Kate follows, looking around as they go. Is this a safe place? Are there other normal people here? Is she the least dangerous person in the building?

That wouldn't be new, but she wonders about it.

I'm just a street thief from the Dog City, Karyana. The most normal place ever. Sure, we had our stories about heroes and monsters, but... things here are just so different. Like, for example, I never thought I would ever talk to someone who came back from the dead. It's just too weird.

A grey skinned woman, with four arms, and short brown hair, waves to them as they enter.

A semi-canine creature, covered in dark red quills, with a human mouth in each shoulder, and a scorpion-like tail, comes up a set of stairs to their right.

Kate looks at the things as she walks past. What is she into now? Why do these crazy things happen to her?

Okay, she could have avoided this one. She could have just said politely that she had thought on it and did not feel something and some other excuse. But, no.

She walked into this one. Literally. No one to blame except herself.

Kate takes a minute to seriously doubt her sanity. She says she wants a normal life... but she walks into things. Like she did in the Masquerade...

Kate thinks, for a moment, "What is wrong with me?"

I'm not sure yet, but it probably involves getting hilariously drunk. That's not a good sign. Where's Ashley? That's not a good sign either.

Karyana steps into the elevator, and starts shifting back to human, to provide more space.

If Kate follows, she'll set the elevator to go up around fifty floors.

How big is this hotel? Does it even HAVE fifty floors?

It has somewhere around fifty-one* in the normal space, and then more extended into various Shadows.

If Kate doesn't have anything to say, the doors will, after a fairly long ride, open onto a jumble of computers, ranging in tech level from steampunk to far future. Also, massive bins of parts for all of them - probably enough to build at least three times the amount of computers currently there.

*Probably, anyway. I'm trying not to pin it down too much.

Kate will step out of the elevator... and looks around.

She's not sure what to make of this.

"So... what is all this, then?"

Kate looks around for other people. Is there anyone currently working on the computers?

There is no-one else here, at the moment. They're going to let Kate choose her own team, unless she says otherwise.

Kate looks around. Okay. She can work with this. She even brought those cross-technology manuals with her.

"Alright. Um, before I started I wanted to go over the legal paperwork and all that. I mean, it should only take a minute."

She also wants to know just how legitimate this whole operation is. She does not say that out loud, but it is her main concern.

Basically, it says that Kate will be payed twice what she asked for at the masquerade, and her safety will be assured, in exchange for her interfacing the computer systems, and requires her not to provide details of the defenes without permission.
