Re: My Little Pony XXIX: The Spoilers have been DOUBLED!
I can only speak for myself, but I find there is a lot to like about it (and I certainly didn't expect to like it at first). The animation is good (unlike what little I have seen in screenshots of earlier generations), the stories are good and not at all "childish", the jokes are often genuinely funny. Also, there are no humans. It certainly isn't for everybody, though, but if you can look past traditional "macho" stereotyping you might find it as good as I did. To quote myself, "Why should happiness, friendship, and fun only be for children?"
I quoted myself. I feel dirty.Last edited by Athaniar; 2011-10-24 at 10:36 AM.

Re: My Little Pony XXIX: The Spoilers have been DOUBLED!
Well, for one thing, it's very well written and very well drawn. Did you ever watch the Powerpuff Girls, or Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends? Well, it's the same woman who did those doing Friendship is Magic.
The characters are well-written and compelling, from Twilight's bookishness to Pinkie Pie's 4th-wall-breaking silliness, and despite a certain simplicity which comes with being a children's show, it lacks the condescending nature common to modern children's programming. In addition, plenty of references and jokes are made which benefit older viewers.
If you want an analytical take on it, I'd suggest visiting the tvtropes page for it (no link because I'm CN, not CE). If you truly want to understand, I'd suggest watching the show itself. The people in this thread have more or less agreed that Winter Wrap-up is the best episode to start with, and if you like that, you should watch the series in order. It's all up on youtube, so no worries.
As to whether this is the right thread for the query, yes it is. The MODS have more or less banished all pony-related stuff to this small corner of the playground for fear of facilitating the spread of the infection.
Oh, and if you decide you like it, you should come back here sometime. ^^ Good luck, and I hope that coworker of yours doesn't get ridiculed anymore.

Re: My Little Pony XXIX: The Spoilers have been DOUBLED!
Rarity's Night
SpoilerMidnight shifted as Rarity began to pull away from him, reluctantly pulling away from his Lady for a moment. As he watched Rarity settle herself down on the grass, struggling with the weariness of maturity, he felt a slight pang of regret.
He briefly wished that he had been borne in a different time, a different place. He entertained a fantasy as he settled in the grass next to his Lady, of being there on that first disastrous Gala. He would have swept Rarity away before she had encountered Blueblood, and shown her the perfect night, and then...
But no. It was impossible. For if he had been borne in a different time, a different place, then he would not be Midnight. She would not be the child of three mothers, the niece of five mares by choice, not blood. She would not have grown up in Ponyville, nor had the experiences that had shaped her to be the mare that she was. It was more than that, though. She was proud of who she was, where she came from.
This was the great irony, for the same thing that had allowed Rarity to have her Prince for one night, denied it from being any more than that.
He felt her bury her muzzle up against his neck, their bodies entwining once again. This time, however, she was aware of the weariness that was plucking at her, could feels her breaths growing more and more shallow. He knew that she desired sleep, but was keeping awake not just to see the light of the morning sun, but because she feared discovery when morning came.
But the ending of the dream was important, perhaps the most important thing. If the end of Rarity's dream night was seeing this world of theirs dissolve away, the Dreamblooms withering under the light of the sun, leaving her in the dirty, exposed park...if she realized that it was no longer Prince Midnight who was snuggled against her, but her young niece...if they were forced to walk together away from their night, not knowing what to do or say...
The memory of the dream would be marred. She would forever associate that night with the morning after.
And so, as the light of the sun began to breach the horizon, as the golden rays of his Grandmother's sun began to shine through the trees, and dance on their faces, Prince Midnight tilted his head down, and whispered sweet nothings into his Lady's ear. His horn began to glow, as he weaved a simple spell, the last one that he would cast this night. His horn touched hers, and he sent the spell coursing through her, carrying Rarity off into sleep, so gently that she could not have noticed.
"Sleep well, my Lady..." He whispered, Prince Midnight's last words to Lady Rarity, as their world dissolved around them.
---
A half an hour later, Midnight was at the doors to the Botique. She felt Rarity's weight against her back, as she had carried her peacefully slumbering Aunt all the way from the park to here, with the help of her magic, of course. It was still early in the morning, and the route she had carefully taken had ensured that no one would have seen the young mare, still dressed in that nobleman's outfit, struggling with the sleeping older mare, to keep her lovely dress from being ruined or stepped on.
Midnight let out a soft groan, feeling exhaustion threaten to send her to the ground. This was the last thing that she needed to do. She would place Aunt Rarity in her bed, and she would awake from the dream as was proper. Not on the cold, dewy ground of the Park, the magic that had affected it banished by the light of the Celestia's sun. Then, Midnight herself would collapse in her own bed, and sleep until the next morning came.
She could only hope that it would be enough to dispel the feelings that were still pulsing through her, what the night had left deep in her heart.
She had been successful. Almost nopony knew, and those that did were sworn to silence, through promises and magic. She had done it, she had fulfilled her Lad...her Aunt's dream.
Midnight smiled, as she opened the door to the Botique, not knowing who lay within...
I figure a final denouement with Midnight and Sweetie Belle would be a perfect way to wrap this up.

Ponies not only make ME want to be a better person than I was before they entered my life, they make me want to HELP OTHERS be better people too.
And that is a GOOD thing by any definition.

I was sort of half fishing for a link to those, but it looks like I already had that sitting open in a tab. I may just have too many tabs open...
I'll get started on editing those into the list.
EDIT: Know who made them? I'd like to give credit, if I can.
EDIT2: Wow, it really goes by a lot faster when there are only 14 to add, as opposed to ~170.Last edited by Gadora; 2011-10-24 at 11:17 AM.

GEE-ZUS!
SpoilerFlashpoint seems in genuine wonderment at the sight before him. To the newly steaming stallion he says, "Do you work in construction? You should. This thing looks tougher than some of my country's military bases."
He hits another button on his belt, and flickers for a moment before disappearing with a flash, and comes back into existence on the shoulder of the massive pony. "Sorry about all that charging and talking about dismemberment and such, I hadn't realized you were a friend of the lovely dame. Can we be chill broskis now?"
He turns to Midnight. "You, babe, have a wonderful voice, did I ever mention that? I really do admire a gal who can take command of a situation. But don't you be thinkin' you can order me around," He winks at her. "This pony is downright uncontrollable."I have a band!

Amish, I'm always flattered to be sigged, absolutely
Goose, I will first say that anyone who tries to leave work early for any tv show deserves ridicule, ponies or otherwise.
As for why adults find the show to be worthwhile, it's a genuinely well made well written clever TV show. Once you get past the cognitive dissonance of "this is supposed to be for little girls" you'll find that it's actually got fully realized multidimensional characters, jokes that are funny to adults without being "adult", and an authentic sense of wonder and joy that isn't sickly diabetes inducing overkill.
If you've ever watched and enjoyed a pixar film as an adult, it's the same way those films are excellent even if you're out of the kid demographicLast edited by Eakin; 2011-10-24 at 11:48 AM.

Re: My Little Pony XXIX: The Spoilers have been DOUBLED!
Other's have mentioned some good things about the show itself, but I think it needs to be mentioned that a HUGE part of it has to do with the community that has sprung up around it. I wouldn't be here, obsessing over ponies, if it was only me watching a cartoon. Sure it's a great cartoon, but without the brony community I would, at most, watch the episodes occasionally and not think much more of it. I certainly wouldn't worry about catching new episodes live when they air, for example, I'd just watch them whenever. And I most certainly would not spend virtually all my time reading and writing fan fics or making pony art, or any of that.
The community is great! That's all I wanted to say

Re: My Little Pony XXIX: The Spoilers have been DOUBLED!
Random thought of the day.
I actually preferred the old opening intro to the new, revised one. For one thing, the theme song seemed to have got cluttered by unnecessary instruments in the new rendition. The old just sounds cleaner, more in the spirit of the show I feel.
The train looks a little out of place as well, since in the two episodes we seen so far, it has not been shown yet. However, I'll admit they're probably using it to showcase the minor characters of the show, aka the CMC and possibly some others.

Re: My Little Pony XXIX: The Spoilers have been DOUBLED!
Spoiler*Midnight watches, wide-eyed, as Amish essentially goes crazy with pillow and root beer, creating a pillowfort that simply towers over Ponyville, large enough to even take in that giant marshmellow pony. Even with all her and her Momma's respective knowledge and research, there are still things under Celestia's sun that they don't understand, and this...this is one of them.
"That was...amazing..."
"Oh, Phssst. There's no magical splicing about me. You know how normal ponies are conceived and born? It's the same way with me." She grins slightly. "There were just a few extra steps involved, and a lot more magic."
Exxccceellleentt.
*hugs* Me too, me too. But let's give this one a great denouement first, and wow everypony!
*squeak!*
I have a great partner, and so I'm driven to do it right.
Spoiler*Midnight quirks an eyebrow, looking at Flashpoint as he winks at her. She coughs slightly, and tilts her head.
"Well, is that so? You sound so certain about that, it must be true. I don't know why I'm even trying, truly your will is unbreakable." She lifts her hoof up. Her voice changes, becoming more commanding, a more restrained but potent version of the Royal Canterlot Voice.
"Lick my hoof."

Re: My Little Pony XXIX: The Spoilers have been DOUBLED!
...we have?
As far as I know, there's been no decision-making to that end about ponies... Avatar is Magic is still running in A&C and Bridle Shores is still running in FFRP, right?
You might be referring to the "one topic, one thread' rule, but that's not pony specific. If someone started a "Hey, what episode of TNG should I start with? I heard the first season kinda sucks" thread while there was a general Star Trek discussion thread, they'd probably be merged as well.Visit the Chocolate Hammer IRC channel!

Re: My Little Pony XXIX: The Spoilers have been DOUBLED!
So. Birthday so far. Been basically as ropey as I'd expected, all in all.
The carpet was due at 3 o'clock (and came about twenty to four), meaning that Mum couldn't run me into my appointment, so I had to drive. Everything on telly this morning was a repeat of a repeat of a repeat, and with half the dining room furniture in there, I couldn't even spend the time - as I have in the past, watching telly. (Well, to be fair, Mum would have let me watch some DVDs or something, but then she'd not have had anywhere to sit, and she's very tired again today (she suffers from chronic fatigue/FM), so I'd have felt a bit guilty.) I couldn't settle to anything in my bedroom (didn't very restfully meditate last night, either), with whittling a bit about my appointment, especially knowing I'd have to drive in (and I hate driving). So, when I drove in, I managed to stall on a hill about three times (I hate that clutch) and missed the carpark I was aiming for (since it was the first time I'd driven into town); paid for the parking only to discover that the meter had "no change given" in extremely small letter (so paid £4 parking).
The only marginal plus at that point, was the person I had to see saw me early, and actually came across as something resembling a human (almost an affacble human), as opposed to a Little Hitler like the previous one. (Also, apparently, he was going to be the new guy to see from now on, since the last woman "wasn't going to be in for a while". Uh-huh. I wonder why that might be...) This meant I at least got back before the rush-hour traffic hit, and at least the carpet had arrived once I'd got back and was fitted.
So, I have literally just re-set up the PC, so I haven't had time to check on the ten-odd pages of pony yet (that'll come later!) Another hour or so, and my sister will be back from work, and we can do my presents1 in about the fifteen minutes before it's time for me to go out to roleplaying.
Rather a good job, one feels, we elected to hold my birthday tea with the extended family on Wednesday...
I dread to think how badly the monster are going to do tonight, especially as the PCs are all really sore about the struggle the ten CR 8 Illithids gave their six level 14 arses last week....!
1Assuming I have any, of course; we have always been raised not to expect presents, so as not be properly grateful for those we do get (i.e. not get a sense of entitlement about it.) However, this is statistically unlikely, as we've never not had any, but with the day I've had...!

Quoted in the hopes it isn't lost forever...
I've been an animation junkie pretty much my entire life. My mom assures me that at eighteen months I knew when Mickey Mouse came on and would be bouncing in front of the TV in anticipation.
The picture export in Pony Creator works fine for me. Are you using the final version, or the beta?
I like the current version with the upstanding mane a little better than the laid-back version.
