If he accepts loss so easily, why did he run? Would have been better to not run or panic, thereby denying the demons food.

Doesn't mean he doesn't feel FEAR, per se. Once something's happened, eh just accepts it, doesn't mean he really kinda doesn't want to die.

After 600 years, you'd think that he could come to terms with the idea that there's no way for him to get away on his own, and that he will keep coming back anyway.

What I figured was that the demons would torture him even more horribly if he didn't run. They kill him fairly quickly, and 'only' every few minutes, normally, but only because he gives them sustenance; if he didn't give him sustenance, they'd peel him apart for eternity, without killing him, until he gave in.

Something along that general concept, anyway.

The transparency is really difficult, because on one hand it seems like he has a huge dangerous mouth. On the other hand, when you actually look at his mouth, it's small and tiny, almost timid. And it hurts my eyes to look at it.

*shrug* just because he's able to accept it and it doesn't cause him any sort of mental or emotional damage doesn't mean he likes it or wants it to happen.

Maybe, but I look at it more like, "My people did their best to wipe out rats. they are terrible pests that eat our food, spread disease, and nibble on our babies if we leave them unguarded. I dont know why you want one for a pet. I was thinking in both directions. Dies' arm already acted indipendently, and if "it" believes the orc can represent a problem...

You mean antepenultimate. Ultimate is "meh, oh well", penultimate is "they were wiped out 200 years ago", and antepenultimate is the long block of text of which the only thing I kept before my eyes glazed over was that these orks don't mind loss.

So, of course, I went there:

Could happen, but I don't think anything serious would result. I doubt Thunt introduced that orc just to have him killed two or three pages later. It might lead to Dies getting rid of the arm; but it'd be a significant power-down, which goes against the narrative so far and their D&Dish inspiration.

That's not very logical. Let's say you were being tortured and were then presented with an opportunity to get away from your torturers, however unlikely it may be. You will be tortured if you get re-captured, but they will also torture you if you stay.

Why wouldn't you run? There's nothing lost in the attempt. If anything, it would be out of character for him not to try, as that would mean the orc gave into despair.

This orc did reminded me of some player characters, as far as behavior and psychology is concerned. All it's missing is calling dibs on a dead friend's loot.

So I've been looking back through old pages and I notice that the head demon referred to itself as the Guardian of the Orb of Bloodlight. I think we're at the end of this dungeon crawl.

There's actually a fascinating psychological concept related to this. It's called [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learned_helplessness]learned helplessness[\url]. So, yes, after 600 years I would very well expect him to stop trying to get away. Unless, of course, his memory was being chronically modified in order to avoid despair.
