With respect, Phantasm, I believe it is necessary. Remember that the search function does not work on this forum, and as such any comment by the giant pertaining the story should be linked here. In my opinion.

ETA: To my mind, the only thing "obvious" is that there's nothing so obvious that people won't argue about it, such as Belkar's alignment. People didn't stop arguing about it until Belkar SAID in strip he was chaotic evil.

    Respectfully,

Here's another one: Nergal is not against undeath (and Malack doesn't like the undead being used as cannon fodder, but I think that's obvious now ).

A comment on what the Giant thinks of this thread.

(Yeah, it probably is not worth adding, but if Rich said something similar of my work in the MitD thread, I'd go giddy and at the very least add the quote to my signature).

Not sure if that one is necessary, given that Durkon explicitly says as much in #872. "And even if I ignored tha' (Malack being a vampire) ye still cannae be allowed to seize this place!" But I'm open to persuasion.

Your vote has a lot of weight. According to the thread rules, whenever the inclusion of a quote is questioned it is up to the community to decide.

One of the principles of the Index is not to include quotes that might create clutter. Thus, we don't just include any and every quote from the Giant. If something is clear enough from the strip, in my opinion, the quote doesn't need to be included. However, I am only the curator of the thread, not its lord and master, and my opinion can be overruled by majority consensus.

I'd vote no, too. The experience of reading through the comics one after another is quite different than getting a page every week or two. Anybody just reading the comic is going to remember Durkon's denial that Malack could be working with the LG. Rich had to remind us because it's been something like two months.

I took his post to refer to the BETRAYAL--in the previous comic Durkon expresses anger that Malack lied to him, so I think this is a continuation of that.

Here's another thing to take into account, guys, as you vote on this... will this be a long-term issue of confusion for people? Just because people were confused a few hours after the posting of the comic doesn't mean this will be a running issue in the future. Heck, the next comic may even clarify it further.

I highly doubt that. Removal requires someone to suggest removal later (in reality most will have forgotten it is even in there). Then it requires a community vote and consensus again. I'd prefer removal to be a rare thing for those reasons. It is much easier to vet potential entries before they get in than to do so after the fact.

I can see some benefit to archiving it, but I find it wholely unnecessary. It could be used sometime in the future when people decide "what if Durkon did ... With Malack" speculations as support for his actions (a Giant post always lends credence) but it is already found in comic (in Durkon rejected Malack working with Nale as a possibility), so this Giant quote hardly has exclusivity in what it is saying. I'd vote no on archiving it.

Unfortunately, that is a reason to include it. This thread is an index of Rich comments that someone, down the line, may need to refer to. Now, I take that to mean that "mod" comments (such as "play nice, no flame wars in my forum") need not be included, but any comment that may need to be linked to for forum members easily confused, must be.

I thought it was rather obvious that Malack was a vampire myself, but I must have seen the link to the Giant's confirmation of the fact a dozen times. Yes, it was confirmed the very next strip, but still people argued that maybe Durkon is jumping to conclusions. Heck, I know from my own experience in the MitD thread that just because something was spelled out, it doesn't mean everyone caught it.

So, for better or for worse, I vote include it. Because you never know when we are going to need to use it, and if it is not here, it will be lost.

So far, as I count it, the vote is tied 5 / 5.

EDIT: To clarify, there were some comments that didn't specify yay or nay, so I didn't count those... only the ones in which the vote was clear and obvious.

I vote for including it, since the opinion on the other side (that Durkon's only against Malack due to vitalism) is pretty widespread and these forums don't tend to let things go very quickly.
