Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Very well. You're the boss.
Question: Does this mean this thread will be exempted from the usual rules against thread necromancy, in the event you don't make additional comments for six weeks? I can well see that happening if you become busy. You're under no obligation to post anything at all, ever, save the comic itself.
Stickying the thread would also help, but I believe it's already been decided not to do that.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
I'm very curious how this project is perceived. Interesting? Mildly creepy? Jolly good effort? Oh-no-now-I-have-to-watch-every-single-thing-I-say-now?

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
The only thing would be the mods locking the thread; at that point, you can't edit or quote any of the posts, which means you loose all the link meat-data (happened to me in MitD thread 3). But yes, lack of updates for six weeks would not automatically lock the thread. Not that I expect it to happen to this thread.
[Not-a-mod]Probably not. But all Phantasm needs to do is PM a mod if the thread falls into a necromancy-worthy lull. That's what I was told to do if something like that happened to the MitD thread. The mods then would bump it themselves.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
If it does get locked due to thread necromancy, Phantasm could just ask a mod to send him the BBCode...
that's what happens in the homebrew section when that occurs.
Anyways, I believeWe don't need to keep the Index bumped constantly
Sorry, but somebody had to do it.

I don't now if we need this quote (and it will some day be obsolete anyway), but maybe we should ad it (I just needed to search for it for another thread)?

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
A game is a fictional construct created for the sake of the players, not the other way around. If you have a question "How do I keep X from happening at my table," and you feel that the out-of-game answer "Talk the the other people at your table" won't help, then the in-game answers "Remove mechanics A, B, and/or C, impose mechanics L, M, and/or N" will not help either.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Wow... lots of quotes. Let's discuss.
Don't include. Rich explicitly said he would post when the cameo occured, so this post adds nothing to the status quo.
Consider including. It could come up again.
Include. No question.
Don't include. This is one of those issues that comes up when the comic first comes out and never surfaces again.
Don't include. Why would -anyone- want to discuss that EVER?
Include.
And one of my own!
GIF format is used to due technical limitations present when the comic launched.
I am leaning towards not including this because, again, it has little to nothing to do with the strip or characters and is more just trivia, which isn't the purpose of the Index.
The giant re-interating the difficulties with the murkiness inherent to the alignment system.
I'd say include this one... it does contain some caveats about what Rich's intentions are when he declares a character to be X alignment.Last edited by FujinAkari; 2013-07-23 at 05:21 AM.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
This is a difficult one. On the one hand, the quote isn't directly about the OotS story (though we do have an art category in the first post). On the other hand, the question has come up before, probably will come up again and in the thread in which it was posted there were a couple people that sort of remembered the giant saying something about technical difficulties once. Which to me sounds like exactly like the kind of situation this thread was designed to prevent.
I'd say include it in the Art category.
Does it? I can't recall the last time this was seriously discussed, and I'd wager the kind of people that want to discuss this aren't the kind of people that will be convinced by a quote from Rich (I'm not counting a single loose comment as a discussion).
Edit: And apparently there is a complete discussion going on about this in the main thread. I'm still not sure if it is worth including, but consider the above comment withdrawn.Last edited by Silver Swift; 2013-07-23 at 06:56 AM.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
I'm not sure these are really necessary for the index.
Include.
I think we should include this one, since it was the result of an honest mistake. A lot of time passed between the two strips.
Include.
Don't include.
Brian P.'s comment highlights why this is a good candidate for inclusion: the Nobles deciding to keep their retainers out of the battle didn't make that much of an impact on the battle.
Include both.
EDIT: Don't include.
Include.
Include both!
Meh. Not really important. Don't include.
I reluctantly vote that this comment needs to be included in the Index. It is unfortunate that Rich needed to explicitly state that and unfortunate that the Index needs to contain it, but this is a serious topic that should not be treated lightly. The fact that people keep bringing this up in the Main Comment threads or in new threads is revolting to me, so I vote to include.Last edited by Sir_Leorik; 2013-07-23 at 10:57 AM.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
The role of the Nale's wand and the timing of Xykon's arrival at Girard's gate.
Even though they are quite minor issues, I think they are worth posting, specially the first part, as they show how some small details may serve different story purposes.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
I would actually ask that this one NOT be recorded. I am specifically responding to that one person and his extremely relentless criticism. I don't want it to be quoted and re-quoted as "The Giant says you should stop reading if you don't like it!" Because I would not say that in that language to anyone who hadn't repeatedly shown that they are incapable of enjoying the comic for what it is. It should not be extrapolated to mean any "you" that might be reading it.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Yeah, no need for scrubbing. The point is that the post's context is critical, and that context is adequately included both in the original thread and here with the link immediately followed by The Giant's explanation. It's just that putting it in the big compilation in the first post would risk losing that context and would serve no good purpose; it's not the kind of post people would likely want to reference.
