Well, there really is a cloud there. It's not an illusion or anything like that. If it allows her to see through obscurement, though, she'd see what looks like a well dressed person (in an archaic fashion) holding a fishing rod, sitting as a normal person would in a boat, apparently fishing.

The figure up above starts. "Oh, you can see me? How delightful!" The fishing line retracts, and then the cloud descends to ground level. A strange and very solid woman steps out, a colorful dress billowing lightly about her; a large, wide brimmed hat sits upon her head, with flowers and what might be peaches pinned to the crown. "I'm Tarin! Pleased to meet you!" She curtsied daintily. "I was trying to catch some friends, but if you all can see me, I guess that won't work! Not that way, anyway."

"Well, I wanted to have a tea party, but I realized that I didn't know anyone to invite! So I decided I was going to just hook some." One gets the impression that she was quite literally intending to catch people as one would catch fish and force them to be her friends and go to her tea party.

Tarin giggles. "Well, of course! How else do you catch friends? Unless they can see you, of course. Then you'll never catch any." She stops to think for a moment. "Maybe if I made the hook invisible..."

Hooking people isn't really the best way to make friends. Couldn't you just talk to people instead? Those that can see you, that is. Sophie's tone is not judgemental. She knows ghosts percieve the world in very strange ways.

"Talk... to people?" Tarin considers the idea for a moment. "But, if I talk to them... what will we do at the tea party? We've already talked. You can't talk twice."

Of course you can. You can talk as much as you want, as long as you have new things to talk about. You should give it a try. Sophie doesn't imagine anyone hooked up and forced to have a tea party wanting to talk to Tarin again. But she won't say it outright. Best to ease her into a different idea. How did you arrive here? I haven't seen you here before.

"Oh, I drifted in on the breeze." Tarin looks around. "This place seemed so... so nice, and so quaint, I just had to stop here for a while! I quite like it here, really." She frowns for a moment. "Well... we're talking now. Soooooo.... does that mean you'll come to my tea party?"

I don't see why not, Sophie says with a smile. And where do you come from? She needs to know whether Tarin is a deceased soul or not.

"Yaay!" Tarin tries to hook her arm into the crook of Sophie's elbow, and then pull her along. "come along, then, the tea is getting cold!" She completely ignores Sophie's question.
