    Default [4e] Random Banter Buddies DnD Campaign Part 2!

    Greetings! The birth of Part 2 of this amazing little game of mine. The previous thread, assuming those don't get deleted, is at the following link.

    When we last left off, you had finally defeated a room of despicable Fell Courter, their Drakes, and more importantly some zombies, black collars round their neck. Other features of the area are two stables that, even before the battle, smelt of blood, and two pathways. One to the left, having no door, while the other to the right being blocked by a door. What shall our heroes do!

    Teodor is going to request, if anything, a short rest. And he's going to remind the party that Juniper's music gives them a bonus to their healing surge equal to his Charisma modifier, which is a +4 by the way, while they have a short rest, which is pretty sweet.

    I thought it was established by this point that we always do a short rest after an encounter unless interrupted...

    Short rest it is, and a milestone too. Elden spends 2 healing surges to bring himself up to maximum (he's rather squishy, after all).

    Elden removes the collars and studies them:

    Arcana check: (1d20+9)[23]

    Religion check: (1d20+9)[12]

    He also searches the room for anything of importance:

    Perception check: (1d20+6)[23]

    Then I vote that we head down the doorless passage.

    Bast grins. Oh hush. If you do have to sing about me, at least make it account everything I did instead of undercutting it for the sake of rhyming. I healed Carric and killed much more than a single beast.

    You can tell that the collars are some sort of magical control collar. The power that radiates from it is quite similiar to the power related to the Lich. You also figure that if you next encountered beings with these collars, you might be able to imbue the right type of divine power into your words to command the zombies. Doing that would be a Religion or Arcana check. Arcana would be slightly harder.

    As for searching around the room, you don't find much. You do find the remains of scraps of some wolves, rats, and, though not sure, elf meat, obviously fed to the Drakes and Zombies.

    As for what Bast said, Teodor agrees! He's laying down where you knocked him out, and you figure you'd be able to wake him up whenever you want (though doing that without preparing him would be a bad idea).

    I will also note that Elden did also find some rope in his searching, commonly used to corral the drakes, so you've got rope to spare in tying the fellow up, which you promptly do. He groggly awakens.

    The flame on Elden's staff flares up and brightens for a few seconds, although Elden himself doesn't seem to react to on the words, and goes on with what he's doing.

    I actually have in mind that Elden has the ability to manipulate the flame on his staff in minor ways, mostly just by changing its color, shape or brightness by small amounts, but also by moving it (so he always can bring it with him, irregardless of what staff he's using). I should write a bit more on his backstory when I find enough time (and edit it a bit too)...

    Hey, what about letting you do all the combat from now on? That way we won't have to run the risk of dying ourselves.

    Great. Looks like my best tool against our foes will be to control the undead myself. I can't say that I like the idea.

    There's not a chance that Elden can figure out a way to channel harmful energy through the collars instead, is there?

    Also, you're not the type that likes to hide all sort of stuff in your rooms, are you? Unless you're the type that likes to assign riddiculously high DCs to your hidden stuff.

    That's actually a pretty cool idea Teddy, and an appropriate one at that.

    You also figure you could channel an attack through the collars. Maybe not enough to instantly destroy them, but it would certainly help. Wisdom vs their Fortitude, I believe would work well.

    And naw, I do hide things in my rooms, just only in rooms where they would be appropriate. No worries Teddy, your amazing perception checks will help eventually

    The main issue is that Bast can have up to 21 passive perception, so that's what she ALWAYS is seeing. There have been a few points she has seen something other people have had to roll for.

    Hmmm.. I was thinking you were going for an "overload the collar and blow their heads off" type of power, so it would be a specific attack power you could use within 10 squares of the collars".

    I'd like to, but I'd have to find out which door to use, wouldn't I? I'm not much in the mood for another large fight like this one. You aren't aware of this because I knocked you out so quickly, but some friends of mine nearly died in that fight. I'd rather not risk that again.     I distinctly remember myself forcing our foes into disadvantageous positions for you and everyone else to exploit not just once, but several times. I've got enough of a tactical mind to not stand in the middle of a fight I'm not fighting. We'd be in the other room, of couse. Silly.

I'm not quite sure about what you're thinking, but if you're thinking about it as a free power provided by the collars (as opposed to an already posessed power, like Rebuke Undead, merely channelled through it), you could make it waste the collar he focuses the power through too. Limited resources and all that (although it seems like we've got a good supply on our hands).

    The collars would certainly be good. That plus having our own Fell Court puppet could be quite useful...

    I was honestly thinking of a free power, standard action, where you focus your power on the collar while it is on a zombies neck, causing it to explode into chunks of obsidian, causing quite a bit of damage to the zombies and with an increased chance of critting (say 19 or 20, not just 20). I did not think you were trying to use the collars as throwing weapons, essentialy XP
