Re: [3.5] Ryclend Deephold
Rd 1
Each of the four intrepid adventurers stepped through their personal portal, returning to the dungeon where they had left the day before. Halad and Ferdinand appear at the same moment, in exactly the same spot they left when their key had been triggered. Apparently Drynch was just slightly behind in his timing as he was not seen right away. They could see that no doors blocked their progress, nor was there an ice wall in their way.
Rukesh also returned to where he had activated his key, which was down the stairs.
The floor, as before, was covered in a thin sheet of ice, making movement tricky*. While the air was frigid it had no effect on them thanks to one of the protective spells Drynch had cast. The entire area remained dimly lit, though no source was ever found for this illumination.

Re: [3.5] Ryclend Deephold
After looking down the steps for anything (see previous post for spot check), Rukesh carefully makes his way up the steps, trying to keep against the wall so the devil wouldn't see him, listening for the arrival of his companions so he could move all the way up.

Halad
Halad carefully moved to the wall next to the entrance of the narrow passage into the next chamber and worked on melting the ice making the entry slippery for the others.
SpoilerHalad has a +12 Reflex save modifier, so I think he's OK himself. He moves to square J7 and uses Prestidigitation to "dry" J6 to rid it of the thin layer of ice there while waiting for Drynch to arrive. Ryn stays put in the square of arrival (K7), and Craban with her (perched on her back).

After seeing Halad move in position next to the wall, Ferdinand moved to the wall next to him.
Waiting for Drynch to arrive, he used one casting of shield to make sure he could be an outstanding decoy, just so Rhukesh could escape. He knew, he could be at least a defensive bulwark, protecting all his allies.“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

Re: [3.5] Ryclend Deephold
Rd 2
The three companions prepared to deal with the ice devil as they waited for the dwarf to arrive.
Drynch arrived and wasted no time implementing their basic plan. He stepped forward cautiously (made his reflex save, from J6 to G6) as he drew his weapon and shield, then cast a pair of spells. The first spell was very quick (Swift: Assay Spell Resistance), allowing the dwarf some advantage against the innate resistance of the devil to spells. The second spell caused the devil to suffer blight (Std: Devil's Blight, 6 dmg, 5 reg), inflicting painful wounds to it.

Re: [3.5] Ryclend Deephold
Rd 2
Ferdinand slowly moved into the room (G4) and looked around for any sign of magic that was binding the devil to this plane. Though it was possible such runes were covered by the ice on the floor, he saw no such indications.
Halad moved into the room (G2) and fired his bow. A pair of well-aimed arrows shot out and struck the devil, sinking in for minor wounds (10+9 dmg).
Drynch arrived and wasted no time implementing their basic plan. He stepped forward cautiously (made his reflex save, from J6 to G6) as he drew his weapon and shield, then cast a pair of spells (Swift: Assay Spell Resistance; Std: Devil's Blight, 6 dmg).
Rukesh moved up to the top of the stairs (B7). From there he could see his shield and sword laying where he had previously dropped them (D7), about 10’ away. The devil was positioned in the same place as when they had left.

Re: [3.5] Ryclend Deephold
Rd 3
Ferdinand cast Shield (swift) and Fist of Stone (std) on himself.
Halad fired his bow twice, both arrows sank deeply into the body of the devil (total 26 dmg).
Drynch stayed where he was and cast another spell, trying to curse the devil with bad luck (std Curse of Ill Fortune), which failed to take effect. His previous spell continued to harm the devil (Devil Blight 6 dmg) as the dwarf fumed about the failed spell.
The Devil cast Unholy Aura (std) and took a step (5’ step) toward the trio as it radiated a Fear Aura (free, 10' radius, Drynch and Ferdinand need to roll a Will save DC 22).
Rukesh managed to make it to where he had previously dropped his sword and shield and retrieved them both.
Spoiler: OOCThe devil is taking a 5' step to the middle of the room. So Rukesh can no longer take a 5' step along the wall and get in a melee attack. But he could move to attack, or move to his sword and shield (D7). I believe to pick them up you have to be in that square. You know it has 10' reach so if you move much it'll get an AoO if it notices you (invisible, roll move silently).

Re: [3.5] Ryclend Deephold
Rd 4
Ferdinand stepped up (5’ to F5?) and lashed out with his sword. Neither attack struck the devil with enough force to do any harm.
Halad stepped around the corner to gain some cover (5’ to H3) and fired his bow twice. This time neither arrow caused any harm to the now well protected devil.
Drynch also stepped forward and cast another spell (5’ to F3, shielded casting), trying to send the devil back to the Nine Hells (Dismissal). Though he overcame the innate spell resistance, the devil resisted the attempt.
The Devil released its Fear Aura (Free, 10' radius, Drynch, Ferdinand and Rukesh need to roll a Will save DC 22), then cast Cone of Cold (std, 29 dmg [deducted resist energy], Refl save DC 20 = 15). Drynch took the full brunt of damage from the Cone of Cold, but one of his spells lessens the damage he suffers (29 dmg). The dwarf fought off the fear and remained in place
Rukesh once again succumbed to the diabolical fear, dropped his sword and shield again, and fled down the stair. After getting out of sight he activated his key and returned to the inn.

Re: [3.5] Ryclend Deephold
Rd 5
Ferdinand struck out with his sword, but again neither attack struck the devil with enough force to do any harm.
Halad fired his bow twice, but again neither arrow caused any harm to the now well protected devil.
Drynch cast another spell (shielded casting, Dismissal), trying to send the devil back to the Nine Hells. The devil howled as the magic took hold, sending it to some other plane. Drynch knows, and tells the pothers, that the devil was not sent back to Hell, meaning it will likely face some serious threats, wherever it was sent.
The air immediately warmed slightly, though it was still cold from the ice that remained. The room was suddenly quiet and nearly empty. They saw the sword and shield of Rukesh on the floor next to the wall near the stairs. Under where the devil stood they also see 4 potions, a quiver with 10 arrows, and a ring.
Drynch called out for Rukesh, and after a moment of silence he shrugged and said, “He must’ve returned to the inn again. I suggest that we collect all these items and join him. We won’t be seeing that devil again any time soon, if ever.”
Spoiler: OOCWow, that spell only had a small chance of working, only on a roll of 1 or 2!

Ferdinand
Ferdinand put away his sword and grabbed the shield and sword that were owned by Rhukesh. Besides that he also took the potions, the ring and the quiver, before he moved out of the room to the room where Halad was in. Than he used his key.
I will see you in the inn. The table we are always at will be the place I will put the items. Rhukesh will be happy his stuff is returned to him, that's for sure at least.
And with those words Ferdinand disappeared. Immediatly after returning to his room, he moved towards the table, ordered a round of drinks and food for everyone that would arrive, knowing what his companions would like and put the loot on the table, including Rhukesh's sword and shield. After that he waited for his allies, sipping the glas of water he had ordered for himself.“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

Re: [3.5] Ryclend Deephold
Once Rukesh calms down, he again admonishes himself for his cowardice. He then heads to the meeting room to await his companions.
Happy to see Ferdinand with his sword and shield, he says "Apparently that went better for you guys than it did me."
Seeing the other items Ferdinand had placed on the table, Rukesh pulls the tiny crystal from his pocket and lays it among the other items, then takes his sword and shield.

Re: [3.5] Ryclend Deephold
Having no desire to face that devil again, Halad gathered Ryn and Craban and headed far enough down the stairs to be out of sight of the top before activating his key.
Joining the others in the meeting room, the elf gave Rukesh a small smile and said, "We were lucky, yes. Drynch was able to banish the thing."
Craban, meanwhile, was completely fascinated by the tiny crystal Rukesh had laid on the table.

Re: [3.5] Ryclend Deephold
Greenhorn Hall, Thifton…
Seeing Halad leave from the same place he presumed Rukesh had left, he joined Ferdinand so that when they returned the man would not be alone. Rejoining the others at the inn in the room they had designated for such meetings, the dwarf brought a small keg of ale with him that he had procured on the way.
As he poured tankards for everyone he said, “So, the devil is gone, and not likely to return. It might be possible that whatever power placed it there will try to replace it, but if we return tomorrow that will be little time to even know it is gone, let alone replace it. If something else is there, that will tell us more about those elsewhere in the dungeon.”
Looking at the items on the table, the dwarf drank deeply of his ale, then said, “So, shall we get one of the elf wizards to identify these things?”
Presuming the answer is yes, Quijol is brought in and identifies the items:
Ring Crystal (+2 dodge bonus AC, Evasion [or improved if wearer already has evasion], Minor Displacement always on, Major Displacement 15 rds/day [free action, need not use them all at one time], can only be used when attached to a magic ring.)
(4) Potions of CSW (CL 10)
(10) +1 Arrows
+2 Ring of Protection
As the elf identified the items, the dwarf cast a few spells to cure his wounds.
The elf sighs slightly, “Shame I wasn’t involved in this adventure, but I understand the reasons. Well, best of luck in the future. Let me know if you need my assistance again.” He left the group to discuss their items and whatever else they desired.
Drynch says, “Well, each of us gets a potion. The arrows seem obvious, since Halad is the only true archer among us. So even though he still owes us from taking that armor crystal for his familiar, I say we let him take the arrows. After all, I suspect we’ll find lots of treasure eventually. The ring and the crystal are left to decide upon between three of us then. Since the crystal must be used with a magic ring, and I don’t have one, I’d like the ring of protection. Then again, my armor and shield grant me good protection already, so maybe Rukesh and Ferdinand should have those two items.”

Re: [3.5] Ryclend Deephold
Ferdinand
My magic and faith protects me as well as any armor and shield ever could. Especially since I delayed my martial capabilities by training more in arcane swordsmanship. Though sadly I am lacking, which was apparant by the demon. My blade could not seem to damage the creature.
Ferdinand looks around the room at his companions.
Considering the ring and the crystal, it seems that it should go towards the least protected of us. The ring combined with the crystal seems to be for now a good match. I do not know the worth of the items, Nor does that matter. I will not need any of those items, at this moment at least. So I would say it's between you and Rhukesh. The one that needs it most should get it.
A little knock on the door makes Ferdinand stand up and open it, seeing that the food is brought in. He makes sure that all his companions have a plate of the food in front of them before he sits down, and puts food on his own plate and starts eating.“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
