    Default Diplomacy: Realpolitik

    Diplomacy: Realpolitik

    Winter 1900

    Murska - England
    The Wamp - France
    Splynn - Germany
    Niezck - Italy
    The Grimmace - Austria
    Vexen - Russia
    4is111 - Turkey

Our plethora of alternates include Niezck, Chambers, Inanisvoid, and Grue Bait.

First of all, welcome! I'd appreciate it if everyone could check in on the thread within 36 hours so I know all are present and accounted for. After that, we can begin. If you wish to adopt a persona for negotiations, now would be the time to do it.

All standard rules of Diplomacy apply- and I'll accept any format of orders as long as three things are clear: the providence the unit is in, the action taken, and the ending providence.

If you wish for some clarifications, please let me know.

In addition, please include 'Realpolitik' or 'RP' in the subject line of any mail you send me for this game. I'm involved in two others and this will help me keep organized.

Finally, one last tip. You don't start controlling any SCs. That means that if, at the end of Fall 1901, each unit must capture an SC or you will be forced to disband.

Spring orders due date will be posted after everyone checks in. Good luck and happy stabbing!

I prefer PMs as a method of communication. Including RP in the subject line would be ideal.

Quite a few people seem to be trying out different methods for playing this game. The more I look at the map and the more I think about possible ways that this is going to shake out, the more excited I get.

Not necessarily for me, but just in general. This is looking like it will be a great game. This is the first time I've ever even seen this particular variant. But so far I'm really liking it.

The Italian president was unhappy. First his advisors had managed to talk him into that damn foolish vacation in Russia. "See St Petersburg!" they said, "It's got canals and stuff! It'll be just like Venice!". Hmph.
Well, so far there was a whole lot of snacks and a zillion pushy tourists triyng to get in. So, ok, just like Venice in that, but that wasn't the point.
    Stupid bloody cold.

Sighing, he went to the window of the commandeered Winter Palace. It was a nice building, he had to admit... And they had nearly finished the 1:10 scale model of the Collosseum outside.
Still. He went back to his maps, and continued to mutter. Apparently one of their generals had got most of the way back, but then had been cut off. Maybe if he... Yes, that would work. He fiddled with the map briefly, and went to sleep.
If one looked at the map closely, they would have seen it contained a detailed and foolproof plan by which the lone Italian army could eliminate all opposition and annex the entirety of Italy, and then conquer the rest of Europe inside of four working days.
It was a shame, then, that at about six AM that morning, before the president rose and gave out the orders to his generals, he rolled over in his sleep and fell on the map, knocking the carefully placed pieces out of alignment.
Naturally, when he woke up, he had no clue what the plan had been. It had been awesome, though.
    Definitely.
    Sighing, he began again.

I know that usually it's pretty intuitive. Especially with centers getting captured so quickly.

But Russia and neutral SCs are too similar in color. I don't know if anything can be done... but if it can, can we do it?

    edited for clarity... I hope

I'm reasonably sure I can say with confidence that nothing can be done. But there may be some tricks with this program that I don't know.

There is no way to do it with Jdip, Splynn. It's not normally an issue as everyone knows where Russia starts, and what it's normal spheres of influence are. And by the time Russia breaks out (or doesn't) in the midgame, there are no neutral SCs remaining to compare it to.

That's fine. And like I said; it's usually super intuitive and obvious. But with this variant, it's a bit more difficult to tell just by looking at the map.

Not a huge issue, though. It's easy enough to keep track of; was just wondering.
