    Default [Nexus] Riverside VII

    Thanks to Darklord Bright.

Riverside, a small, modern city outside the reach of Remnant control. The city has always been known by one defining factor, it's status as a hive of scum and villainy. A number of factions vie for footholds in the city, though they are largely peaceful at the moment. No doubt some would jump at the opportunity to expand their influence. Being the hive and scum and villainy that it is, the police are corrupt, the streets can be dangerous, and shady deals and dark alleys are plenty. Welcome to Riverside.

    Current Events:
    • A flying castle thing is hovering ominously over the center of the city.
    • The weather is consistently cloudy and dismal.
    • A significant chunk of the southernmost part of the city is undergoing... changes. Of the reality warping variety.
    Northside:
    Spoiler
    Show
Northside, the richer part of Riverside. If you have money then you can get just about anything in Northside. That is if you know the right people. There is something odd about this part of Riverside though. Hardly a beggar or street urchin to be seen. In fact for a place of scum and villainy this place is too clean. Northside is the one that wears the best mask in Riverside. The best at covering up deaths and drug deals. The best at making everyone think that there is nothing wrong because everybody pays their protectors and rulers of Northside with what they ask for. This is Northside. A rich mask that hides the dirty city for what it is.

    Eastside:
    Spoiler
    Show
    Coming Soon

    Westside:
    Spoiler
    Show
Westside, where vampires walk openly on the street. Mostly because said vampires govern this part of the city. The city has been cloaked in a field of eternal night allowing the vampires to walk freely. Furthermore, each mortal citizen is required to donate blood to sustain the vampires. In exchange, the streets are kept clean, for the most part. Of course, the cover of darkness does attract criminals as well as less beneficent creatures of the night.

    Factions:
    Spoiler
    Show
    • The Followers of Scaal: Northside
      Spoiler
      Show
The followers of Scaal are spoken of in hushed tones. When a black robed figure goes by people stop talking and give him the space he needs. These are the followers of Scaal. Not much is known about them besides they possess great magic, they protect this part of the city and its inhabitants for the right price, and rumors have it that Scaal is some sort of god or demon perhaps.

      Played by ApeofLight.
    • Tenebras: Westside
      Spoiler
      Show
The vampires of Riverside came to the Nexus from the city of Gul-Thadar, a city where vampires and humans live in harmony. They took up the role of governing Westside after the city's leadership collapsed. Humans and vampires alike fill their ranks. They aren't above unsavory methods or shady deals, but they keep a good public face.

((All vampire NPCs associated with Tenebras should be assumed to be controlled by Gulaghar unless otherwise stated.))

      Played by Gulaghar.
    • The River Court: Eastside
      Spoiler
      Show
Founded and led by Genesis, the Queen of Rings, the River Court is dedicated to the improvement of their city, by means of the strange powers their fair folk Queen provides. It extends its blessings to all, but maintains a somewhat more selective inner circle of the Queen's favorites, each of whom has their own royal title.

      Played by Vael.
    • The Sacred Order of Cunningham: Citywide
      Spoiler
      Show
Purpose: Religious order who runs an orphanage in West Riverside and the Red Zone of Inside. Their Inside presence is much smaller than their presence in Riverside
Alignment: "Compassion! Courtesy! Let's be really **** polite to everyone!"

Locations: Riverside Cathedral of the Sacred Order of Cunningham (Westside)
Sacred Order of Cunningham Westside Children's Home
Sacred Order of Cunningham Inside Children's Home
Inside Temple of the Sacred Order of Cunningham

The Sisters and Elders of the Sacred Order of Cunningham have a perspective based religion with a hodge-podge of beliefs pulled from science fiction and popular culture. They are not a celibate order, and in fact strongly promote marriage and sex (in that order) with the goal of having large families.

All of their abilities are based on their faith, which means their symbols, holy water, etc are completely mundane if there is no one of the Order there to believe in it. Their 'do bad stuff to evil people' or 'do good stuff to good people' powers are completely based on their perspective. It's possible they could 'Turn Undead' a living creature who they believed was undead or 'Smite Evil' a good person that they believed to be evil, and their healing magic will generally not harm anyone that they are trying to help*. They are unable to raise the dead.

Except for the orphans and their caretakers, the members of the Order do not live in one location. Families have their own homes, and go to the Cathedral for holy services or group events. You know, sort of like people treat their RL churches.
Because it is a subjective religion, vampires and other undead can enter holy grounds if the vampire in questions believes they can and believes their motives to be pure.

      (*within godmodding rules, of course)

      Played by happyturtle.

    Places Within:
    Spoiler
    Show
    Northside
    • Moth Park:
      Spoiler
      Show
About 100 acres, the moth park is approximately rectangular in shape, with a bandshell/performance stage at the north end, a soccer (football) field and softball diamond at the south and a forested area in the center.

It also holds two playgrounds (swing sets, slides, monkey bars) several fountains (most of which are nonfunctional) various statues and a network of walking paths.

Since the re-opening, Moth park is pretty popular with the local residents as well as those who come into the area to work or visit.
    • Police Station: ApeofLight and Gulaghar
      Spoiler
      Show
The police station is a large but simple brick building. All police activity is based out of this building. It's outfitted with interrogation rooms, a few offices, and other rooms that a police station would have.
    • Riverside Hospital:
      Spoiler
      Show
This hospital is the only one currently in Riverside. It was built after the old hospital burned down some years ago. As a result, it's of fairly modern design. It works just like a normal, modern hospital would with the exception of magic being used along normal medical procedures to achieve better results.
    • Sawyer's Inn:
      Spoiler
      Show
The inside of Sawyer's is beautiful, though humble. Whoever keeps the place, keeps it in fine condition.

The dark wooden floors are waxed and shiny. There are four wooden pillars that reach up to the ceiling. The four walls are painted in a brick red, with light grey accents.

Along the left wall there is a large hearth fire burning, with a dog and cat sleeping together. The dog raises it's head slightly to observe the newcomers, but doesn't rush to sniff them out.

Along the right wall is the customer service area, with a dining hall just past it. The smell of freshly baked bread and some kind of meat can be smelled eminating from beyond.

And then there is the back wall. There is a set of stairs leading up and another leading down. Both sets are made of the same wood as the pillars and floor.
    • Temple of Dalachrech: Earl of Purple
      Spoiler
      Show
This building closely resembles all the other semi-detached houses along this road. The temple takes up both halves of the house, however; although the building has been designed such that the halves don't match to maintain the illusion of seperate owners. It has a red tile roof and is constructed from red brick, although the left half has been painted white. There's a pair of garages and two front doors, both of which work.

The temple is a private location. Please PM Earl of Purple before visiting.

    Eastside
    • Fallow’s Furry & Feathered Friends: Earl of Purple
      Spoiler
      Show
The shop is lit up with bright lights and neon advertising. Around the store is a secure, electrified fence and there's four watch towers in the corners. The gate is near a large, secure-looking building within which are three ogre guards. Inside lie four warehouses, a large collection of aquariums and gigantic tanks, a squat and ugly toilet block and three seperate bunkers for customers to evacuate into should something more dangerous escape, such as a smilodon from the Mammal House, a wyvern from the Reptile House, a giant carnivorous slug from the Invertebrate House or something worse. Patrolling the wide, open spaces are the occasional group of six uniformed humans armed with net-guns. Slaves can be bought here if one asks the right questions.
    • Golden Flagon Tavern:
      Spoiler
      Show
The Golden Flagon Tavern was once the main hideout of the local mafia. It was destroyed, but recently it has been fully restored. It still tends to attract the unsavory sort, but the owner keeps things civil.

The tavern is very old fashioned. It's a stone building with polished, wooden supports. A fire always warms it's large hearth and the drinks always good. It makes for a comfortable atmosphere.
    • Light's Heart: Shadowcaller
      Spoiler
      Show
The citadel rises up like something taken from a sci-fi movie. The walls are golden colored, untainted by age and dirt. Like something that was just build just recently.
Five towers have been built into the wall, standing no less then 40 feet tall, looking like they have been cut out from the same stone.

Above the towers rises the citadel itself, completely square in form and made of the same golden stone it have numerous arrow slits carved out at the upper floors.

Leading around it's form is a wooden staircase going from the top of the citadel to the courtyard below. The only visible entrance is the massive gate made of obsidian colored wood which stands wide open, inviting anyone inside.
    • Wellspring Tower: Vael
      Spoiler
      Show
The Walls: Made of thick glass and capped with walkways of stone, the walls and their five, short, twisted square towers are arranged in a perfect pentagon. Each wall has its own gate, which leads to one of the blue paths in the courtyard.

Courtyard: The blue paths of the courtyard and the river form spiraling patterns that focus on the tower itself, and are edged with statues, fountains, and pools. From the courtyard, one can admire the strange design of the tower, a massive spire of twisting stone and glass that appears as a tree without leaves; further, one can listen to the tower's song, created by the flowing of water and air through the hollowed tubing on the tower.

Library: Rather than books the library stores a vast array of unusual objects, from art pieces to weapons to plants. Each of these objects has a history, and many of them were created by Genesis. The library is kept by Sigrun, the lorekeeper, and it can usually be found on the lower floors of the tower.

Armory: Usually positioned nearby the library, the armory is a relatively small but well guarded room in which most currently unusued weapons are stored and also kept ready for combat. Hilda the handler is in charge of the armory.

Throne Room: Near the top of the tower is the throne room, a circular room with five levels, at the top of which is the throne of Genesis. It is only used for the most formal events. Ragna the scribe can always be found at the right hand of the throne when it is being used.

Basement: Though easily seen from the lower floor of the tower, it is apparently inaccessible, the only opening to it cut off with magic and a curtain of water. Whatever is inside, it glows strangely.

    Westside
    • Club Pulse:
      Spoiler
      Show
The club is quite easily noticed by the huge neon sign outside, Pulse was easily recognized as Riversides largest nightclub. Beyond the line and the bouncer outside is a classic club layout with a large dance floor with loud music and flashing lights.

In a slightly more calm area of the club is the bar run by an one-eyed bartender called Ryo.

There are two stairs leading up to the upper floor where it's easier to talk and drink.

The atmosphere is pretty heavy as you walk inside with techno music playing very loud.
    • Evolution Industries: Darkcomet
      Spoiler
      Show
The Westside branch of EI. The main building is a fairly nondescript, tall (not a skyscraper or anything, but still with several floors) modern one, with a large Evolution Industries logo on it.
    • Exbourne Manor: Gulaghar
      Spoiler
      Show
Exbourne manor is rather old, though kept in excellent condition since it was restored when Tenebras moved in. The rooms are large and spacious, and most of the public areas have been painted in bright pastels and decorated with vases of flowers.

The ground floor largely consists of the lofty entrance hall, a comfortable living room, and the kitchen. Ramiro's office is also on the ground floor for easy access. The second and third floor have mostly bedrooms and attached washrooms. The basement serves as rooms for the servants primarily. In a separate part of the basement is a large vault as well as an Evolution Industries Class 2 MACE Unit which provides the building with electricity. Finally, the attic contains whatever it is that creates the darkness field within Westside.

The manor is surrounded by a courtyard. An iron fence surrounds it, and a number of trees provide privacy along the sides and behind the building. The courtyard is grassy and has a cobblestone trail leading to the front door. Behind the manor is a private garden. The courtyard's gate is almost always left open.
    • MagMart: Lord Magtok
      Spoiler
      Show
If the individual entering has any sort of familiarity with the other MagMart, back when it was its own building apart from Mallside, they'll probably notice that this Riverside one doesn't look anywhere near as glamorous as its predecessor. It's a modest purple brick building, the glass display windows aren't even properly bulletproof, and the smelly homeless people usually employed to wander around about the front of the store in a wacky MagMascot costume with an enormous cyborg head are mysteriously absent.

That said, you can still find just about everything here that you can at the Mallside store. Curtains to carpets, macaroni to monkeys on motorcycles, groceries to zombies garlic. The staff is always happy to help (or else), and if you aren't entirely satisfied with your shopping experience, you can pay a small fee to watch the MagMart employee of your choosing get fired out the MagMart complimentary employee morale cannon. Except in this store, the 'morale cannon' is really more of a morale bazooka, and while it's still fun to watch, it's nowhere near as charming.
    • The Cathedral of the Sacred Order of Cunningham: happyturtle

The Westside Cathedral is large enough to house people for emergency purposes, but in general, only the family of the pastor and the groundskeeper live there.

Sister Janice is the Pastor's wife, and a skilled hippiemancer.

    History: by Lex-kat
    Spoiler
    Show
Long, long ago, Riverside was a simple fishing village.

It was able to blossom into a city once trade begun, because of it's placement not only on the river, but between most of the other small villages within this area of the Nexus.

Of course, this means that the Merchants were able to take over the government of the city. But other than that, it remained quite peaceful.

Very few other cities attack Riverside, and it would remain neutral in conflicts. Though, due to the few that did try to attack it, the citizens of Riverside did develop a small military force. For protection purposes only, of course.

For years, Riverside grew in power, yet never exerted it over any of the other villages. That is, until a man named Johnny Duluth came to power.

At first, the people loved him. He was fair and just. And soon, he brought even more prosperity to Riverside.

Then a change. A small force of unknown marauders besieged the city. Mayor Johnny declared a state of emergency, reorganized the military, and with the help of some of his aides, transformed them into a offensive unit.

After a long 4 month battle, Riverside won a decisive victory. But they didn't stop there. Mayor Johnny declared that a nearby village was responsible for the attack.

He personally led the military and crushed the village with no resistance.

Some Merchants balked at this, and tried to warn the citizens of the dangers of allowing Mayor Johnny to take this power.

They were all silenced, one way or the other. Bought off, murdered, or their families kidnapped and held hostage.

By the time the residents realized what was happening, it was too late. They found themselves over run by the same marauders that they had "defeated" before.

Soon, the city was run by a Mafia-dictatorship, and Johnny Duluth was it's mayor.

What the citizens didn't know, was that Johnny Duluth was just a puppet. There was another man pulling his strings.

Ezekial Von Hookes, a prominent member of the Merchant class had employed Johnny for just this. He even arranged for his own daughter, Patricia, to be kidnapped, tortured, and finally returned to him a gibbering mess.

Mayor Johnny ruled Riverside for thirty years, before dying of a sudden heart attack at the age of 78.

A kinder, gentler man took his place, returning Riverside to a peaceful, defensive center of commerce it was before Johnny Duluth took over.

The citizens were happy. But deep within the dark corners, and under the city foundations, the Mafia still ruled. Ezekial passed his hidden empire to his son-in-law, Cameron.

Cameron and Patricia (yes that Patricia) had a son, Frederick Von Hookes. Cameron raised his son to be his successor. Slowly the citizens of Riverside became aware, yet intentionally ignorant, of the criminals that were truly in charge.

People would disappear, and the police did nothing. There were rumors of daughters from surrounding villages being kidnapped and sold to wealthy men, or held under the bar for the local prostitution ring.

By the time Frederick "retired", and Jonah took over, everyone in the city knew that the city was run by a mostly hidden group of men, maybe some women.

When Reinholdt came to town, and murdered Johan, and set the prostitutes free, business came to a screeching halt.

The Green Flagon Bar, where Johan ran his business out of, shut down for repairs. But has only just recently reopened.

There is rumors that Frederick has returned. ASnd people are afraid. Where Johan was cunning, Frederick was brutal.

    ++++++++++++++++++

The police are owned by the Mafia. Unless you wish to die, you turn a blind eye to any crime you see.

For the most part, the citizens are protected. Only those who try to reform or change the current system find themselves on the wrong end of the "law".

Otherwise, the victims are from the more rural villages surrounding Riverside.

The Mafia has dealings with people in other large cities, including the Empire run Inside. Though most of those are in deep hiding since the Empire took over.

More recently, SAINT, the Assassins guild has sprung up in the cities underworld. Since there has been no fighting between the guild and the Mafia, it is assumed that they have a peaceful agreement with each other.

Of course, in the most recent happenings, the Golden Flagon has been shot up recently when a human female and some blue girl came asking questions.

Soon after they disappeared, an earthquake struck the twon, felling many buildings. A strange man named Riv is reported to have been to blame. How that can be, the citizens do not know.

    They are currently rebuilding.

Then the three fanatics presumably make it to their destination, a motel donated to their church by a parishioner as penance so very long ago. It was meant to be converted into another chapel, but there were never the funds to deal with its many problems.

Now it serves another purpose, as a base of operations to gain a foothold into the city. The portable forge has been moved into a room here from the basement Kate was taken to, and it is to this room that the vampire shall be placed.

He's secured to a table, this one equipped with steel restraints on sturdy hinges. There are six in total, one for each of his limbs, one for his torso, and the last to go over his neck. They remove the crossbow bolt only when the other five are in place, wary of a vampire's supposed instant regeneration.

The table is wheeled under a skylight that this room had been chosen for, exposing the vampire to the sun. Hopefully this will prevent him from transmuting himself into a bat to get out of the restraints. As a final precaution, the door is hung with a large version of the broken shield holy symbol, this one hewn out of wood.

A tray table meant for medical instruments is wheeled out of the corner, sitting out of arms reach of the table.

Now, they get to wait for him to heal enough to be a worthwhile subject. If after an hour it doesn't look like he's healing while in the sun, he'll be moved out of it to see if that affects his progress. He'll be left nearby though, just in case.
    [Eastside - Ruined Motel]

It seems that they haven't been tracked down yet. Even after the several hours it takes for the vampire to regenerate. He won't heal under the light, so that delays the process. He first comes to when his spinal cord heals. It takes him a moment to figure out what's going on. Presumably they shove him under the light at that point. It takes a bit longer for his throat to heal.

"Where am I? What's going on?" The memory of what happened on the street is fresh in his mind, though not how he got here.

"And really? I didn't even know people resented it." She admits, looking even more awkward now, she was still quite confused about it. "...are your parents like that?" She remember Nadia speaking about it before but she couldn't remember it very clearly.

Nadia opens her mouth to speak... then closes it again. She looks down at her hands twisting at the sheets. She frowns and stops her nervous fiddling. "They don't even know. They always just assumed I was too preoccupied with work to worry about men."

Kate might be caught in a trap laying right near the table where her possessions seem to be at.
Wow. Durable rats. Rat traps are supposed to break their necks, but these are tough enough toWOAH!

Kate almost stepped on that trap... she carefully sets her foot down to the side, not touching it at all. Carefully, she looks through this new pile for her necessary items.

He is indeed moved back under the light after he is well enough to speak.

"You are under the watchful eyes of the Gods, sinner. Where you belong. I have questions, otherwise you would be properly dead long before you could be traced back to us. But before we get to the unpleasant part, I have things to try." The robed monk, no longer silent it seems, steps into the Enforcer's field of vision. There's a vial of clear liquid in his hands.

"For example, if I were to place this blessed liquid upon your chest, would the proximity bring you harm?" He attempts to slip the vial in between the metal strap and the vampire's chest, pressing it against his skin should the Enforcer leave enough slack for it to fit. It's a tight squeeze, and the vial threatens to crack if the vamp struggles too much.

"This is only the first of my many tests. Perhaps if you answer my questions faithfully I can spare you the results of the latter ones. What is your name, sinner? I always like to give my subjects something more personal than a serial number."

"You're insane." The vampire struggles uselessly against his bonds until the holy water comes out. He freezes then, and lets the monk put it in place. He seems agitated, but there's no pain yet. "Athos."

The robed monk marks down the name, "True. Now, tell me about yourself Athos. Your strengths, your weaknesses. Tell me what makes you squirm at night. Tell me of your leaders, their motivations, and any opinions you have of them." The monk picks up a blade, curved forward and razor sharp, running a honing stone over the edge idly as he speaks.

"And please don't get any ideas about holding your silence. Whatever loyalty you hold to your masters is, in this case, completely misguided. It has been hours since we dragged your fleshrotten body off the street, and there's been no sign of rescue. Beyond that, anything I think you've left out, I'll have to test, and that could get very tedious for us both."

The monk begins attempting to cut Athos' clothing away from his vital areas, removing strips of cloth from his major veins and arteries without touching the flesh beneath.

    "You may begin when ready."

She will find her phone and her keys among the items which all glitters in the light of her glowing hair.

Kate picks up her things and puts them in her pocket, but then notices the shifting on the bed.

    Cru-

Kate turns so that her hair is not shining on the thief. At least, as little as possible. She will then try to cross the floor quickly yet safely and quietly; an act that is complicated by the rat traps everywhere. The net result is Kate trying to back out of the room without triggering rat traps. Ideally, she makes it to the stairs, leaves, and the thief just goes back to sleep. She doesn't honestly expect this to happen.

Tor nods at Dana, hair and clothes as neat and clean as ever, and returns the smile. He is in a particularly good mood today. The child gestures toward the door he had just come in through.

Athos is by no means some hardened soldier or whatnot. He's just a man doing his job. So when threatened with torture, he caves.

Rather than typing out a big ol' hated info dump, he gets links directly put into his mind. =O

Vampires. He'll cover the strengths and weaknesses here.
Tenebras. He mentions Ramiro and his three lieutenants. That they're all equipped with what he is (or was as the case may be) wearing. He mentions Exbourne Manor is the base of operations and that they collect a fairly small amount of blood from the populace so they don't have to directly feed. He doesn't know much about motivations. As far as he knows they're just governing the city with a bit of a focus on making it less crime ridden. As for his opinions on the leaders, he thinks highly enough of them. Not particularly strongly, but he thinks Ramiro's been doing a good enough job.

Okay, so maybe a little info dumping.

    [Suncrest Manor]

"Yeah... Yeah, of course I'll tell them..." Nadia trails off, still not looking up. "It'll just be... hard. I mean, I'm not ashamed of you or anything. I just don't know if they'll understand."

    [Westside Children's Home]

"Oh, I hope everything's alright." Dana looks with some concern toward the door. Normally she'd be surprised at Elder Moss leaving a child alone, but considering the circumstances she figures it's alright. "Well, I'll have to find Sister Gertrude. You should go and stay with the other kids, alright?" Assuming Tor agrees, Dana will go in search of Sister Gertrude.

"Very good... having a cooperative conversationalist always manages to bring a smile to my face. Now I only need two more things from you, and then we can decide your fate." The monk will attempt to press the tip of the knife into the hollow of Athos' throat, drawing it lightly down his chest. If the vampire doesn't squirm away too much, it should leave a shallow cut leading down to the mouth of the vial.

"Tell me... what motivation might this Ramiro have for burning down a church Inside? Or if not him, can you think of any under his command who would do so without his blessing? My benefactors have gone to great lengths for this information, and all the strings of the web lead back to Westside."

"Once you have done that, you will confess to me your greatest crime. After that I shall judge whether you are worthy of leaving unharmed."

The knife remains poised over the vial, hovering in anticipation.

The vampire grits his teeth and bears the pain. It's not too bad for him really. "W- what?" He asks, completely taken by surprise. "Why would anyone want to do anything to a church in Inside? We don't have anything to do with Inside unless we want to go there for, like the mall or something." At least, in his experience.

The vampire shifts uncomfortably, or tries to before stopping himself before his bonds do. "My greatest crime? I, uh... Dammit I don't know. I- I cheated on my wife, okay. Just please don't hurt me." He strains himself to look toward the knife.

"You seem genuinely puzzled. Perhaps you are in fact telling the truth in this matter. Shame, I was so looking forward to having one of the sinful flesh to experiment on. No matter."

The monk removes the knife, setting it back down.

"And how many times did you cheat?" He walks over to the door, knocking on it lightly. The bandaged woman enters after a brief pause, a scowl crinkling the gauze around her face. Her distaste for the monk is evident, but she can put it aside for now.

She'll simply stand in the doorway, waiting for the vampire to answer.

The vampire relaxes visibly, though he's not out of the woods yet. "It was, uh, five times." He answers hesitantly. Not exactly something he wanted to admit, but he feels dishonesty wouldn't be the best plan.

"Heya there, Astrana." Somebody with a very peppy female voice appears behind Astrana and puts her hands over her eyes. Or tries to at least. Astrana will find that a very female body is pressed up against her as well. "Guess who?" The voice is entirely unfamiliar.

This sadly won't end ideally as even if Kate flawlessly manage to avoid all the traps, the thief already seem to have waken up and is openly staring at Kate. "Hey! That's mine!" She exclaims as she get's up from the bed, trying to block Kate's way out. "Give it back!"

    [Suncrest Manor]

"Okay." Is all Irena can say, not really sure what to think of Nadia's parents. "But that's much later right? I don't really know anything about that sort of things. I'm kind of new to relationships as a whole. I haven't even had a friend."

    [Northside - Moth Park]

Astrana have been aimlessly walking around the park, just trying to calm herself down, trying not to worry about things. This didn't really work out however. Alone with herself she found her imagination make things worse.

What if Valente is dead? What if he can't be cured? What if he's just some mindless slave now?

She had to keep reminding herself that she had magic and whatever enchantment she placed on him could be broken. Unless she sealed it with blood that is, or...

Her eyes are covered by someone and she quickly attempts to break free, suddenly realizing she don't have her staff with her as she turns around to face whoever is there. Ready to run away at the merest sign of threat.

"Then you shall be five times cursed. The next five times you consider laying with a woman, you shall be stricken low by a holy blight that will lay you down for a week, unable to fend for yourself. Furthermore, you will be unable to speak of what has befallen you here. This geas shall follow you to your final days, when the sun finally reclaims your body." The woman speaks, raising a bandaged hand towards the vampire.

The sunlight streaming in from above becomes intensely brilliant, piercing through Athos and quite possibly blinding him, yet doing no harm. When it fades, the geas is in place. He won't be able to say anything of what they look like, what they have done, or where they've taken him. He won't even be able to lead people to the motel or gesture to it on a map.

The monk, with a disappointed air about him, goes to wheel the table out the open door, moving quickly to try to prevent Athos from escaping during his brief time out of the sunlight. They're now in a small motel parking lot, away from any main roads.

The monk will quickly undo the straps, leaving Athos free, yet still in the sun. They aren't too far away from the perpetual darkness covering Westside.

Unless Athos wishes to try something, the monk will quickly walk back inside, bolting the door behind him.

Kate looks the theif in the eyes. She gives her best 'I'm not afraid of you' look and speaks.

"You stole it from me. You took it without asking. But how about this: I will give you this much," She holds up her hair, gesturing from where she holds it to where it ends. She's holding it where it would be about her normal length. That's... a lot of hair.

Would you believe this was planned? She had it in mind to offer her hair as a trade, thinking the thief might want more of it for whatever reason. She hopes she's right...

It's easy to break free from whoever this person is. Turning around reveals a woman... A very naked woman. =x She's even more voluptuous than Astrana and has dark bluish skin. She has four horns poking out from her inky black hair and her teeth and nails are rather pointy.

The demon grins at Astrana. "I got the info you wanted." She leans forward, peering intently at her. "Are you a demon too?"

    [Suncrest Manor]

Nadia is relieved to hear that Irena doesn't want to worry about that sort of thing any time soon either. She'd rather not worry about her parents right now. "Later, definitely." She smiles at her girlfriend. "And that's okay, because I'm your friend now."

    [Northside - Moth Park]

...and now she was talking to a naked demon. A naked Nabrius demon. Great. She so didn't need this.

The demon is likely looked upon by more people then just Astrana, especially men and lesbians which the nexus is filled with.

The tiefling ignores them for now however even if she looks a tad embarrassed. "No, just a part of me is. I'm a tiefling." It was easy to figure out where this was going though. "If your the one bound to me, you better conjure up some clothes and tell me what you know." She orders it, trying to act calm and collected even if she was neither.

The witch suddenly smiles, "I guess that's true." She says happily, getting up from the bed. "Want to help me trying to decide where to go for my change by the way? I heard of a few places but they are all outside of Riverside."

Kate needs to mess with how much the items are worth in the thief's eyes... if she thinks those items are worth more she may try to barter.

    "You have plenty of these,"
Kate says, gesturing at phones and keys. "I do not. I have plenty of this," She says, gesturing at her hair. "You do not. You lose this and this, and gain all of this."

She gestures at the relevant things as she mentions them. She maintains a straight face, but is honestly worried that the little thief know the usage of the items in question. Happily, the phone is not smart and does not have her home address programmed in. Kate always kind of wanted to get a smart phone, but she hasn't gotten around to it.

She's going to have to get clothes like a normal person. Some of Astrana's will probably fit closely enough.

    [Suncrest Manor]

"Yeah, sure. I'm up for going anywhere." Nadia says brightly, glad that the mood has lightened again. "What were these places?"

Hekta peers closely at Kate, her eyes shidting from her hair to her keys until she finally says, "Give me your belt AND all that hair and you can leave." She demands. "How did you get it all glow-y anyway?" She also wanted glow-y hair!

    [Northside - Moth Park]

"...right." And since I really don't want to repeat things again, Astrana is going to act suspicious and ask a few questions confirming nothing bad is going to happen to her if she takes the demons hand.

But if all is well, she will eventually take it. "Let's get this over with."

    [Suncrest Manor]

"There was a place in Inside called Which and a few other places. I think I'm going back to that library and read up on other wish granting beings. Finding a safer alternative then demons." There is a slight pause.

Kate looks at her. She thinks a bit. She doesn't want to shave her head... or give up her belt. Think, think, think...

She doesn't want to do this, but she doesn't see an alternative.

She picks up the items, and holds them tightly. The thief is definitely faster with her hands, but Kate is closer.

"Or, I can take them, and leave, and then tell the police where you are. Your choice, okay?"

She really, really doesn't want to do this... but she doesn't want to get pushed around by this little thief, either. If Kate was a bad girl, she would have just bashed the thief while she was asleep and be done with it. Or shot her with the mugger slugger... that uninteresting pouch at her belt contains a surprisingly powerful weapon... brr... Kate REALLY doesn't want to have to bring that up...

"...okay. Just the belt and you can go?" She suggests. "I just found those things! Not my fault!" She whines.

    [Northside - Moth Park]

Astrana however will let go of the demons hand as she considers all this. So now her nemesis had a name. There was a bunch of other names she didn't know of in there, but it did sound like she had weaknesses she easily could abuse.

She also needed to get this demon dressed, people were staring and it looked like two officers were heading their way. Great.

"Okay... I'm not with you, you hear that? I'm not sure how this soul binding works but I'm not getting into jail since you decided to get naked. Whoever you are." She tells the demon as the two officers come up to them, she might tell Astrana is extremely awkward and embarrassed at this point.

"M'am." The policeman starts, "I'm afraid you need to wear clothes around here or I have to charge you for indecent exposure." He says, trying not to ogle her too much while the other officer is trying to drive away the crowd a bit.

"You sneaked them out of my pocket."

    She sighs.

"I'm already offering you this much hair. How is my belt better than that?"

Kate knows that she has the stronger position. She's stayed adamant on one thing, while the thief has shown that she can be haggled with and pressured. Kate just needs to keep this up...

    Eastside- Church

The door leads into a small antechamber, which is packed full of bookshelves which themselves are almost breaking under the strain of carrying what must be almost a literal ton of books. Other than the collection of tomes and compendiums, the room is as sparsely furnished as the rest of the temple, a ratty old plaid-patterned armchair sitting in one corner and a wilting potted plant in the other.

Pulling a particularly well-worn volume of the shelf, the priest flips through the pages, reading off names under his breath. "Mardel, Marlin... Marsy. Yes, they ought to do. The Marsy family run an inn near the scrapyards, been here since before Riverside was really even a city." He turns to the girl, shoving the book back into place amidst the others. "You shouldn't have too much trouble finding work there, especially with the church's recommendation, but, ah... Well, the scrapyards are next to the dumps, so there's a slight issue with smell."
