Default Re: The Sin of Pride - Deathwatch

The chainswords from the ravenous horde sliced at Conall from all angles, a number of those blades striking him around the head and neck, since his helmet was still at his side. Unable to gain the upper hand, he planted his sacris into the body of one of the dead and pulled free his power sword, laying about like a man possessed ... possessed with faith and loyalty to the Emperor!

    Spoiler
    Show
    Lightning attack w/powersword: (3d100)[16][84][23](123) vs TN 54 (64 for size?) minimum dam: 21E/Pen 6

    Here's hoping!
Mag damage: If I counted correctly, Conall should hit twice, then does at least 4 DoSs on each hit ... and add a power weapon bonus. So that would be 8 Mag

That means down to 12 ... which is over 25% of current mag; so if there's a break test, it's taken at -10 (below 50% original magnitude).

As he cut down the hordes around him, he heard the call of "DEMON" and caught side of the beast at the end of the hall. The horns, the blade, the size ... definitely a bloodthirster of a dark god, and a hellhound. "Come to me, demon! Come to me!"

    Daemons!

Cibran quickly finished one last set of sutures, then headed over to the injured men, looking their wounds over. Turning to the nearest medical officer, he began,

I'll treat these. Keep anyone else with this sort of injury quarantined from the rest of the population. Find out what deck these wounded are coming from.

Beckoning for the wounded men to follow, he found what passed for an isolated space to treat them, grabbing a bottle of anesthetic along the way. Filling three syringes, he gave each a large dose. A dose that he'd feel, even with his altered physique. It was certainly enough to kill each of them, quietly and painlessly. These wounds were more than physical, and even his skills could not remove the taint of corruption from them.

Once they were still, he took off toward the daemons, shoving crewmen aside.

In the boarding tunnel there is a faint explosion as molten superheated fire washes over the strangely giant cybernetic conglomeration of flesh and metal. Before it can fire further its severed in half by the charge.

The horde are somewhat stunned as their semi-demonic metallic god is destroyed. The remaining ones then spin round and assault the massive marine...

The Storm Warden was brave, diving into the horde of daemons like that, at least. But the fool hadn't listened to him about the helmet. The apothecarion had taught him how to heal just about everything, but there's no cure for a lost head. He'd need some help to make it out of there in one piece.

He'd have to draw some of the daemons away. He bellowed,

For Rogal Dorn and Rynn's World!, and marched straight toward the nearest abominations.

The heavy mechanical blades attached to his arms were intended for tearing apart the thick armor of a starship, rescuing trapped shipmen from collapsed bulkheads. He wagered they'd do just fine against daemonic flesh.

Devin grins as he sees the boarding attachment tearing away. He lashes out with his massive boots, clearing the way for his retreat back to safety.

He'd be fine when the oxygen was cut from this section. His foes? They'd suffocate, and he would simply laugh. Such was their sin. This wasn't the most glorious way to slay them, but it was the most sensible. They couldn't simply replace any armsmen that would be inevitably injured or slain in such a fight, after all.

As the huge demon attacked Conall, he brought up his power sword, a well-crafted relic carried by unnumbered and unnamed heroes of the Deathwatch. He almost grinned as he caught the blade, the flickering dark flame reflected in his eyes as he snarled back at the demon.

"I have found your measure, demon, and you are ... lacking. Go back to your dark masters with this message - the Deathwatch defies you!" With blinding speed, the huge warrior stepped forward and lashed out, his blade sweeping out to try and catch the demon before it could move.

"The Storm Wardens deny you!" Stepping to the side to avoid a clumsy counterstrike, Conall stabbed forward, slipping past the demon's defenses again.

"And I, Conall, loyal warrior of the Emperor, has destroyed you!" A spin and slash, coming under the demon's huge blade, then rising up to catch it unawares.

Though that does not protect it from the power of the massive sword that scythes down with bone shattering force hacking deep into its back and spine!

Even as the massive blade hacks into the flesh-hounds spine Cibran rises and brings down the adamantine shears, electric fields crackling around them and with a single colossal shearing crunch the beast's head is severed cleanly from its shoulders. Molten ichor spraying onto the deck plating where it bubbles and fizzes melting down into the metal before it slowly fades away in a cloud of sulphorous vapours.

Like Devin the battle for Cibran and Conall seems to be over. As the demons are vanquished and the Sin of Pride breaks free from the cruiser the well trained armsmen and Arbite shock squads prowl the corridors and stair wells and vents with fire, shock maul and shotgun slaughtering hundreds of vile heretics. Slave servitors and the lowest ranks of crew dogs soon dragging bodies to airlocks where they are unceremoniously sucked into the void.

While Seim mans the Hecuter battery the other marines are free to report back to the shrine, their systems monitoring the constant chatter of communications and sensor readings as they Sin battles the enemy fleet. All of the Deathwatch marines are rocked on their feet as the cruiser shears through the enemy assault cruiser, a fierce sense of satisfaction as the traitor Astartes are condemned to a fiery death or a long slow suffocation in the void as their suit's power systems slowly go dark. The emergency warp jump is well timed. Enemy bombers, torpedoes and gravimetric charges coming terrifyingly close to the Sin before she jumps, dropping back into the Gethsemane system in an area of quiet space.

Returning to the chapel the chapter serf's are quick to respond to your needs. Fresh black robes to don while your armour is scrubbed and purified. The medical bay ready to triage the wounds inflicted upon you and the armourers honoured to take your weapons and strip and re-consecrate them.

A few hours later as the ships slows entering a stationary orbit above the planet a cherubium arrives, a hand written scroll from the Lord Captain asking if the Veteran Sergeant will join him in his quarters to meet the captain from the other Imperial cruiser.

For the others, in the Deathwatch's sanctum the hololithic terrain maps begin to generate a detailed view of the snow capped planet below. A forbidding place to fight over and likely all to be focused upon the central city of Damaris that is the key to the planet below.

Gathering his gear, Conall gave Cibran a salute before returning to the chapel. "Well fought, Brother Cibran. Here's to more successful engagements against the enemy, wherever he may be."

Once back in the chapel, the Storm Warden used the transit time to clean his weapons and armor, visit the apothecary, and pray. When the Deathwatch gathered in the ready room, staring at a holopic of Damaris, he nodded to the others. "Barring specific orders from the Sargeant, how best do we see ourselves supporting the coming conflict?"

[spoiler]As always, I think the Brute Squad is best used to either a) Break into areas too tough for the others, or b) take on opponents too skilled for our acolytes and rogue traders. No need for a specific encounter, but if something comes to mind, we could take part. Heck, this might be the time that a group of Chaos Marines join the events, requiring a little Genetic Freak on Genetic Freak action (although much less disturbing than I made it sound ...)[spoiler]

Cibran thought back to the colonists on his chapter's new home. He'd worked closely with a few, as they laid the foundations for the fortress monastery and New Rynn City, and couldn't help but feel a sympathy for the people on the planet below.

I think the two options for the DW are either chill out on the Sin until the enemy arrives or find some project down on the surface, without stepping on the the toes of the DH or RT parties. Perhaps the Marines take command of the ground defence? It depends on how the space/ground ratio of the campaign splits, I guess. I'm in favor of hanging out on the surface, as we're more likely to run into something to do.

While the Deathwatch contingent's sergeant is serving as a glorified bodyguard, Seim spends his time like all Space Marines spend their downtime: constant training.
