He also guessed Lyra, which really impressed me. I did stump him with the kindly man from A Song of Ice and Fire, however. That one was pretty obscure imo.

This will probably reveal my callous and emotionless nature, but I really don't get why everyone gets so sad at Spike potentially growing up and eventually leaving Twilight. They would have had a wonderful life together at that point and it would be a gradual change (he'd almost certainly acquire additional independence as he got older). It just seems odd to me to want things to stay the same forever.

Pony leg = length of pony body = length of head/neck combined.
Minimum leg thickness is 1/2 the maximum, where it hits the body. It's not a direct taper, however, so a straight cone shape won't help. The characteristic smooth gradient of the curve would be necessary.

When I was a little boy, I posted in the best ponythreads ever here on GiantITP, and being a budding supervillain even then, I began the bondage movement here with the help of my old girlfriend, Shimmer Snowflake. She was so beautiful, so graceful... but then she starting going out with that Midnight girl, and broke my heart! I've still got duct tape over my left atrium, you know. Anyway! One day, I decided that the entire thread needed to be tied up somehow, but I couldn't do it! The one time I tried, DBC came along after me and untied everyone, like the bird that ate the bedcrumbs behind Hansel and Gretel. Yes, that's a true part of the story, shut up.

So, I joined the Guild of Chains, and bided my time until I could build - THIS! Behold, Thanqol the Platypus! It is my new Totalthreadbondageinator! With this, I shall tie up all the threads in the tri-state area! And all I need is a power source!

Which, admittedly, should have been Shimmer Snowflake, but even though the Amazon description said that the power chamber was large enough to tie up a pegasus in, it's really not. There's no room for the wings. So I said to myself, who could possibly be as pretty and bondage-prone as Shimmer Snowflake, and isn't Lix, because if I put Lix in there the whole machine would probably overload. Rightio everypony (hurhur), I watched a couple of episodes and here are my opinions that everyone has to care about because I'm awesome.

When I first heard about this before it was aired, I was actually really looking forward to it. However, looking around the internet, it would seem that I am the only one who’s been left a little disappointed. Now, as an animation student, I know good animation when I see it, and for a children’s TV series and all the cheap animation shortcuts these kind of shows tend to use, the animation itself is pretty damn good, and visually, it looks fantastic. It has its funny moments and some of the characters are kind of likable. For what it is - My Little Pony - it's a pretty alright adaptation. (Seeing as the original was the Devils work)
However, I fail to see why it has become so popular. With the fan base this show has gotten, I was half expecting it to be a humorous parody of the original My Little Pony. Like I said, it's good for what it is, but I'm starting to feel like the only reason it has gained so much popularity is because of the visuals and the fact that Lauren Faust is behind it (Who has been responsible for FAR better shows, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends being my personal favourite). Take that away and focus on the narrative aspect of it and it becomes... alright. It has funny bits, but nothing special, and It does have some likeable characters.
It just feels like a bit of a novelty when it goes beyond the target audience. To be honest, I'm much happier buying some of the pretty merchandise, admitting that it's a novelty and make up some My Little Pony stories in my head rather then watch the show itself.
Maybe I just haven't watched enough of it, but I actually got bored and couldn't be bothered to watch anymore. Cartoons should not make you bored.

Well, we've had 24 threads. Fully 50% of that content, at least, has been on topic. We've covered politics, metabolism, historical analogues, Equestrian history and myth cycles, economics - ponyconomics was the big thing in the day! - and more. It's a very rich world, and I always find myself more appreciative after a while. Some episodes were blah, but they grew on me as thy had time to sink in.

Plus, it's totally cool if you don't like ponies. We just happen to be a thread about folks who love / are ponies. Of course we are gonna say ponies are awesome!

And if you like ponies but not the show? Well, a big draw is the community, rather than the show itself. I know he community is sitting at 51% of the reason I'm here, personally.

Okay, I have a question.

While I'm fully aware that Lauren Faust was the lead on FiM, and worked on Foster's Home and PPG, why does everyone credit her as being the leads on those shows as well? I'm pretty sure that at the least her husband Craig was the mind behind PPG I honestly had never really heard of her before FiM and had just followed Craig McCracken's shows. Now, since they're married and have worked on all the same projects that's great, but correct me if I'm wrong, I feel like somehow Craig's efforts have been forgotten in all the ponysanity...

Near as I can tell, it's because a goodly portion of the stuff that is the initial draw - the art style - is directly attributable to Lauren. It can be seen in PPG, Fosters, and MLP. McCracken had his own genius, but I'm not gonna celebrate his work on stuff he didn't do

It is Interesting to note that Lauren herself is almost unable to be responsible for FiM though. The same story-boarders, animators, etc. Are still there while she isn't. She was more the party face, which is why she gets the glory.

A few weeks ago I was toying with the idea of writing up a D&D style pantheon with the ponies. Celestia & Luna as the co-heads, the main six as intermediate powers with portfolios fitting to their personalities and elements, and a bunch of the background ponies as lesser powers with one or two area of influence.

I use to love the old second edition Faiths & Avatars book with it's detailed writeup of each god, their followers, tenets of the faith, holy days and so on. A full writeup like that for a pony based pantheon would be a lot of work, but would be very cool.

I would use it if you make it

Topaz swivels her ears, paying careful attention as she examines the diagram Starry is working on. No, no, brainstorming is good! It's interesting to learn about your magic; I'm seriously impressed with how you work everything out to achieve your full potential. I don't do enough of that.

She ponders for a minute, still looking at the diagram. You know, I think maybe part of the problem is that what I make has some other differences that what your sword does besides being semi-independent.

She indicates some of Starry's notes. My shapes have a volume, but they don't really act like physical objects or kinetic analogs to them. I mean, they don't behave like anything with mass or even *consistent inertia; they kind of either move or they don't. When I fly, I don't get the sense that I'm pushing against anything, or at least not anything very specific. I think there must be some more fundamental difference in how the magic gets translated into the final effect than I assumed.

Well, for flying, I meant... Hm. Starry furrows her brow, and chews at her lip for a moment.
I can pick something up, and move it relative to me. And I could theoretically pick something up that's so heavy that I end up moving instead Rassunfrassun Twilight Sparkle grumble rumble complain, but I can't pick myself up; it's like... She stumbles, searching for the right words. It would be like trying to pull myself out of bed by grabbing my own mane. Which means you do create independent effects- creatures, almost. That's really neat!

He thinks for a bit. "Maybe I could tell you about my home world, about the Sol Society or Exaltations?"

"Oh, you've spoken to her. Well, then! She's my Mom! She raised me! I-I know her more than nearly anypony, I know she'd never do anything like that again, and I-I know she doesn't need some sort of sword constantly at her neck! She needs ponies who love her! Like me, like Momma Trixie and Twilight!"*

Her eyes flash a brilliant green for a moment, and she clenches them shut, taking a deep breath.

"I'm sorry, you're teaching me something, and I'm yelling at you. It's...a sore spot, what ponies think of my Momma, you have to understand." She smiles sheepishly.

Eh, Picard was okay, but he wasn't hilariously awesome like Kirk. (He was a diplomat, and I'm very much a "phaser-and-a-smirk" kind of guy...) I did say, least favourite (though to be fair, it's a toos-up with Sisko), not "dislike".

Also, given that, in particular, we all (and my sisters in particular) watched Next Gen to death when we had the vidoes (they watched the funny episodes so often to the point I don't find them funny anymore, and I even tend to forget that Next Gen even had any funny episodes...) my opinion of Next Gen as a whole has faded a bit over the years.

(That and the fact that Stargate blew it out of the water, in my opinion. Though after the recent watching, B5 has climbed back onto it's pedastal.)

A rough approximation is all... that'll be the limiting size factor, you see, due to the fact that 3D models have a minimum wall thickness that will print (well, potentially, there are ways around that, e.g. filling in the space between the belly and the floor, for example).

At actual 144th scaler, they'd be about 6mm tall (roughly) and about 12mm at 72nd (which is 25-28mm scale, i.e. roughly the size of RPG figures or very nominally Games Workshop stuff). (Fun fact: that used to be 25mm, but everyone kept inflating the size of the models so much it eventually became more like 28mm or even 30mm. Real 25mm are quite a bit smaller...)

Firefly has a total of 675 minutes in 14 episodes, plus one 119 minute movie for a total of 794 minutes of footage.

MLP currently has 27 episodes of 22 minutes each, for a total of 594 minutes of footage. Once season 2 is finished we'll have a total of 1144 minutes of footage and will officially be bigger than Firefly by all metrics.

We already fully established a fandom with half a season. (Just look at all the fics/videos and parodies being produced at the S1E20 mark, when I first discovered EqD.)
