I wish, I was at Ad Astra. A smaller Canadian convention with emphasis on writers because they are cheaper than TV and movie people. That said the strong writer base makes winning 4th in the short story contest slightly impressive.

I'll introduce Harry and Salem next update.

The American release isn't until May 4th.

But, considering that Marvel movies have been consistently good, all the good actors from them feature, and 'ol Joss is helming it...I'm optimisitic.

Ooh! I should also mention something that's been on my mind for quite a bit: watch the skies on May 7th.

Say, I've been working on a sort of 'glimpse into a potential future' fic excerpt, one that takes place during the projected Fae War segment of our future plotlines.

For reference, so it fits with out 'metacanon', what is the current roster of the Knights of the Dark Tower, and could I get the link for the fanfiction compilation?

    Current roster?

    • Hellboy
    • John Taylor
    • Carlos Ramirez
    • Solomon Kane
    • Michael Carpenter
    • Eddie Riggs
    • Kamina Rider
    • Richard Seaton
    • Sometimes Axel Asher

I have some stuff about the Fae War written down. Why it began and so forth.

    Spoilers, though.

Suffice to say, though, that John "Never Trust an Elf" Taylor's leading the charge against Summer, Winter and everything in between.

Sweet. Want to compare notes, so we can keep the whole thing relatively consistent, or want to assume we're all seeing but not entirely comprehending, and leave it to each interpreter to determine what's true and what's not.
Or what's left of the courts (i.e, not much). For the most part, they only existed to keep the various disparate elements from perpetual war, since they're all immortal and they tend to be slaves to their passions. Of course, the problem was that without any outlets to channel their creative energies, and no further social advancement possible, they became, in a word, decadent and hedonistic.
So elves like Nuada, who were created to fight and are fairly straight forward in their desires, claim that their people are dying and losing their nobility (which they are) because the humans knocked them into land of Faerie, while in fact their people are that way simply because it's more or less the only thing they have to do. I mean, they don't need to work, they are automatically able to do anything they turn their hands to, and so they don't have any outlets to channel into.
And elves like Talos Lankin hate humans simply because they don't have anyone else to despise. In Talos' case, because he had to watch Harry Dresden hold the love of his life down while she bled to death (and she was trying to help humans!), while he was a foot out of reach and couldn't move, or do anything to save her.
And most of the others are riding on Nuada's coat-tails because they were once kings and Gods, and had their own lands in the old days which they drew their magic from. And since then they've been reduced to nothing but curiosities, since the Queens have all the power. So they figure if they join the reclamation, they'll get their lands back, if only for a while.
And most of the other fey used to be their subjects, and are still ultimately loyal to them. They only followed the queens because their masters did, and their masters only followed the Queens because they had no choice, as none of them had the power (individually) to defy them.
And then Oberon and Kris Kringle vanished, presumed dead, and the Great God Pan is murdered. So suddenly nobody sets the limits on summer or winter, and Nodens is too overwhelmed by grief and rage to intervene, so the whole delicate structure comes crashing down. But given Nodens hunts Nyarlathotep for fun in the original subject matter (Dream Quest of unknown Kadath), someone is going to pay.

Also, you missed Carlos Ramirez in your roster of the Knights of the Dark Tower.

I know how the war starts.

I know what happens after the war ends, and the state of the world when the world ends.

I don't know what happens in the middle.

    Hmmm.

This is all lots of interesting details.

I wound up looking up some information about Nodens, the deity from "Dream Quest of Kadeth", the mythological celtic god Nuada, and the classic primal god 'Pan' which has been brought up in Cracklord's explanation.

And the funny thing is, they're all mythologically linked. The original Celtic Deity of hunting/the sea, Nodens, is etymologically linked to Nuada, the mythological war chief of the Tuatha De Danann, and H.P. Lovecraft based his depiction of Noden on a book by Arthur Machen, who equated the Celtic Deity with the 'Great God Pan'.

Theoretically, all these deities could be the same, but considering how we've portrayed them in our own canon...what if we postulated them as all being brothers? It would explain why Nodens and Nuada would be so keen on making someone pay...

    %%%

But enough of that, there's one other question I want to ask:

Hellboy. According to our canon, he's still hunting monsters and being a noble hero, while also running the multiversal Ka-Tet Corporation, the benevolent business that embodies the spirit of Arthur Eld, Gilead and the long-lost Gunslingers.

But what does that entail? What specific resources can he bring to the table, especially in the midst of war? What ethoses would be put forth?

Actually, I think I can answer a few of my own questions:

I wound up playing a chapter of a probably not to be continued 'hidden object' game that takes place in the Dark Tower Mythos called 'Discordia'. In it, you play a member of the Tet Corporation assigned to do a mop-up operation on the Dixie Pig Restaurant after book 7, and foil any schemes of the Somba Corporation, North Central Positronics, and other pawns of the Red.

Through this brief game, I actually learned a few things about the operating procedure and ethos of the Tet Corporation.

They fight the 'bad guys' quite often on a sociopolitical front: countering evil-backed organizations that attempt to corrupt and manipulate societies, and sponsoring initiatives that steer society in a better direction. They gather up magical artifacts to keep them from being misused, hunt supernatural creatures, and watch over the twisting pathways that lead from one universe to the other.

Combat-wise, they don't focus on large scale annihilating weapons and crazy awesome magicks: they apparently teach their operatives to utilize latent (if often weak) psychic talents, but nothing of the 'neck-snapping' variety.

Instead, their fighting power is more artisan, weapons, items, and combat training of precision and grace (pistols, revolvers, rifles, hand to hand, etc). And above all they teach the arts of the gunslinger, the art of killing with one's heart, and remembering the face of one's father.

With Hellboy in charge, I don't see this changing much, save for a greater emphasis on the techniques the BRPD utilizes.

And in consideration of the above, the various roles of the members of the Order and their organizations are:

John Taylor–The Authorities: Supernatural Countermeasures, Magic.

Solomon Kane–Knights of the Word: Troubleshooting, wandering errant heroes, Walking in the Dark Places.

Michael Carpenter–The London Knights: Last Battles, Riding Forth, Stopping Apocalypses.

Kamina Rider (Wait, isn't that Kamen Rider?)–Sentai Alliance: Evil Overlord Basher: Giant Robot/Kaiju countermeasures, Multiverse Access.

Richard Seaton–The Green System: Super-Science Countermeasure: Technological Progress, Evil Empire Busting, Planet Exploding.

    Eddie Riggs–Ironheade: Rocking. Out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hellboy–Tet Corporation: Building Better Worlds, The Ways of the Gunslinger.

From this perspective, the Tet Corporation's role is the most subtle...but at the same time, the most important among the Order of the Tower.

...But this is my personal interpretation? Does this conflict with current game canon?

Looks mostly right; I'd replace The Authorities with The Nightside (for clarification, given that we have The Authority in our canon here). And some slight tweaks:

John Taylor - The Nightside: Supernatural Countermeasures. Found Objects. Problem Solving.

Carlos Ramirez - The Merlin: Occult Lore and Magical Support.

Solomon Kane - The Knights of the Word: Shatterpoints. Errantry. Walking in Dark Places.

Tsukasa Kadoya/Kamen Rider Decade: Morphing Grid champion, Kaijin/Kaiju countermeasures, Multiverse Access

Eddie Riggs: The Roadie, Behind the scenes heroic support, Arming the masses, Apocalyptic scavenger, Rocking out!

While we're on the subject of the Fae war metaplot I want a ruling on Equestria. Is it an isolated part of the Faerie with the Princesses being minor Wild Faye Lords or a regular world of the Dark Tower?

I was kind of thinking that the way they have to manually change the seasons and the time of night/day would make the most sense if they were in a domain of the Nevernever but the Elements of Harmony keep most of Winter and Summer out (the barriers are broken down by Thanos's experimenting).

Also I was hoping to get to use a dark reprise of Winter Wrap Up with three of the mane six called to each side.

Of course having pastel ponies on the bloody battlefields might ruin the mood and it'd be better to have them uninvolved in this plot altogether.

That's my two cents, I'll leave it up to everyone else.

I have no clue what Equestria is, but figure it works better as a peripheral sort of thing, rather then a major player.

Also Colesign? Perfect assessment of the relative strengths of the various knights and their major roles. Couldn't have put it better myself. The major difference in this is that the Tet corporation extends over multiple worlds, so the majority of it's trade come from inter-planar monopoly. That, and a bit less emphasis on the way of the Gunslinger, what with the fact that they don't actually have any.

As for the fai thing, look at that, somebody else is interested. I certainly never expected that. I'm basing it mostly on my half completed notes for the roleplay. I could send you them if you want to try and make sense of it.

You warm the cockles of my heart, Cracklord.

If you want to send me some notes, feel free to. In the meantime, I think I'll edit my piece and then post it at a later date.

It's a 'flash' into the future, depicting a specific part of a specific battle of during the Fae War: the scene is shamelessly centered on Richard Seaton. I'd venture (and hope) that later 'flash-forwards' would focus on the other members of the Order doing their own things to win the war and kick the asses of the Fae back out of Midworld.

I also drew certain elements from a similar 'flash-forward' war scene in another piece of fiction. See if you can guess which.

Now, now, Cracklord: from the perspective of a scientist like Seaton–no, from the perspective of a Super-Scientist like Seaton, Magic and the powers of the Fae are merely a phenomenon that hasn't been explained yet!

But yeah: Seaton is totally going to be pissed off at the fae. Be warned, Purple Prose and Ham awaits:

And then that night was riven...WITH FIRE!

Explosions stitched their way across the landscape below, in the hills and deep valleys and peaks and tall forests, and in the tumbling air above, as swarms of flying creatures blotted out the sky and their lords and ladies cast down their fire and ice in equal measure. In the distance the spear of Lugh was hurled, devastation following in the wake of it's arc. Great Giants and Ogres, exposed to the stinging smoke of the Brew of Balor, opened their blazing, swollen eyes with bars of bronze and scorched the landscape with beam of pure elemental fire and destruction!

Golden machine-men of clockwork and gears advanced, swinging swords and shields, and were mashed to pieces, shattered, melted...and then they slowly reassembled themselves. Arrows crossed the sky in droves like gnats bleeding a greater foe to death, and eldritch sorceries turned whole swathes of the land and air to howling blizzards, roaring tornadoes, overgrown choking vine jungles and jagged crevices where the earth itself had been riven from terrible quakes.

And in retaliation the opposing force desperately fought back with all the weapons and training developed by the Tet Corporation and all the marvelous technology developed by the Science of the Green System! Seeker Missiles, Conversion Warheadss, X-plosive bullets, aerial drones, point defenses, and the 'Fae-Killer' warhead that was the famed Allotropic Iron Torpedo were all hurled with equal disdain at the immortal foes that swarmed forth over the land, shredding mystic flesh with the cold metal that shaped mortal ingenuity since the dawn of civilization!

And from mounted projectors and tripod-deployed semi-portables, a multi-colored assortment of ravening beams, tubes, rays, needles, and daggers of energy shot forth at luminal speeds, stitching their ways across the countryside and through the air, leaving charred, utterly disintegrated ruin in it's wake. Great airships, powered dirgibles, and swooping spheres made of transparent, utterly durable arenak and powered by the sum energy latent within disintegrating bars of copper took to the skies to hold the enemy back, their weapons weaving a symphony of annihilation through the very ether of the Nevernever itself...

But the immortal denizens of this accursed dimension were not to be so easily outdone! And as the moon loomed overhead, it's Selenite denizens brought the full might of bright Luna to bear upon the aerial champions of the Order, and as it's beauteous moonbeams wafted downward, many brave ships, atmospheric and space alike fell burning out of the sky. And on the ground men fought: armored and unarmored, with weapons of fierce vibratory destruction, and of proven, reliable bullets and blades.

Fought, killed, and died in equal measure.

And floating above, in the very Nexus of the of the defensive effort of the Last Order, in a gleaming spire of transparent purple monopolium and prog-matter that tapped into both the latent power of the atom and the unique background energy of celestial radiation that pervaded the Nevernever, in this grand flagship's central control station, men, women, and non-gendered sentients worked frantically at their stations, commanding, coordinating, and attempting to direct an impossible defense in a war too complex to be even fully comprehended!!!

“Cold Plasma Barrier disrupted! Inner shielding radiating into the ultraviolet range!”

“Breach in the Wall shield! Monopolium layer compromised!”

“First Battalion! Hold your position at all costs! Allocating Projectors Alpha-1 through 50 for supporting fire!

“Sir! 75th Kondalian Warband report breach in their line! Their physiologies can't take the blizzard cold! Reasonable Men moving in to contain breakthrough!”

“Flying Circus “Valiant” is being decimated! Some sort of drill based weapon! Sweat Lord, it's a flying drill weapon!”

“Delta One, Repeat! Confirm Report of Nightgaunt swarms! Delta One? Delta One, come in!”

At the main command station, a sweating man in a unbuttoned Tet military jacket, and a holstered Colt .45, slammed his fist against a brass panel, one fortunately unadorned with sensitive buttons!

“Damnit! Damnit! The Pointy-Eared bastards aren't stopping for ****! How are we supposed to fight against them like this? How?”

“How? How? By fighting until they die, of course!” A deep baritone voice boomed out, as a green-skinned, black-haired, well-framed biped dressed in loose leggings and large amounts of jewelry, arm bracelets, bands, and chains replied.

He strode forward with solid, thumping steps, punctuated by the loud metal clinking of his adornments.

“Don't you know that this is war? By the First Cause, I can barely stand you humans! So lily-livered and easily frightened! You remind me of a bowl of mush–you wade around in slush clear to your ears! Faugh, it's their lives or ours! This will end only with the complete and utter extermination of these 'Fair Folk', or we ourselves will fall! So grit your teeth, you sentimental fool!”

“Dunark!” cried out a voice belonging to a a hooded, cloaked figure, entering the main command deck with the clicking of boots and the jangling of a belt filled with loose tools, hands clasped behind his back. “Don't go knocking sentimental fools! Some of my best friends are sentimental fools! What's the situation!”

“The enemy keeps coming, Overlord!” Dunark replied, teeth bared in a fierce animalistic grin. “Death doesn't frighten them: Heh, I could almost admire them for it!”

He faced flushed dark, and his nostrils flared.

“But their damned Winter Nobles are making mincemeat of my Kondalian Commandos! By the First Cause, If I'd known they were so genetically inferior I would have sterilized them long ago!”

“Ah, **** you, Space Nazi, and may it do ya fine!” The Tet Commander interjected, glaring at the Green System Overlord, and thumbed the army-wide comm channel!

“To all Knights! Hold the line with all your strength! Keep hope and show your courage, and we will keep the Fae from breaking through to the borders of Leng! Remember the Face of Your Fathers!”

A feral grin broke out on Richard Seaton's own face, and he threw back the hood of his cloak to reveal his flight jacket and Hawaiian shirt. “Well said, Colonel! Director Hellboy's taught you well!”

“Thankee Sai. You might say his knack for inspiration runs in the blood, 'Overlord'.” The Tet man replied curtly, tongue deliberately stumbling over the word 'Overlord'.

“Now if you'll excuse me... You there!” He shouted, striding over to a bridge officer. “Get me in touch with the New Wardens! They need to open a Way to the London Knights, stat!”

Dunark sniffed as the Tet man walked off. “So where have you been, ****?” He inquired levely, walking over to a weapons station and depressing a plunger, discharging a wave of vibratory destruction upon a distant hillside

“Oh. Places. With Kane and Ramirez. Behind enemy lines.” Seaton drawled, and held out an empty palm. A flourish, and that palm was suddenly holding a small glass armilary sphere: at it's center there rested a green-tinted copper needle that swiveled back and forth in place.

Dunark's eyes glittered. “You stuck a trace on someone. Who?”

Seaton winked. “Nuada's puppet Fairy Queen.”

Dunark went still. “Ahhhhhh–” He said with delicious anticipation. “Cut off the head, eh?”

“Cut off the sock puppet, more like.” Seaton clarified, juggling the object compass back and forth in his hands. “The sock puppet that happens topossess a huge fraction of Summer's power, and who is infusing her damned fairy footsoldiers with her will, her conceit...”

A ugly snarl crossed his face. “They seek to reclaim their glory, their place in the universe by destroying us? Such arrogance!!!”

He closed his fist over the object compass and clenched.

“I'll resolve them into their constituent particles!!!!”

With an swift nod that resembled a stabbing motion, Dunark turned to the command deck crew and raised his hand.

“Prep engines for acceleration! Energize the 5th Order Projectors, signal Ironheade to begin their concert, and prepare for sortie!”

Doctor Richard Seaton, Chemist, Scientific Genius, Overlord of the Green System, and Knight of the Dark Tower, strode forward towards the tactical visiplates, eyes narrowing as he beheld the view of the chaos of war within the Nevernever. He crossed his arms over his chest.

    Skylark of Gilead! Accelerate!
