Haven't played Skyrim or any of the other Elder Scrolls games, and I'm not likely to. 1st person melee isn't an issue for me (I love demoknight in tf2 and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty in Fallout 3), it's just a combination of lack of money and lack of interest.

I have, however, been tempted to pick up Left 4 Dead 2 several times in the past few weeks... Can anypony tell me whether that's a good or bad idea?

Having only played both L4D 1 and 2 sparingly, it seemed to me like it was more of the same, probably some small tweaks that I didn't notice. So if you enjoyed the first one, I think you would probably enjoy the 2nd one.

If you played L4D1, it is the same thing but even better. It also has all the L4D1 maps as well. Or at least most of them. With bots it is pretty fun, but it was really meant to be played with friends, and Versus mode is awesome.

Zecora falling into magical negro trope? so much remedies. In the back of my mind I see a story where Nurse Redheart rails against the non-scientifically verified herbal remedy of the zebra medicine as more and more ponies seek remedies from Zecora, leaving pony clinics underfounded, and equestrian medical practitioners from getting ponies to come in for serious ailments. It ends of course with cooperation as Nurse Redheart finds some merits to Zebra remedies for certain situations, while Zecora encorages ponies with serious medical problems to seek Equine medical practices.

Speaking fancy Applebloom had me in stitches. Same with hazmat suit ponies. it seems ponyville's crises quarantine emergency procedure is quite through. Another possible story?

Alliterations! now I have to check to see if AKR does more alliterations than other pony writers, but I do love the alliterations in this show.

    "perplexing pony plagues"
"puzzling pony plague afflicted a population of ponies back in the paleopony period!"

also.... paleopony period.... would that be BC? (Before Celestia) therefor during Discord rule? or AD (After Discord) or are we talking about so early in pony history that it is before Discord? (BD?) how would any record survive that long period of time, or for that matter, that they would have any sort of record keeping system at such early old-pony age.

lack of songs. by eps 6 of season 1 we have had 3 minor pinkie songs(not gonna count junior speedster chant, not a song imo), season 2 so far, zero.

magical Negroe is a trope? Must be, since I immediately knew what you meant.
Played straight and subverted; not only has Zecora never been defined as anything but a pony herbalist, but she's actually not using her native Zebra magic; all of her "spell" lore is in the book Twilight dismissed as childish. Zecora moved to Equestria to use Equestrian herbs for Equestrian alchemy and herbalism. She's not practicing her native arts at all. Or if she is, she moved to a country where they have a more scientific approach. It would be like me mooing to japan to study Shiatsu.

    Paleopony age? Couldn't tell you.

L4D2 is crazy fun if you like that sort of thing. The changes from the first make it a much more fun, engaging and dynamic experience. It is everything a sequel should be. If anything, I suggest you get L4D1 first, so you don't play the better game first and develop a distaste for the second.

Both games have a curve, though. I still can't get through hard; taking realistic amounts of damage from a 40 zombie swarm means you don't last long.

But the sequel difference is like the difference from Mario 1 and Mario 3; same gameplay, but the sequel is fuller, more robust, even though the dirt is a solid game.

Totally know what you mean. Problem is, I remember back on toonami, one of the "selling points" of morrowind was that to travel edge to edge takes you, literally, hours. On horseback. Because that's hoe distance works. In a game where verisimilitude is a selling point, you can't say it's not what you'd want. It is very simulationist though.

    It all depends on habits.

I just bought a book ($15) a game expansion ($8) and a bokken for Braz so we can exercise together ($10). I am literally set for about 3 months. All my purchases will last and give me weeks of enjoyment each.

If you're gonna buy the game, breeze through it in a marathon, shelve it and dust it off only every now and again, save yourself the trouble. L4D2 is a fun shooter, but there's better out there. Stick win what you've got, and keep the cash mate. Everypony could use a few more bits, aye?

Thanqol has a thread somewhere, which had a conversion of Midnight to the World of Darkness rules (specifically, Mage). He said something along the lines of "I gave her points in driving because a pony driving is a hilarious mental image."

Search for the OOC thread if you're up to it. It's hilarious, though there's a chance after reading you'll ne'er want to look us in the eyes again for fear.

If by "small tweaks" you mean it tore apart tactics that allowed the survivors to hold out almost indefinitely in any area barring a Tank and made it so you aren't stuck playing a goddamn Hunter half the time as infected then sure.

(Though somewhat less obviously Left 4 Dead 2 also loses some of the great tension that Left 4 Dead 1 had prior to horde attacks. Left 4 Dead 1 maps were more gritty-awesome as well.)

I have just watched the first two episodes. It's not normal that you defeat a goddess by the second episode.

And now for some silly. Just wanted to share what happens when I'm in an RP, need to think up a song for an exiled Canterlot composer, and realise I can't compose to save my life. How do I do it? By stealing the heck out of an existing song of course!

Normal? Don't expect "normal" when it comes to this show.

So...guess who's party ran slap into seven Spirit-Bound Liches (well technically six Skeleton Warriors and a Lich, since the former were Swordsages.)

    That learnt 'em, it did.

They are sort of winning, as we closed for the night, but they were looking suitably panicked as the fight progressed. It helped - for once - my dice rolls have been superlatively good! (I got FOUR HITS off of Avalanch of Blades1. Four. And not on a low AC target, either (I rolled a 20 on the last one...)

The Paladin actually went down, har har. In fact if the wizards hadn't made the Lich Cleric use some of his time dispelling Black Tentacles, they'd have been in real trouble, since his next action would have been to go "Inflict Critical Wounds on everyone!" That'd ruin their day (since we have scaled Cure and Inflict to actually worthwhile levels of damage.)

I've been looking forward to this fight (and the next one) for this entire module. They're probably the hardest fights they'll have.

    Fun.

1 (which allows you as many attacks as you like, so long as you keep hitting, but each successive one is at -4).
