My opinion of this episode is similar to my opinion of the first episode of this season: The main plot isn't that great, but the characters and jokes make up for it. Some particular thoughts below:
*It still felt a little rushed, but nowhere near the level of the first part.
*Gamerlord to Luna, where are you?
*George Lucas called, he wants his ending back. And he wants his Force Choke back as well
*Who else wants to see an episode where Spike needs to recruit a temporary group of Elements after the girls get captured now?
*I wonder what sort of villains we will be seeing next, if we do see anymore...
*Now that I have seen both episodes, I feel Discord is more like Sheogorath then Q. Anyone else?

Lucas can't have 'em back anymore we like ponies better.

Also an Elder Scrolls character? Any parallels there would be coincidence, possibly the same take on the prototype. Besides Discord and Q have an important difference, the latter while still an epic troll ultimately plays fair.

I don't think I feel too different about the new episode than everypony else. It was hilarious, but felt rushed. I'm also disappointed that it looks like Discord is gone for good. He would have made a cool character. I really liked the episode, though. Rewatching this is definitely going to help stave off withdrawal until that ponyless gap is over.

The ending of the pilot is similar to the ending of The Return of the Jedi, and the ending of this episode is nearly identical to the ending of A New Hope. That's pretty cool.

So here's my thoughts on the S2E1 and S2E2.

The reason I watch Friendship is Magic is because it's funny. Yes, sometimes there are really awesome episodes that makes you go woah, but they are 1) icing on the cake, 2) most often not (solely) I'll-kick-your-butt-with-great-power moments and 3) often times more noticeable because they replace the otherwise mostly light-hearted humour of the show in a positive way.

That's why, to me, the multi-episode adventure thing never really worked. The tone becomes different, we use different assumptions and comparisons and FiM will fail to live up to that because it's not what it's good at. Okay, I agree, S1E1-2 were good, but that's because 1) we were getting introduced to the characters in the meantime, which are a strong point of the series, and 2) they were the first ones, so they didn't compete with anything, and nostalgia makes everything look better. That said, they were probably also simply better written, but you get my point.

I quite enjoyed S2E1-2 as would I a standard FiM episode; the entertainment came from watching the mane six mess around with each other. The twisted character takes were hilarious, particularly Flutterbitch and Spikebow Dash. All the chaos in the episode was also great. The part I got most excited over was the balloon chase after Rainbow Dash, way more than the final battle with Discord.

Any Star Wars reference went completely over my head.

Bottom line: Friendship is Magic will never be Gurren Lagann, and shouldn't try to be. The same way a whole episode of Kamina and Simon mucking about would be horrible, so does ponies saving the world leave something to be desired. There needs to be a more personal spin to it.

So what I had to do this morning fell through, so I actually had time to watch a livestream. Unfortunately, the livestream I got onto was terrible, so I'm going to have to watch it on youtube or something when it comes to get the full effect. Ergo, these are only preliminary thoughts.

The first fifteen minutes or so were some of the funniest in the series so far. The VOs were clearly relishing their "opposite" roles, and the visual gags were great. Spike being forced into being Rainbow Dash was hysterical.

I...actually didn't have a problem with Twilight saving her friends, or Discord's end. With Twilight, it still got across what saved her, that she (rather forcibly) reminded them about their friendship and what they meant to each other. And you know what? Twilight uses magic so rarely to solve big problems that it was kind of nice to see her solve a problem using magic!

As for Discord...honestly, it makes total sense to me why he was sitting there and not doing anything, not realizing he was doomed until it was too late. He's bored. Here's a bunch of ponies who are trying the same trick, again, on him. How dull! How disappointing! Why couldn't they do something new? This is hardly a good game at all.

Discord isn't a master planning villain, he's chaos personified.

It's only when the rainbow o'doom starts coming when he notices the differences between this time and last time, and at that point, it was far too late.

So, yeah, I thought it was fitting.

Star Wars ending was cheesy, but then, it is a show for children. Plus, it's nice to know that they actually do get recognized for their antics.

I predict so many bronies being upset Luna was not there.

All in all, I really liked this episode. A lot.

I gotta say I really liked this 2 parter, and would put it on par with Ep1. The pacing was abit more rushed than Ep1, but I can live with that. What sold me on this one was just the sheer amount of FUNNY!

Thinking back at it now (having had some sleep after watching it last night) I don't see the plot as being too far below some of the normal one-ep plots in terms of complexity. With the added benefit that the whole mind-messing bit in part one is alot darker than I would have expected from MLP. I just think we might be setting the bar a bit high in terms of what we're expecting. Maybe, that's just me

Also don't mind that they only showed AJ for the memory recovering bits, would get a bit repetitive if they did everyone's.

And let the Twimac shipping commence! (or more correctly; redouble with the intensity and subtlety of a thousand dancing buffalo)

And yes, sad to see Discord go, but I was always a bit skeptical they could afford to sign on John De Lancie as anything more than a guest character
