In addition: he also does not listen to prayers and is "unknown" to most of us but a very few people. So I think it fits very well.

Re: The Giant "Word of God" Index
I agree is that that the Giant is far above any OotS deity, but this whole "not being interested in his followers" does not really fit for the Giant, who actually asks us about what we liked in his latest book and takes time to clearify things readers of his comics (or players of his games) are unsure about.

Re: The Giant Online Author's Commentary Index
Compare that to Ao in the Forgotten Realms. He kicked out all the gods when stuff did not work as it should. So CVR21+ can care about stuff.
Also, it fits much, much, better than the previously used (and accepted!) "Word of God", so I fail to see the problem you have here with one detail.
Also note the important fact it's a joke of some sort and as thus not serious. Better reserve your nitpicking for important things, as if... OotS is a Low/Med/High Level World or what alignment or level this or that character is or so...

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
The other title was a bit long and unwieldy, I've decided to call it the "Index of the Giant's Comments" or IGC for short. You of course may call it whatever you wish. I'll keep stuff like "Shots from the Canon" in mind for if this thread ever grows to a part II.
I'm not sure I care for "Word of Giant" as much... feels like there should be a "the" in there to me.
Added. I'm assuming the relevant part was Tarquin's alignment?
I'm grateful for the quote suggestions, but it would additionally help if you guys mentioned what you see as important in each quote, especially the longer ones. My first read through of this one I didn't catch the Tarquin alignment thing and so almost didn't include it on the list.Last edited by ThePhantasm; 2011-10-27 at 05:15 PM.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Ah, ok then; what I saw as important in that one was actually the topic of "Morally Justified" threads. The Tarquin thing was just a specific example of a thread that strayed into this catagory, and was locked.
Plus, the Giant specifically posted on it after the thread had been locked, so I figured that makes it even more significant.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
What the Giant Learned in Art School
When I first read this post (which was a followup to the moon/physics links mentioned earlier), I really liked his comments about the artistic style and a brief synopsis of what has helped him make his living off this.
I also like the comeback at the end.
Finally, am I the only one who would think that many of the things posted (about the characters) by the Giant would make good commentary? I mean, I would have loved to read the Giant's take on the fight between Miko and the Order as commentary in NCftPB.Last edited by ChrisFortyTwo; 2011-10-28 at 08:10 PM.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
What we might consider is to adding some stuff from here:
http://www.giantitp.com/Gaming.html
As some kind of Appendix or "Supplementary Material when it comes to Understanding how Rich creates Stuff". Most of the sections are either too general or too specific but I bet we can use this or that quote from there as well.
That might come in handy if it's about specific debates or so (e.g. http://www.giantitp.com/articles/Xbs...9g3HZBAGE.html - about alignment or how the general "rules" translante into emotional character).
It surely should not go into the "Word of Whatever" section but I also think it's too relevant to get blatantly ignored.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
I believe this thread is just for posts made by the Giant which aren't exactly easily accessible. If it can be found as easily as clicking that button to the side, then it doesn't really need to be repeated here.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
That's right. This is mainly for posts related to the comic that might be difficult to find later in a search.
I'm also still debating whether to include more general forum related posts, like "don't make 'is it morally justified?' threads" and "don't vote for OOTS on Top Webcomics." I'm leaning against not including those posts as they aren't really directly comic-related. The reason I included the one on spoiler-tags is because the Giant says in that post that he doesn't alter the plot based on forumgoer comments.
I see there are a couple new valid entries that have been suggested though, so I'll try to get to those either tonight or tomorrow."And yet, will we ever come to an end of discussion and talk if we think we must always reply to replies? For replies come from those who either cannot understand what is said to them, or are so stubborn and contentious that they refuse to give in even if they do understand." - St. Augustine

Just updated it with three entries (map of western continent, typo in 597, not everything has a backstory).

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Just for the record Tvtropes didn't invent the term "hanging a Lampshade". In one of the early Simpsons commentaries a writer mentions its an old writers term. The commentary was recorded before Tvtropes became well known.
Sorry, I know this isn't strictly on topic.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Development of Dorukan, the Gates, and the Order of the Scribble (the latest strip at that point is #196)
Durkon's age
Malack was going to be named Malachi
Tarquin is named after the king of Rome, not Governor/Grand Moff Tarkin
And I found this one interesting, but yeah...

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
I'm a big fan of this thread. Thank you for the work, Phantasm, it's a major contribution to OOTSlore.
But the value is kinda limited if it's just another thread that will, in a few weeks' time, drop off the message board.
Is there any chance of getting it stickied? Or failing that, of Phantasm hosting the links somewhere external, such as a private blog?"None of us likes to be hated, none of us likes to be shunned. A natural result of these conditions is, that we consciously or unconsciously pay more attention to tuning our opinions to our neighbor’s pitch and preserving his approval than we do to examining the opinions searchingly and seeing to it that they are right and sound." - Mark Twain
