Marigold needed one egg. So she went to the store and bought one egg.

Explains the Joke:

). What they are not sold as is individually. But Marigold momentarilty forgot that and embarrassed herself by buying just the one egg she needed.

Poor marten. He was doing so well at being upbeat and happy. he had this relationship with a hot girl who was fun to be around. There was no real pressure since she was going to be leaving soon, and life was good. Now we get this. Padma seems to be getting freaked out over how attached she is getting, which I guess is causing some sort of desire to distance herself from him to avoid getting even more attached, and marten isnt getting it so he is going to get all depressed and angsty again, and ARRRGH!
