Post [PH] The Incipio Campaign - IC

In the Consensio system, the planet Incipio orbits a yellow star. It has seen war more times than any pony can remember, and more than a xenos would care to know.

Long ago, this planet was part of a staging ground for the Luna heresy: great numbers of Space Mareines had clashed, sister against sister, on this forsaken world. After, it had been largely abandoned by the forces of Chaos, and the Imperium kept a vague eye on it. More recently, entire imperial guard regiments used the colony as a staging ground, due to it's well-placed strategic value against the Dau Empire and the Nidpony Hive Fleet Shoryu.

But now the planet itself has come under assault, beset on all sides by the tides of war, the planet has been thrust into conflict once again...

The planet's rulers in the Imperial Guard's 23rd Danopath Regiment were already in conflict with the local feral Hogz. But one fateful day, urgent transmissions reached the planet of a Nidpony swarm descending on their world.

At the same time, a massive Rok holding the Broken Tusk Warboar Bone Crusha crashed into the planet. The Warboar quickly brought the local hogz to heel and launched a campaign to conquer the world from their deeply entrenched home in the Greenrock Mountains, right on the western edge of the continent. The current leader of the guard forces stationed on Incipio, Colonel Bane Firestone, found himself assaulted heavily by the Hogz, from the white sands of the southern Morian coast to his capital city of Moon Dancer, to the far north.

The Nidponies arrived in a great swarm on the forests of the world, their single-minded hunger unstoppable. Fortunately, the Imperial Guard's battlefleets were able to keep the main Hive Fleet from landing long enough for Imperial reinforcements to arrive. But in the meantime, the hive forces that made it to the ground had plenty of forest to snack on, and nice tasty human cities just past the forests.

The Brothers of Combat's commander, Lone Star, set up their main base in the city of Asharis, on an island off the east coast of the continent. He imparted to Colonel Firestone that the island had been chosen in case the cathedral should fall - the entire island would be cleansed in flame, hopefully taking the leader of the enemy with the Brothers.

In a strange coincidence, Farseer Artiodactyla emerged from a webway assembly in the frozen wastes of the south at the same time of the Brother's arrival. Webway gates, long abandoned and dormant, all across the continent flickered to life, and the Eldeer struck like ancient ghosts of myth. They sought the soul stones of many Eldeer that had fallen on this world, which they now saw were possible to recover.

However, their first 'cache', for lack of a better term, they found surrounded by chaos cultists.

Inquisitor Greymane knew the goal of the Eldeer the instant he heard of their forces, and arrived to assist in the coming conflict, as only the inquisition can. However, many in the guard and brothers of combat noted that he seemed intent on finding something hidden on the world.

What they didn't know was that he sought the soulstones of the Eldeer for a very specific purpose - the stones housed Eldeer souls, and were the subject of many years of research. The Inquisitor hoped that, with luck, human souls could undergo similar treatment and be used to pilot Dreadmares and such other devices long after they should have died, and so still serve the God-Princess.

But suddenly, the Brothers of Combat received a set of orders from segmentum command to discreetly investigate corruption in the Imperial Guard forces on Incipio, and until the truth was discovered, not to trust them. And thus, even the Imperial forces became embroiled in conflict with one another.

As the Eldeer approached the cultists, however, a bloodied ranger greeted them, and informed them of one horrifying fact: The cultists there had summoned Chaos Space Mareines of the Night Ladies legion. Now, the world would be under assault from the darkest of foes...

These forces clashed upon the surface of that world... and only one would be left to decide what became of Incipio.

    Here goes nothing...

Far above the planet Incipio, the stars burn coldly, their pale light illuminating the heavens. But look there... A patch of night shifts in front of the stars, their weak lights obscured by an immense, black shape. Nopony (or anyone else, for that matter) can see the full shape as it glides into orbit around the unsuspecting planet... And really, that's the point, for this is a ship of Celestia's Holy Inquisition, her secret guardians of peace and harmony. For ten thousand years, these mysterious mares and stallions have worked in the shadows of the Equestrian Imperium, rooting out Xenos taint, heretical cells of rebels, and the dark and twisted forces of Chaos itself. And now, their watchful eyes turn here.

A smaller shape detaches from the ominous monolith floating in the silent void, and begins its descent towards the planet below. Interference fields mask its passing on sensors, and strong psychic and magical wards imprinted in the very walls of the shuttle protect it from even the powerful scrying magics of the Eldeer Farseers. It descends unnoticed and unremarked towards the outskirts of Asharis, bypassing the city's defenses to land in a slum on the east end.

As the craft settles down, a ramp extends from its underside in a cloud of hissing steam. A lone pony descends the ramp with an odd noise: clop CLANK clop CLANK clop CLANK... The reason for this becomes apparent as he emerges from the bank of steam. He is an unusually tall Unicorn pony with an off-white coat and a dark gray mane, dressed in a long black coat and a witch-hunter's hat over scuffed black carapace armor. The right side of his face is encased in metal, and that eye is a silvery ball with a soulless red dot for a pupil. His right foreleg, too, is augmetic from the shoulder down. Sprouting from his back are two mechanical wings, obviously of a much higher grade of construction than his other augmetics, and adorned with gold circuitry along the top side.

As he pauses at the foot of the ramp to analyze his new environment, a drug-crazed pony slummer jumps from an alleyway at him. The black-clad pony doesn't hesitate; the augmetic eye plants a laser dot on the other pony's forehead as a bolt pistol levitates from the recesses of his coat, also equipped with a laser sight. The instant the two dots line up, *BOOM*. The unfortunate slummer's head explodes in a shower of blood and bone fragments, the most ballistic of which stops an inch shy from ruining the polished sheen of the cyberpony's augmetic hoof. He casts an uninterested glance over the shattered remains of what had, until just a moment before, been a living, breathing pony, then heads off into the twisting alleyways of Asharis.

Behind him, the shuttlecraft shimmers slightly, then simply fades from view, stealth fields moving into place to conceal the small ship. Aside from the corpse, it was almost as if nopony had been there at all.

That took longer to write than I intended it to. Got a bit carried away.

On a stylistic note, is present tense ok? It seemed appropriate at the time. *rimshot* *facehoof* I can do past if everyone is more comfortable with that.

In Asharis, the Inquisitor would find that that that particular drunken slummer was the last.

The Brothers of Combat were famously fanatical in their worship of Celestia, and this extended to their treatment of the fallen dregs of society. Those who would not serve her would burn, and this was made very evident indeed here. Charred corpses - many still burning - littered the streets as the Inquisitor walked. Occasionally, he would spot a Pegasus Brother flying overhead, their dyed hair easy to see as the light of the moon shined. They would nod to him upon noticing the Inquisitorial symbol and fly off, apparently not questioning his presence any more than they questioned the air.

Propaganda littered the streets, proclaiming the holy righteousness of Celestia, the duty of ponykind, all things the Inquisitor would have seen before.

As he continued through the city, he would come across the Brothers of Combat commander, turning his own flamer on a now-dead citizen.

He had done something odd with his weaponry: instead of mounting it on one of his sides, as the average pony would do, he had had his flamer and a melta attached directly to the armor on his legs. As such, the Pegasus had to flap his wings and rise into the air a bit to shoot the flames properly.

The commander suddenly perked an ear, and whirled his other hoof - the one with the melta - around to point straight at the Inquisitor. Upon seeing who it was he lowered his weapon, nodded, and landed. "Lord Inquisitor. Do you require anything of us?"

The Inquisitor smiled, less an expression of happiness and more a grim exercise in manipulating facial muscles. "Only information, Commander. Is there some place we could talk in private, perhaps?"

    The herd had come.

They were in the forests. In the highest mountains. In the deepest sewers. The Paranids-the Devouring Herd.

The forests were almost empty. The parasprite swarms had devoured everything that dared move near them, and then started on the trees themselves. The waves of them were nearing the edge of the forests now, and soon they'd start meeting real, sentient beings.

And when that happened, the real Paranids would come out. They didn't merely devour intelligent beings-they absorbed them. A pony could fight the swarms of the Herd and see his lover in their ranks, spiked and armoured and with everything that made them, them, gone.

The herd had no real leader. The closest thing they had was the vessel.

The Vessel of the Swarm was just a pony, but her flesh writhed with power. With a single thought it shifted and changed, growing limbs, blades, armour, anything she desired. The collective power of the hive mind was imbued in her, and she was the closest thing to being unique that the hive had. Once, the vessel had been an Inquisitor. She had had a name, too. Now she was merely the Vessel.

And for now she slept, in a small pod at the heart of the paranid infestation.

    But soon she would wake.
And all of Incipio would become the Herd.

Farseer Artriodactlya came out of her trance with a sigh. This was going to be hard enough without some inquisitor sticking his hooves where they don't belong. Her loyal Warlock bodyguard/apprentice noticed her irritation and bowed before her.

What news my Lady Farseer? She asked formally her head still bowed.

A mare-keigh inquisitor has arrived and is also pursuing the souls of our fallen. He is well equiptted and a ruthless opponent to face. The Farseer allowed herself to feel only the smallest amount of disgust at the idea of the mare-keigh using the soulstones of her kin.

The nerve of the mare-keigh! A strike force shall set off at once. the Warlock promised.

No. The mare-keigh can wait. Merely send Cervidae and his pathfinders to watch and hinder where possible. We must go to edge of the forest where the holder of a soulstone is in danger of being consumed by the Paranids. A soulstone claimed by the mare-keigh can be recovered but any consumed by the Herd will find their souls lost in the warp.

Your will be done, Lady Farseer. The Warlock rose and disappeared into the camp. Within minutes the forces had on their missions.

    thunk....thunk....thunk..thunkthunk

The noise went on and on in an orderly monotonous fashion. The sound pierced through the eerie silence like a hot white knife through flesh. The sound came from a long, dimly lit hall. The sound began to pick up it's pace, slowly growing louder and louder, until it reached it's frightening pounding apex.

Noxxionus trotted down the corridor, armed in Night Lady terminator armour. The design seemed to be more ornate or for show then for actual combat. Mounted onto it's back were two mechanical batwings, the skin flaps of the wings were standard blood red, and a singe pony skull each was attatched to the end of each wing. Wires and several arcane machinery ran through them, and with there power the wings took a life of there own. Flapping and folding in almost naturally. Noxxionus' front hooves were heavily armored due to them being power fists, forcing Nox to ram into people via flying in order to hit them. Attached to each of the armour's side were heavy boltguns, and upon looking higher up a built in slot was evident although what lied inside of it is unknown.

Finally reaching the end Noxxionus stops at a sliding door and looks up. A black globe with a scanner inside looked down upon him with callous disregard before opening the door up. Nox had finally entered the war room of "Dark Temptation" the battlebarge ship of Nox's Warband. Standing around a 3D representation of the planet Incipio are many of Nox's lieutenants or advisors. Most from the Night Ladies legion but a fair amount from the Princess' Children aswell.

Nox relieved the power fists from the suits hooves before lifting up the hooves and setting them ontop of the table so as to stand up for better leverage. Turning to the second in command Nox says "What do we have so far in terms of terror tactics and ways to infiltrate the planet unnoticed?" and when the Warlord was met with the disatisfying reply of "None" she snorted in rage. Slamming her right hoof down she yells "I GIVE YOU THREE DAYS TO COME UP WITH AT LEAST AN IDEA OF HOW TO SNEAK IN AND OUT AND YET YOU MANAGE TO FAIL AT SUCH A SIMPLE TASK!" scanning the room intently she continues "What the frak happened to the crack team that got our fleet all the way to this planet!?!?......Blegh, if you want something done, do it yourself." And from there she began to come up with ideas for infiltration, trial and error until she found what she needed.

    It's frustrating being on top.

Colonel Bane Firestone was having a bad day. A very bad day. He paced in his makeshift command centre, located in the hotel he requisitioned from its civilian owner. The room hummed with activity, with various radio operators calling out reports and staff dashing about with messages and what-not.

"Sir! Scouts reported the Ponynids are advancing on the village of Three Steps."

The colonel stopped in his tracks and stared down the hapless messenger. "Have Lt. Bluehoof's platoon evacuated the villagers?"

"Most of them, sir. Some are being stubborn."

The colonel shook his head. Stupid civilians. They think they can just hide away in their cellars and hope everything would go away? He turned away from the private. "Radio Lt. Bluehoof to leave them. Move the refugees to the camps outside Moon Dancer."

"Yes, sir!" The private scurried away again, not eager to stay any longer than necessary with the brooding colonel.

The colonel sighed and paced again, stopping briefly at the big map that represented the planet of Incipio. From the moment the regiment had stepped upon the accursed soil of this planet, they were beset with disaster after disaster.

First was the orks from the western mountains. Luckily they were tied down by Planetary Defense Force before they could advance onto any substantial population centre. The 23rd Danopath and a fellow tank regiment from the PDF annihilated the ork advance party and sent them back to their hiding holes. The entire fiasco devolved into a costly stalemate, which neither side breaking through.

Then came the Ponynids. Again, they were saved by the skin of the teeth, with the Imperial Guard battle fleet managing to hold off the main hive fleet, until they landed some more boots on the ground. At least three more Imperial regiments, which Firestone quickly assumed command as senior commander of the planet's defence.

Unfortunately, they could not stop mycetic spores from landing in the forests, and the inevitable signs of their spreading infestation are appearing all over the world. He done what any sane commander would do, with his limited force, try to evacuate the outlying villages, fortifying the remaining towns that was still standing. The colonel intended to make Moon Dancer his last stand, already turning the town in a veritable fortress. At least he count on the planet's PDF being at least halfway competent, with them acquitting themselves quite well first against the orks, and now against the Ponynids. They were containing the situation for the moment, with steady retreats and evacuation going on as smoothly as he dared to hope.

One of his radio operators looked up at the colonel. "Sir? We have reports of an inquisitor arriving."

Firestone was startled out of his thoughts. "What?" he asked in surprise.

    "He landed in Asharis, sir."

"Interesting. Now what would an Inquisitor want in such a backwater world?"

OOC: If anything here is contradictory, please point them out.

As Noxxionus continued planning in the warroom, a door opened up to allow a Mareine scout to enter. She was battered and covered in dirt, the mark of war still lingering, and she barely had time to catch her breathe. She was a Night Lady, for that there was no doubt, but any detail beyond pale skin and black eyes was obscured by the grime. Almost hesitantly she began to speak "....My Lady, I do not mean to intrude but I have urgent news for you. It seems as if the planet Incipio is now harboring an Inquisitor," with that the said everyone froze as all eyes fell on the scout "And that is not all, while we were preoccupied with slowly working our way towards the planet undetected, Paranids landed and are now infesting the landscape." murmers and grumbles spread through out the room at the proclamation. Inquisitors were not to be taken lightly, there mere presence would invariably prove to be a hurdle that the Night Ladies would have to leap. But Paranids? That would require swift and brutal action. If Paranids had there way on the planet then the Night Ladies would have wasted precious time and resources better spent on more raiding.

Slamming her hoof down Noxxionus draws the room back to her "And how exactly do you know about this?" she says and is immediately returned with "Our assassin was killed by the Inquisitor himself. She was disguised as a homeless drifter, in an attempt to gain refuge with the imperial guard and subsequently kill several of there Colonels. So as to spread disorganization and fear," she gulped when she said the next bit "My sisters believe that he read her mind and saw who she was.." But, now barking, Noxxionus cut her off "ENOUGH OF YOUR IDIOCY. LEAVE MY SIGHT!.... And you call yourself a night lady, fearful of s single Inquisitor..." Grumbling now, Nox began to simmer down in order to reclaim clear thoughts, she waited until the scout handed her a chip containing maps involving the new threats, and then shooed the coward away.

Inserting the chip caused the board to change slightly and shine a button. Pushing the button on the table causes the floating 3d globe to fall down and became a board like 3d figure. Representing the landscape on a more zoomed in perspective, with hills and cities jutting out of the ground. On the map are several forests, towns, and figures to represent Paranid and imperial forces. " Now I am fully aware that Paranids are a serious threat to our plans, but that does not mean we cannot use them to our advantage. It's obvious to see that the Imperial Dogs and the Paranids will clash at each other until one drops, so we kill two birds with one stone by letting them duke each other out and then swooping in for the kill. When the Imperial forces charge at the Paranids, we'll be ready. Midway into one of there battles we'll appear behind the Paranids and cut through the Xenos like a knife. Pinned between us and the Guardsmen, the Paranids will surely drop. From there we push in and wipe out the Guard, with the time we bought we'll begin to raid towns that the Paranids haven't infested yet, and once either the PDF or Equestrian Guard rally up there troops to defend we pull back and retreat to our base of operations here on the moon. Wash and repeat for whenever the Paranids clash with the Guard." With a plan in mind the room buzzed with aknowledgement, and some even began to leave in order to get to work. Satisfied at finally organizing her forces Noxxionus turned around to leave and meet with someone she would have to take with her when fighting on the ground; her sister Lyndamere.

The Inquisitor led the Commander into a nearby building and sat down across from him on a bench. With a small sigh, he seemed to shrink a bit. No longer was he the imposing Inquisitor he had been outside; now he simply looked like an aging stallion who'd seen far more than anypony should ever have to. When he spoke, his voice was tired.

"You're probably wondering why an Inquisitor such as myself would come to this backwater excuse for a planet. That's a story, my friend, and not a short one.

"Looking at me, how old would you say I am? Fifty? Sixty?"
His good eye closed as he emitted a short bark of a chuckle. "Hard to tell with all the metal in me, I'd guess. The truth is, I'm quite a bit older than that. I gave up counting awhile ago, but I'm somewhere around three hundred years old. Three hundred years spent in unwavering service to the God-Princess. Three hundred years of research, and three hundred years of destroying the godless Xenos which plague Equestria. He raised his augmetic hoof and brought it down on the table between the two ponies with a heavy clank. "The years have been... Somewhat less than kind.

He paused a moment, staring at a point far off in space, then shook his head slowly. He reached a hoof into the recesses of his coat, and pulled out a small stone. It was red, and glowed with a pulsing internal light. "Do you know what this is, my friend? It's an Eldeer soulstone. Quite an ingenious bit of magic. At its most fundamental, what it does is capture the soul of the Eldeer it is attuned to when they die. Though dead, their soul lives on in this little piece of crystal. Xenos heresy, of course, but with the proper research and sanctions, it could be cleansed and put to use."

"Don't turn your snout up at me, Commander. I am a follower of the Primarch Fluttershy, may she one day return. 'It is not enough to destroy our foes; we must also understand them, or be forever lost.' Her words, Commander. And that is precisely what I seek to do. Imagine what we could do with this if we learned to harness it!
The Inquisitor grew more animated as he went on, gesturing with his hooves. "Dreadnoughts piloted by the souls of the fallen. Titans, even! Pinkie Pie battle tanks run solely by the souls of the dead. Can you even imagine, Commander? Our fallen troopers could continue to serve the God-Princess.

"'Even in death, we serve the God-Princess.' Is that not so, Commander? What I do here is in an effort to make that phrase into a true, physical reality beyond just words. He tapped the soulstone on the table with his good forehoof. "A group of Eldeer has already come to Incipio to claim them, but I am confident that we can and will get them first. We need to gather as many of the caches as possible to give us the broadest possible base for my research. Included in the Eldeer who have come to this world is one Farseer Artriodactyla, an old... acquaintance of mine. This won't be easy, especially with all of the other warring factions present here.

"You best serve the God-Princess where you are right now, Commander, cleansing and fortifying this city. However, if you could assign two of your brothers to accompany me, I would be most grateful. And believe me, the gratitude of an Inquisitor is not a gift to pass up."
After a brief pause, the Inquisitor flicked the soulstone across the table, where it clanked off the power-armored chest of the pegasus. "Keep it, my friend. As a trophy... And as a reminder. I eagerly await your reply."

Here's your reply, Inquisitor: I can spare ONE brother. Me. Lone Star replied as looked at the soulstone. We're already stretched to the limit here, purging heretics and driving back xenos - faith can do much, but as Spike once said, 'A fortress built with faith is three times as strong as it's pragmatism. But with no grounding in reality, it shall quickly burn to the ground.'

Father Bloodhoof may not be able to command devotion as well as I can, but he is competent enough, an expert of siege, and a faithful servant of the Princess. He'll be able to handle this situation.

And... a word of warning. His eyes narrowed. I will not tolerate heresy if I can just as easily cleanse it with fire. You had better be careful how you use these... soulstones of the Eldeer. He whistled, and a psyker entered the room.

Tell Father Bloodhoof he's in command until I return.

If the Psyker had an issue with one of his leaders leaving the compound to fight with an Inquisitor, he did not voice it. He simply nodded, shut his eyes, and then looked back up after a moment. It is done, sir.

Greymane's face hardened, and his lips pulled back into a snarl... But then, just as quickly, that face was gone, replaced by a low chuckle. "Congratulations, Commander. You're the first pony outside my entourage who's defied me in forty years. I think we shall get along splendidly. Very well then, since you insist on coming with me, our first stop should be my shuttle. I have all the important strategic maps and documents there for your perusal... And some ponies who you should meet sooner rather than later if you will be working with me."

The Inquisitor stood with a mechanical whirr and swept from the room, walking back the way he had originally come.

Went the sound of the Skimmer as it trailed over the ground. Grass flattening itself as the skimmer trailed by, almost as if bowing down to the feat of technology that layed ahead of them. Grumbling inside were several Night Ladies and a few Princess' Children. The most prominent of them was a decorated Noise Mareine, Alexandrea, the pelt of a slain beast adorned on her armor, along side several mementos and ornatedesigns on the pink armor. And of course large Doom Siren attatched to her front, the symbol of the Princess' Children engraved on its front.

A few marines wielded Vox's but most others were either looking outside (With and without mechanical assistance to there sight) clutching there weapons or resting. Suddenly all of the present Noise Mareines pricked there ears and were in a frenzy looking left and right. Instinctively Alexandrea's second in command, a Night Lady scout, asked her what it was. In a gurgling sound of foam she said "The bushes! Something is lurking within them, so many of them! They have some armor I think, from the sound of them rubbing against the trees... STOP THE SKIMMER! Ladies, let's go send them a welcoming present" and with that the Skimmer came to a stop, Noise Mareines rushing out in a frenzy at the thought of battle.

Hesitantely the Night Lady Scout's followed in suit, taking aim with there guns and checking out the situation. "This was supposed to be a simple scouting mission, checking out where the enemy was, what they had soldier wise, and where we could set up. But noooo, I had to be the one stuck with the damn Mareines who stop at every crack or scrape they hear in that damn forest with there fancy super hearing. And even if they're right I'm stuck with the scouting party that has to actually fight the paranids..." the second in command thought as she continued rambling on in her mind. Lazily watching the area with her gun as the noises from the brush became more evident and closer.

    "......"

Thats was the sound the FleshRender made as it crused into the planets atmosphere. This singular pinical of Dark Deerish enginering slowly moved into the planets thick canopy, not because of neccesity but out of a want to survay the land. The ship itself could be discribed as knifelike, but that would undermine the shear slickness of the craft. It was a color so deeply black that light was not so much absorbed by the craft, as much as it was a sucked into black rift in the world itself, with light not even a hope in the aura of doom the ship carried with it.

Its carvings that run along its body could drive a mare insane in what they depict, and mearly looking at the craft from a distance could make a sane mind spin due to its vulger defiance of the many basic laws of geometry that ponykind keeps so dear. To the master craftsdeer of Camelorragh, however, these "laws" would rarely even cross there minds, and even then would considered more as suggestions for beginners.

Neverless, as the noiseless ship slowly landed, three other, smaller ships came down, ramshackle and shoddy constructions compared to the main craft. The Archon smiled, knowing that his triumvirate of advisers creations are being geared up for combat, and that his special forces are ready for scouting the area.

Later, he looked out from his personal study within the ship only to see that his personal favorite commander was waiting for him, presumably for a briefing.

As the peryton commander stepped his way into the huge room, he noticed that even now the generals tangled set of sharpened horns scraped the ceiling. "He resembles more like one of those mutated stalkers that the Haemonculi call "Mooseforms", he thought. "I can only think of what combat drugs the Haemonculi created to make him so large while keeping his mind!" he chuckled. He knew the promotion he gave this one was well worth it, considering he had spent no small fortune to give him his inhancements. With his thousand-strong kill streak, he mused, he is well worth the bio-sculpting.

He than finaly turned to see his hulking commander, waiting perplexed at his masters silance. He curtly turned to his pet project and said " Well, Nurquist, has your mind snapped from the drugs already? Come on now, tell me what your perytons have seen!" "Well, master," the massive winged deer got out between his set of serrated ur-wolf teeth," we have found that the forest around us is actualy quit thin, and that there are few other creatures around. We may have to move the ship if we wish to make ground-based raids."The self-titled deer lord mused over his beasts words. " Well then, what are those "few other creatures" you speak of?"

The massive deer could only stutter out "Sir, they seemed to be a derivative of the gemma canis, and they seemed to be building a hive in huge pach of obsidien south of here. We could not identify them at the time, for they stayed mostly underground. There holes show all the signs of a hive being built, however, they where most definatly not the common kind I know of. No diamond dog would dare sully his pallet with a common rock, and a Ur-Wolfs claws are too weak to sutstain any heavy digging such as what we saw."

The Archon thought over this unexpected news. " Rock Wolves? They are supposed to be native only on Nessus! How did a population managed to get themselves here! "he thought. He mearly stated to his deerish monster " Whatever you do, dont try to attack those creatures. Let the natives deal with them. Until we can find a settlement to attack, scout the northern plains. Until you do, we wait".

The bush explodes-not literally, but near enough. Small, many winged creatures fly from it, hundreds, thousands of them, each small, and rather cute, but viciously fanged, and they fly onto the patrol, tearing at armour, flesh, anything they can reach.

All was going great for the Archon for a good time now. The Ibixian slave he had brought with him was far more dedicated to live that he thought. " She was fun while she lasted" he sighed." Her coat is still fine, however." he reminded himself." Perhapes I will make a pair of socks out of it." Noticing that Nurquist was yet again back at his door, he stood up from his griffonpelt rug to unlock the safeguards on the door.

The huge deer yet again had to kneel to pass thru the doorway, and it was only after recovering from shifting his weight and attempting to ignore the oozing mess that jiggled slightly with every motion sprawled out on the floor. After pushing the sight to the back of his mind he turned to his master and said " Master, we have found signs of fighting in the far west. Should we advance?"
"No, you shall not. I will give my men time to prepare for combat. You and your deer, on the other hand, will stay back and guard the ship from assault.

"But my lord, how will you get there? The ship is the only sa-""The fleshwarpers can spare a ship." Master, that is simply madness!" "Why so, commander? Please, explain to me why you do not trust my raiders flying ability. I dearly wish to know what my dearest servant has noticed that I have not considered."

]"I....I mearly think that it is rather risky to carry half the crew in a single vessal. Would it not be wiser for you to stay here and send a Fleshwarper and a few squads of men? For all we know, there are more to the battle taking place than what we thought."

" That is .... a very good observation of the current situation, Nurquist. Perhapes your mind is not as far gone as my charts suggested. Oh well then, alert young Flaymeister to drug up a few choice wracks and gather 20 raiders. Alow him to take nothing more and nothing else, and give him the location of the battle. If he lives.... you will be rewarded with another battlegraph. If not," he pointed to the mewling wreck on the floor," you will end up like that sorry creature over there. Do I have myself clear?

"Ye-ye-yes, sir! I will tell the crew to start up the Reaver right away!"

Lieutenant Bluehoof grunted as the last trucks carrying the last of the refugees rolled by the dusty roads. "Is that all, Corporal?" he asked the maroon pegasus standing beside him.

"Yes, sir. All those that are willing." Corporal Lime responded crisply, his caraspace armour clinking slightly as he shifted his body.

"Good. Follow up with First Squad's Chimera. I want eyes on those forests at all times. I'll be right behind you."

The corporal saluted and galloped off to the waiting IFV. The Lietenant waved at his own Salamander to form up behind the Chimera and moved to join them.

It was a good two hours journey to the nearest refugee camp, with the convoy being strung out for over a kilometre. The lieutenant had spread out his forces, with two of his precious Chimera screening the road ahead, with two more guarding the flanks. He also had a trio of Sentinels patrolling the edges of the forest for any signs of the Paranids, so they should have relatively fair warning. His own Command Salamander and First Squad's are bringing up the rear.

All in all, it was going well.

As the Paranids bursted forth from the bushes the entire squad jerked back. The things poured forward, and soon a single scout dropped from swarming. The skimmer flew back away from the fight and fired upon the swarm with the only weapon it had, a heavy bolter. The scouts and Mareines, having gotten over the shock, began to fire back. Scout's poured forth there weapons a variety of shotguns, bolters, an sniper rifles. The second in command bean lobbing grenades at the swarm while barking orders to fall back towards the skimmer. All of the scouts obeyed, trying to move and shoot away from the Swarm, all but the Noise Mareines. Looking upon them the second in command sighed, they were stamping there hoofs into the ground in some kind of beat.

Then they let out there Blast masters. The sound was...odd. Like a mixture between a masterful orchestra and a terrible bloody slaughter, hauntingly beautiful. They sent note after note towards the Paranids, each Mareine joining the sound after 4 beats. They continued with this until all of them were playing and finally the Commander noise Mareine joined in. Using her Doom Siren she screamed forth one word, sending forth a ripple of deafening volatile sound in all direction. Her one chosen word: BERZERKER!

Running towards the Skimmer scouts begin to drop one by one, 4 in total, via Paranids dashing in the side to try and form a noose around the Chaos Warriors. Continuing on there assault the Noise Mareines refused to fall back, as the scouts boarded the Skimmer. The second in command, seeing that the Noise Mareines are still out in the open, and that the Paranids are starting to surround them, dashes out of the skimmer towards the Mareine Commander. Running through the ripples of sound the scout presses on, ignoring the intense sensual pain running through her body. Shoving the Commander over to shut her up she screams "GET YOUR ASS IN THE SKIMMER NOW! The Paranids may not be ontop of you now but they'll be surrounding you in a noose any minute now!"

Caught of guard by the situation the Commander stutters but quickly reclaims her poise. Looking at her squad she see's two Mareines dragged into the swarm and decides that the scout's words are true. Amplifying her voice to override the buzzing of the swarm she orders her squad to fall back. Running back to the Skimmer the pilot notices them and drives forward to lessen the distance. Every few seconds the Commander turns around and lets out another ripple of berzerker to try ad keep the little buggers at bay. Hopping onto the skimmer they fly up to the sky, stop abruptly, and begin to shoot downward at the swarm with guns and sound alike. Intent on wounding them as much as possible before retreating fully.

The rather discrept ( for a Eldeer.) ship soon closed in to the battle taking place, and Flaymiester is now being interupted from her studies by a worthless worm.

"Uh, melady?" said a nameless raider," I think we are right above the battlefield."

"Ahh, vunderfel! Prepare the pain cannons! Fire at ze nearest target! " The eldeer fleshwarper clicked her tounge, alerting her wracks to become vigilant.

"We shall go down after those paranids are pushed back. With due hope, there natural hivemind will let everything in zat horde feel zee pains. Dont fire at zee ponize just yet, we may just be able to make use of dem."

Thinking a bit more, she added "Oh, and fire at zee biggest one in zee crowd, that usualy has some controls over a swarm."

Why would a ship have a beam useless against metal foes? Its a Raiding ship, not a Fighting ship. The main one is the only one realy protected for enemy ships. Also, I am guessing the Hivemind is somewhat connected on a level that alows them to feel each others emotions. Normaly, this would give them a warm and fuzzy feeling of friendship and harmony and all that jazz, but if I am right this may give them a nasty shock.

Also, I think we need to put up "army lists" up on the main page. I mean, if one has a "small" army, how will one know what to deploy besides " lots and lots of basic fighters?" It would help everyone get a good idea about what everyone has at there disposial.

Yep, same battle. Hope you dont mind me crashing the party.

The beam I just fired should have caused the paranids around the middle part of the swarm to feel nothing but pure pain, and presumiably cause torment to those who could hear there thoughts. We are flying a good deal away from the ground, so we have a good idea where the "center" of the horde is.

The beam could, at least, drown out the all-loving droning of the Hivemind. Perhapes even causing the smaller ones to go into shock, with the larger ones simply stunned by the loss of the connection with the hivemind combined with the waves of pain?

Of course, I have no clue whether or not the Hivemind works like that, but it seemed like a good idea to test out the gun on that ship. For science.

Flying upwards the soldiers of Chaos continue there downpour of weaponry, continually coming upwards into the sky. However, they are thrown off by the sight of a beam piercing through the air. Rapidly swerving around they soar upward, shooting which way and that, barely able to utter berzerker over and over.

Finally stopping the skimmer, Alexandrea looks at the strange eldeer craft. Peering into it she stares down whatever lies within it, intent on knowing what the warp it's doing here and if it shot the beam. Sick of just staring at it she takes a deep breathe in and screams at the top of her lungs, amplifying her voice to send a ripple with the first two words, and then shoot straight at the craft with the last words, ALL ABOARD! AHAHAHAHAHAH! she screamed. She became hysterical when she said it, swaying around dizzily at the stress of putting so much force into it. Leaning against a wall she barked "Shift your fire! Scouts, take down that craft, use snipers to try and kill off the pilots. Noise Mareines, keep those damn bugs at bay. Pilot, get us the frak out of here ASAP! Go go go go!" and with that the new priorities were set. Scouts on the ship, Noise Mareines on the bugs, Pilot flying away as fast as he can, and occasionally swapping roles with the Mareines and the scouts (For heavier impact on the ship).

The beam strikes the parasprites, and they writhe as one.

And though they do not realise it, the eldeer have made a mistake.

Miles away, in the deepest, darkest depths of the forest, the Vessel opens her eyes with a flash of rage-and delight.

"More bodies for the herd!" she says aloud brightly, with an almost hypnotic, saccharine voice. Her eyes are impossible, deep, dark, bright, swirling. Black and white, red and blue and green.

Farseer Artriodactlya saw the target appear in both her mind and on the scanners of her transport. A farming manor the inhabitants had either been too stubborn to evacuate or too slow. They had tried to fight off the approaching Paranids with farming servitors modified to fight and crude hunting rifles. In nearly no time the ponies had been pushed back to the manor itself and they and it would soon be consumed. However there was still some time before the manor was entirely engulfed and Farseer Artriodactlya intended to use that time to claim her prize.

We must be quick now. Jetbike sqaudrons and Swooping Hawk packs harry the Swarm and try and draw them away from the manor. The rest prepare to assault the manor The Farseer briefly ordered her forces telepathically. Her well trained forces responded with the famed grace of the Eldeer. Three squads of jetbikes trained their guns shredding the flank of the swarm before the pack of swooping hawks descended from above to disrupt the swarm with bombs and lasers.

Meanwhile a squad of Warp Spiders appeared in the courtyard of the manor, covered by the heavier weapons of the Falcon and Wave Serpent carrying the rest of the rapid assault strike force in.

The forest is deep and thick, but many of the trees have been stripped bare. In fact, the deeper you go, the worse the forest becomes-and the more full it gets. The outside is full of Parasprites, but as you travel inwards, more complex paranids begin to appear. The termagaunts, assimilated or reconstructed beings with biological weaponry fused into their shoulders. Hormagaunts, who are changed to stand mostly upon their rear legs, their front hooves enhanced with vicious scything blades. Raveners, with long, serpentine tails and four weaponised hooves. And Gargoyles, which are simply the pegasi equivalent of the two species of gaunts.

You dread to think what you may find if you go deeper still. Or rather, you would, if you were sane enough to know fear.

The crew of the ship itself was rather unerved by the sight below, which was in itself a feat for these hardened raiders. Several where skittish at the sight of the Gargoyles, but where satified by the fact they could not fly this high with regular wings. Only one dared to ask Fleshmiester why they where going further in.

" Mistress, I-" "Yes, Phanior, what iz it?" The eldeer warrior was no stranger to mutilation and self-altering, but even he could not stand to look into the too-large eyes of the doe before him, and even with the fleshwarpers angerless voice he knew the mad doe saw him only as a piece of meat to alter and change at her will. He saw what happened to Gresticas, and the fact its been a few minutes since then ment that the wracks had detonated and the parasprites where dead. " He is dead or turned", he thought. He was confident to not end up like him.

"Mistress, why are heading forword? We have found what we needed. We sabatoged the parasprites advance. Why are heading forwo-sklurk...."

As Phaniors head rolled on the floor, the Eldeer fleshwarper could only stare at the crews shocked expressions " What, are you afraid of a little blood?" she sneered, " get back to work! Alert me if we get any interferance from the paranids below. Until then, keep sailing!"

As they get deeper, a Harridan emerges... similar to a Gargoyle, but scaled up to about fifty times the size. It roars, and dozens of Gargoyles cling to its belly as massive, clawed wings bring it up towards you.
