenage response. When someone says "Hey, I'm attracted to you" and you aren't, teenagers generally feel incredibly uncomfortable (rather than saying "Sorry, maybe we can be friends"). I've decided Kina, as someone who doesn't know much about these kinds of situations, would choose silence and then overreact when she gets too annoyed rather than approach it more maturely at the beginning.

Shin is an entirely unremarkable man, enough so that people who are not in regular contact may have trouble recalling what he looks like, simply due to how ordinary he is. His facial structure tends slightly toward a pointed look, but it's not the sort of thing that sticks out. He does have a few small scars on his face (and more scattered across his body); a couple even run up into his short-cropped hair. He is typically seen with a very neutral expression on his face.
His mode of dress is also average; he wears the standard Shinigami uniform with no frills or similar decorations. He deviates from the normal uniform in only three ways: 1.)he wears a pair of black tabi boots (with thick tabi socks underneath); 2.)a pair of black gloves; 3.)a full-face black mask that he only wears when he's active in the field.
His belt is also a bit sturdier, with some basic 2nd Division equipment in a pouch on his right side, and his sword on his left side.

Endo Shin is a pragmatic, efficient man. While seems to have no actual friends in any division, he is a calmly professional individual when working with any division. His calm only fades when faced with genuine incompetence, which typically brings out frowning and clipped, biting sentences. He won't outright berate the other individual, but he will come very close.
Shin also has a tendency to give loyalty to organizations and ideas rather than people, which contributes to his standoffish nature.
Finally, Shin doesn't "party"; he might attend one or two official Division social events (such as they are in 2nd), but beyond that he keeps to himself, mostly via training and study.

Shin is, in fact, only ultimately loyal to 1 person: Nagamichi Soushi. His loyalty to 2nd, the Gotei, the Central 46, Soul Society, the Soul King...All of it is a fake.
His pragmatic "mask" hides a horribly bitter, nihilistic man. He grew up in Zaraki, and that taught him all he needed to know: existence is futile, be it as a Plus, a Mortal, or a Shinigami. Yet despite that, he has a stubborn streak 3 miles wide that means he refuses to throw himself in the jaws of the nearest Hollow. So he makes himself stronger. He made it so he wouldn't be a victim of Hollows, Pluses, or Shinigami. He crafted a mask of personality so that the full depths of his nature were hidden, to allow him to survive.
Of course, Soushi showed him a vision of a world where everyone else gets thrown in the jaws of Hollows, and he's totally okay with that. No more lies, no more meaningless fights; just survival, strength, and death.

Shin doesn't really talk about his past to his fellow Shinigami. The most they know is he's from the outer areas of the Rukon, that he has no family, and that he's fine with being a Shinigami.

He joined the Academy fairly young, coming in with an incredibly surly attitude, but thankfully smoothing away the rough edges within a year. He displayed talents that pointed him toward 2nd Division, and by the time he graduated, he was accepted.

In 2nd, he plateaued for a while before slowly improving again. These days, his biggest hurdle to being a seated officer is lack of Shikai; despite very good overall power, and enough hand-to-hand skill that he knows a Higher Hakuda, he doesn't quite have the "potency" that 2nd seems to desire. So he sits as one of the best Unseated, and takes part in a fair number of missions, though these days they've dropped off a bit, what with the "cold war" and all.

It was growing up in Zaraki that made Endo Shin decide nothing had an intrinsic meaning, especially the overall fight for survival. But he found he couldn't simply lay down and die, so he went to the Academy, a surly nihilist lost on the paths of life.
Then Soushi found him, and at first simply had talks of philosophy. Eventually, the conversations went odd places. Shin, being no fool, began to suspect something. Finally he confronted Soushi one day. For one reason or another, Soushi confided in him.
And Shin smiled. Finally, he'd found someone worth listening to. Someone who would help him pull the plug on the half-drowned rats of the decadent corruption that was Soul Society. Without an ounce of hesitation, he joined the eventual Vice-Captain of 8th Division in his plan to watch the world burn.
These days he mostly waits for orders from Soushi, occasionally feeding him information he feels may help "the cause" along, or warn Soushi if someone is on to him.

Shin's sword is a fairly standard katana. The sheath is flat black, as is the cloth-wrapped handle. The pommel has a slightly glossier black coating. The tsuba is a solid, glossy black square that's just large enough to cover most of his hand.

Zanjutsu: Average. Shin is competent with his sword, and has some skill with stealth-killing with it, but he'll be the first to admit he's not a blade master. This is emphasized by the fact that he does not have Shikai, and seems to be a couple of decades away from achieving it still.

Kido: Good. Shin has a solid grasp of Kido theory, and has a few kido he favors. His inability to use higher level kido is mostly an issue of power requirements, rather than control or skill.

Hohō: Expert. Shin's skill with Shunpo is fitting with his placement in 2nd Division. He has near-flawless technique, enough that he can match many Seated Officers in a race, and even approaches the skill of a few Vice Captains for speed, distance, precision, etc. Just as important, his endurance is incredible, again approximating the level of a higher Seated Officer. He has not mastered any specialist techniques, however.

Hakuda: Master. Shin flourished in Hakuda practice in the Academy, and quickly began trying to learn a half-dozen mortal martial arts, each of them different enough to cover each other's weaknesses. He tends to favor quick, brutal strikes that disable or kill with the fewest motions possible. As well, though the skills he displays most often tend to be sharp and almost stiff, he carries a surprising amount of flexibility.
He is an expert in the following mortal arts: Jujutsu, Xingyiquan, Bāguàzhǎng, Ditangquan,Lian padukan, and Fujian White Crane.
He has nearly mastered the Higher Hakuda .

Excellent Endurance: Shin's overall physical endurance is excellent, such that he has sometimes operated for 24 hours or more without rest (though he typically has to rest for a longer period than normal afterwards), and often letting him with a fight through sheer attrition. It seems to be a combination of physical stamina and sheer stubborn willpower.

Stealh: Shin has trained extensively to be as stealthy as possible; this extends beyond judicious use of Kyokko and into more "traditional" means of stealth. Endo Shin prides himself on his ability to remain undetected without utilizing Kyokko.

Other skills: Shin is an expert lockpick and escape artist. He has a fairly photographic memory, which means he can sneak in someplace, look at key documents, and leave to reproduce them later with no errors.

Shin is able to perform all of these Kido chant-less. His perference for these kido is due to his prioritization of "effectiveness over flashiness", and his tendency to dodge instead of block.

Bakudo:

• Bakudo 7: Sun Flash: One of the concealing bakudo, the user creates a cone of bright light from their cupped hands to temporarily blind an opponent.
• Bakudo 9: Hōrin (Disintegrating Circle): Causes an orange hued tendril with spiraling yellow patterns to erupt from the users hand and attempt to trap a target. the end of it remains in the hands of the user allowing them to control the path of the tendril before and after capture. The Kidō is able to connect with another one of itself if both have captured a target and bind them together. ("Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini!! Look upon yourself with horror and then claw out your own throat!")
• Bakudo 21: Sekienton (Red Smoke Escape): Creates a blast upon activation and is used like a ninja's smoke bomb.
• Bakudo 26: Kyokko (Curved Light): Hides the target from sight, by bending light. The spell has the ability to totally hide the presence and reiatsu of the user or specified object.
• Bakudo 30: Shi-totsu Sansen (Beak-Piercing Triple Beam): Forming a golden triangle with one's finger, it shoots three beams of light that pin the target to one place on a surface, slamming into his or her body in three places in a shape of an equilateral triangle.

Hado:

• Hado 4: Byakurai (Pale Lightning): The user fires a concentrated, powerful lightning bolt from their finger. ("Ye who rule over the skies! Lend me thy strength and cast Heaven's purifying light on my foes!")
• Hado 5: Foosu Misairu (Force Missile): Fires a single small blast of force; this blast will follow the designated target, giving a near guarantee of hitting.
• Hado 12: Soren Byakurai (Twin Lotus Pale Lightning): User fires a bolt identical to #4 Byakurai from each hand. Each hand can point in a different direction.
• Hado 19: Dantoudai (Guillotine Press): This hado sends a crescent blade of cutting energy at the target, and is particularly useful in severing bakudo spells below level 15.
• Hado 20: Foosu Misairu no Arashi (Force Missile Storm): Fires a series of missiles similar to #5 Foosu Misairu. It fires 20 missiles and can target up to 5 enemies.
• Hado 31: Shakkahō (Shot of Red Fire): Fires a ball of red energy at a target. ("Ye lord! Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south!")

Physical Strength: 50; Shin keeps himself in good shape, but generally doesn't go for brute, overwhelming power.
Offense: 70; Shin has a wide array of skills to bring to a fight, and tends to prefer an offensive pace to a defensive one. His Offense is geared more toward unarmed combat (including Higher Hakuda) than armed combat.
Defense: 50; While Shin certainly doesn't look to be hit, his defense mostly lies in his ability to move around, combined with some of his unarmed techniques.
Mobility: 70; As a member of 2nd Division, Shin is essentially required to be good at moving around the battlefield. He prefers short bursts of speed, but is fully capable of long distance travel. A fair bit of his martial arts skills emphasize movement as well.
Intelligence: 60; Shin has developed a keen mind that can pick out what seem to be inconsequential details, and discern their true meaning. He has a knack for reading people while giving nothing in return. However, his knowledge tends more toward practical experience and "street smarts" than ancient lore or advanced tactics or Kido.
Kidō/Reiatsu: 65; Shin has excellent control of his own Reiatsu and Reiryoku, such that he can minimize his signature greatly without resorting to specific Kido. His skill with Kido is aided mostly by his incredible control; his actual knowledge base of Kido doesn't range much above the 50s. As well, his Reiatsu seems to carry little "force" with it, though when he's trying to use it as a psychological weapon, it seems to work as a distraction by unsettling his opponents.

Hello all,

It is hard to find the time to write this, so please bare with me.

My mother (59) has been battling lung and throat cancer for the last 2 years, rather successfully. But, on last Friday she was diagnosed with a new spot of cancer in her lungs, of which is inoperable and terminal.

She may have as little as 1 month or maybe more, but it is terminal nonetheless.

I wanted to let you all know this, as i can not guarantee my activity during this time. I do not want to quit or anything, as i find this place and RP as a nice way to escape (even if briefly), and it makes me happy. i just want to make sure you are aware of my circumstances.

What i would ask is that if an RP is waiting on me, to please just PM me, and i will be notified in email. Normally i check the site throughout the day, but as i will not be around a computer all the time while i see to my mother, getting an email (on my phone), will alert me to check the site.

I will refrain from speaking on this anymore in the forum, as i know it isn't the place, but i do want to thank you all for any of your kind thoughts and words.
