Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
's cool, Glyphstone. I just wanted to make sure we were all on the level.
My OCD wasn't as bad as Hanners' was, but it was pretty bad. If I touched anything that I thought was unclean or possibly poisonous, I had to wash my hands incredibly. If my family gave a time when they were out and went even a single minute over it, I'd panic, thinking they'd died. When they left the house and came back, I had to undergo a ritual to make sure that they weren't someone who had replaced my family while they were out, because I thought that my life was the Truman Show. In fact, Hanners' earlier mention of DJ Phalliz was one of the few things in fiction that represents a big part of OCD- images or thoughts that you'll do things that you despise and have panic attacks about. For us both, it was the image of killing our loved ones.
As such, I consider Hanners to be the best portrayed example of OCD in fiction that I know of, although it is used for comedy sometimes, but then Jeph has OCD himself so that's okay.
While this had a trigger, it was not the result of abuse perse- sexual abuse by a neighbour triggered it, but it's a genetic issue, as most OCD is.
While it might not be comfortable to read that about Hanners, it's not an exaggeration of what OCD can be like.i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me

Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
Interesting to hear from some OCD folks about Jeph's treatment of the disorder (I didn't know he suffered from it himself). I always kind of figured that Hannelore's issues were a bit exaggerated from real life, but apparently it's a realistic portrayal. Very interesting indeed...

Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
I love the way the floor is obviously curved in such a large room. That's great.
Although if the station is spinning to create gravity, wouldn't a huge window pointing directly at the Earth give people motion sickness or something?

Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
I don't think so, since motion sickness is usualy caused by varied acceleration with no point of reference for it - car driver is much less likely to get sick then a passenger behind him, because he is focused on the outside reference frame. Here all the people feel a stable acceleration, which shouldn't cause sickness.
In a war it doesn't matter who's right, only who's left.

Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
My initial reaction was "Marigold's hair isn't that long is it?" followed by "Nope, it isn't" and "Hanners needs to buy some lipstick that lasts longer"
And yes, "what is Faye doing on the ship?"

I thought it was Faye too, based on the grandmother comment. Also,

Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
Should I be worried about understanding most of what was said in this comic? (Not that I could actually make any intelligent comments on it if I was there, but I have at least heard all that terminology).

What, you've never been around nerds? That sort of thing would be perfectly normal!
Marigold should start talking manga and WoW, and Marten, music. Somewhere in a crowd like this there are bound to be otakus and music fans who are obsessive about their hobbies as about science.

Am I the only one that thinks, demographically anyway, that this station which supposedly contains the "best and brightest scientists" has similar demographics to your standard American college campus? I don't know, a lot of the scientists up there seem pretty young to me.

Re: Questionable Content 4: Attack of the 60-Inch AnthroPC
I actually smiled at this one.
But yes, Jeph can only write college students. Think of an adult in this comic who doesn't talk or act a little like a snarky 20-something or a caricature of an adult.

Wow Marten, real smooth. He gave him a topic to talk about, and a go-for-it singal. Nice work.

I can see Pokemon and space-time tensor fields going together. That might be the secret behind Mew and Mew-two.

Yeah, smooth Marten, real smooth. I'm sure both of them will appreciate it.
